SECOND BASE THROW DOWN

Hi There!! I've been a catcher since eighth grade--that's 7 years--and I've caught for many pitchers and with many different teams. Here's a drill for strengthening and quickening throw downs to second base.

The idea of a trash can is great--for more accuracy try an orange cone with a ball on top, try to knock the ball off without hitting the cone.

Here's another great one. Lay five to six balls in a semi-circle in front of a fully dressed catcher, from her stance have her retreive one ball and throw it down, using proper throwing techniques. Then return to her stance. Do this until she has thrown all the balls. Time her for fun. But make sure you emphasize accuracy.

(By the way make sure she's working with her short stops, not the coaches, it's practice for them too, and they learn to trust each other.)

You can also incorporate this with other positions and players.
