  NCAA Slap hitter question
This was posted on another site, thought I'd bring it here for more feedback...

NCAA rules; If a slap hitter is hit by a pitch with no attempt to swing, is it still declared a no pitch? I haven't done NCAA in awhile and knew this was the case a few years back but, could not find anything in the 2009 rule book. May have missed it. Thanks...

  Re: NCAA Slap hitter question
There is no rule specific to slap hitting; the NCAA rule 11-16.b(4) says the batter is not awarded first base if hit by a pitch not swung at while out of the batter's box (EFFECT: "No Pitch").

This is a good example how a rule that should be clear is made into something it isn't. Slap hitters still in the box get awarded a base; non-slappers that step out of the box aren't.

The primary point of the rule was that it cannot be determined at a point still in front of the batter's box (which starts 4' in front of the plate) if the pitch would have been a ball or a strike, that the batter out of the box kept it from being either, so it cannot be one or the other.

Okay ... after re-reading what you have said here, you have a "no pitch" which is what they came up with on the other site with limited discussion ... but since this rule is not specific to 'slap hitters' ... for the sake of argument ... A pitcher legally pitches a ball to a batter who is not slapping ... without removing the bat from her shoulder takes one giant step in front of home plate, out of the batters box and gets drilled ... you have 'no pitch'?

That is what the NCAA rule says, and means. Batter out of the batter's box that doesn't swing and gets hit by the pitch, it is a "no pitch". The only thing the batter gets is a bruise; the pitcher gets a mulligan.

Now you are assuming it wasn't a strike d:)

I have to believe somewhere along the way a player is just going to start stepping in front of pitches they don't like.

Had this question on another site. What is used to detertmine if the batter is in or out of the batter's box in order to make a ruling on the batter? One foot / two feet?
