About Us

The Falcons Program is a 7s/10s rugby program open to women's college and high school players who live in the Boston area during the summer months. Some rugby experience is preferred.

We practice on Weds nights at Malden Catholic High School from late May to early August, and compete in tournaments throughout New England each week. Practices are loose and fun, yet organized, with the second hour of practice consisting of a series of live, refereed, full contact 7s halves.

History

The Falcons Program was started in Summer '08 as a way to bring players together from different schools in order to learn more about the sport of rugby by playing alongside players with different experiences. The program was also designed to help players develop a network of friends and contacts on other teams as well as bridge the gap between college and senior club rugby.

In the first year a total of 25 players from 10 different schools participated. The team struggled early on as players were learning not only a brand new version of the game, but even each others names. As the season progressed, so did the results, and by the end of the season the team was firing on all cylinders and won the Cape Cod 7s tournament.

With the success of the program in Year 1, the program expanded in Year 2. There was a heavier emphasis on making the program a more diverse undergrad college team with a great deal of energy put towards recruiting. Two more coaches were brought on board and the program partnered with a local women's club for practice. More resources were also dedicated on fielding both a competitive side and a developmental side in each tournament. In all the program ended up with 44 players from 17 schools and fielded at least 2 sides in 7 of the 9 tournaments entered.

More exciting things are in store for Year 3, including a winter season and fielding a club side comprised of alumni from the program and anyone else that's interested in playing. Feel free to come check us out!
