Chain Gang
Three (3) people are needed for chain gang duties. If assigned to this position, you will move the markers that mark the down and the yardage for the team who is offense. You are on the opposing side of the field and the referees will be more than happy to assist you in moving, telling you where to go, etc. The only time you move off the sideline is when there is a need to measure for a first down (the referee will guide you where to go). The chain gang is an essential part of the football game. You report to the opposite side line and meet with the referees to get your position.
Monitor
Two monitors are needed for a game. One monitor stays on the Fairport sideline and and the other assists a person from the visiting team to make sure every child has 5 plays in a half. The monitor sheet has names with jersey numbers and 10 boxes to be checked. If a child has not gotten 5 plays in a half, it is up to the coach to have this information and get the child in for the required number of plays.
If you are scheduled for the opposing team, you will have that teams' monitor sheet, and someone from their organization will be assisting you to make sure each one of their players has the required number of plays. It is not a hard position, but it is required by the league and needs to be filled.
Concessions
Each of the three (3) shifts for concession stand need to be filled in order to maximize efficiency. If assigned to a grill position, you will be responsible for cooking hamburgers, hotdogs, italian sausage and any other grill item. There is a set up crew that is charged with getting the stand running prior to the first game (C Team). If you are assigned at the end of the day (B Team), your duties will require assistance with breakdown. Breakdown begins at the conclusion of halftime of the third game (B Team), so the process should be completed by the end of game day with minimal items left to do.
Please make sure that you know what shifts you have been assigned. Our Director of Volunteers has a very large job trying to fit approximately 200 kids' parents/guardian into slots. If you have a conflict and are unable to cover your shift, it is your responsibility to arrange someone to take that shift.
Remember that it is an expectation for a parent/guardian to fulfill assigned volunteer duties, as a requirement of your child(ren) participating in Fairport Packers. Each family, whether football or cheerleading plays a vital part in our organization, therefore, it is important that we work together to keep the organization running smoothly. The Packers are very fortunate to have great families as a volunteer support base and your children as well as the Packers' Board of Directors appreciates all that you do to help.
