Freedom Area Basketball League: 2012/2013 Divisions
- Kindergarten Only. Recently co-ed based on registration turn-out. Very basic skills are taught, and semi-organized scrimmage games played. No scores/standings are kept.
Instructional Girls - Grades 1 & 2
- A beginners division where score, records and standings are not kept. Games are played under supervision of coaches who control play for instructional purposes. Players learn basic fundamentals such as offense / defense, passing, dribbling, shooting and simple rules such as out-of-bounds. All players play at least half of each game.
Instructional Boys - Grades 1 & 2
- A beginners division where score, records and standings are not kept. 'Games' are played under supervision of coaches who control play for instructional purposes. Players learn basic fundamentals such as offense / defense, passing, dribbling, shooting and simple rules such as 'out-of-bounds'. All players play at least half of each game.
Clinic Girls - Grades 3 & 4
- A more structured level of play where players learn basic rule infractions such as traveling, double dribble, etc., with coaches also performing as officials. Team offense and defense is more soundly introduced. Scores may be kept but no standings or playoffs are permitted. Players each play at least two quarters per game.
Clinic Boys - Grades 3 & 4
- A more structured level of play where players learn basic rule infractions such as traveling, double dribble, etc., with coaches also performing as officials. Team offense and defense is more soundly introduced. Scores may be kept but no standings or playoffs are permitted. Players each play at least two quarters per game.
Intermediate Girls - Grades 5 & 6
- The first structured level of play where scores and standings are kept. Games are officiated by IAABO
and/or high school or college students who enforce a modified version of the basic high school level rules. Players learn more advanced skills like the give-and-go, boxing out, etc. An end of the year tournament is held. Players participate in two quarters per game.
Intermediate Boys - Grades 5 & 6
- The first structured level of play where scores and standings are kept. Games are officiated by IAABO
and/or high school or college students who enforce a modified version of the basic high school level rules. Players learn more advanced skills like the give-and-go, boxing out, etc. An end of the year tournament is held. Players participate in two quarters per game.
Junior Girls - Grades 7 & 8
- The first level of complete full-court play (fast breaks, full-court defense, etc.), with games officiated by IAABO qualified officials. Regular season standings are maintained and an end of the year tournament is held. Advanced skills such as the pick and roll, defensive switches, and structured plays are learned.
Junior Boys - Grades 7 & 8
- The first level of complete full-court play (fast breaks, full-court defense, etc.), with games officiated by IAABO qualified officials. Regular season standings are maintained and an end of the year tournament is held. Advanced skills such as the pick and roll, defensive switches, and structured plays are learned.
Senior Girls - Grades 9 - 12
- Highest level of intramural competition. IAABO qualified officials enforce all National Federation high school rules.
Senior Boys - Grades 9 - 12
- Highest level of intramural competition. IAABO qualified officials enforce all National Federation high school rules.
