CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL EYHA TEAMS ON A GREAT 2009-10 SEASON

As this past Sunday marked the "official" end of the Regular Season for the majority of our teams I wanted to take a few moments to update everyone on our progress for this season and upcoming events as the season begins to come to a close. In so many ways this current season was a huge success. As an organization we have experienced both tremendous growth and success for the 2009-10 season and are very proud of all of our teams and players. It is through the efforts of everyone; players, parents, coaches, team managers, sponsors, the EYHA Board of Directors and friends of the organization that we were able to accomplish as much as we have this season. I want to thank everyone for their support and and offer my congratulations on a job well done.
On the ice we have unprecedented success this season. For those of you who have not heard, all four of our travel level teams were successful in winning division championships for the regular season. C.E. Orr Arena will soon be decorated with a minimum of 4 brand new, Division Championship Banners from the 2009-10 season. With continued hard work and a bit of good luck, we are eligible to earn more banners as Play-Off Champions as well. Our success is not only special to Euclid but is also unique to all of the teams of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey league. No other organization in the CSHL and the level of success that we have experienced this past year.
Beginning with our Mite 1 team (8 years old and under) who in addition to completing the regular season as Champions of the Mite A2 division with a record of 11-2-1 were also successful in winning several tournaments including the Garfield Heights Gold Cup and Cleveland Heights Raymond A. Robinson Memorial Tournament. Representing the City of Euclid and EYHA, the Mite 1 team were Semi-Finalists over Presidents Day Weekend in Niagara Falls at the Niagara Sports Tournament. Our top seeded Mite team will seek to continue on in there winning ways this Saturday, February 27th at 11:30 AM at Cleveland Heights Pavillion (South Rink) as they will take on a team from Geauga in the Semi-Finals of the Mite 2 division.
While not eligible to win a banner as of yet, our Mite 2 (Mite C) team has also experienced tremendous growth this past season while competing in the CSHL Mite C division. Under the guidance of Coach Ted Kohanski this group of players, all under 8 years old and some as young as 4, have worked extremely hard as they begin their hockey careers. While emerging as a leader in the Mite C division the Mite C's will continue playing through the month of March including what we hope will be the inaugural Mite C Jamboree Mini-Mite Hockey Tournament and Celebration March 20th and 21st at C.E. Orr Arena in Euclid.
Our Squirt team, featuring players 8, 9, and 10 years old, were the Division Champions of the Squirt A2 level of the CSHL. In addition to sporting a 15-1 regular season record they were also tournament runner-ups in successive Hockey Time Productions Rock-n-Roll Cup Tournaments in October and November. The top seeded Euclid Squirt team will commence their Play-off season this Sunday, February 28th at 9:15 AM at Mentor Ice Rink (West) as they will host 4th seed Winterhurst in their quest for a Play-Off Championship.
Our Peewee team (10, 11, and 12 year olds) won the CSHL Peewee A3 division with a record of 9-3. Featuring several players new to our program and in their first year of organized hockey Coach Chip Macko and his staff were successful in organizing and leading this group to continued success and molding them into a cohesive unit in their quest for the A3 Division championship. The top seeded Panthers will play the fourth seeded team from Fremont this Saturday, February 28th at Mentor Ice Rink (East) as they attempt to win a 2nd banner this season.
Our Bantam team, a group that was made up of 13-14 year old players combined from the Euclid and Cleveland Heights programs, became the 2009-10 Division Champions in the Bantam A3 Division, with a record of 10-1-1. In addition to their success locally as part of the CSHL, the Bantam team took the Championship Cup in the 2010 Ray Robinson Tournament in Cleveland Heights. The team also earned Runner up trophies in the 2009 Hockey Time Productions Halloween Hockey Rock-n-Roll Cup and finished 3rd Place in the Motown Cup Tournament in Detroit over Presidents Day Weekend , representing the city of Euclid, EYHA and CHHL programs. The top seeded Panthers will take on the Mentor Bantam team this Saturday, February 28th at 10:15 AM as they attempt to become both division and play-off champions for the 09-10 season.
Our youngest group featuring a majority of players under 6 years old, the Learn-to-Play/Panther Track 1 players has not only continued upon the success of the previous Cross Ice program but has also continued to grow and prosper for the 2009-10 season. Under the guidance of Coach Chris Leonard, this group recently played a scrimmage against players from Shaker Heights to what amounted to a "standing room audience" crowd at Euclid's C.E. Orr Arena. While Shaker Heights continues to be a perennial power of youth hockey in the Cleveland area for the past 25 years our young players showed that there is great promise for EYHA's future as well as they stood toe-to-toe with players from that area in what proved to be as much a celebration of youth hockey as it was a victory for our home team.
Our newest group, the Panther Track's 2 has enabled several older player's to take part and learn the game of hockey at a later than traditional age. While still a relatively small group, the Panther Track's 2 players have worked hard to prepare themselves as future member's of the EYHA Travel program and given us great hope that next season we will multiple teams at not only the Mite level but also the Squirt and Peewee levels as well.
Once again, thanks and congratulations to everyone on a great year. We are already looking and making plans for next year and we hope to build upon this year and make 2010-11 season event better.
