Exeter Cardinals History

The Exeter Cardinals Baseball Club was established in 1993 by an Exeter Township insurance professional, Mr. Brian M. Hayes. Fueled by his own personal love for the game, Mr. Hayes sought to provide a strong baseball program for the 13 to 15 year old baseball players in the Exeter Township community. In its first year of existence, the club won the Eastern Berks Babe Ruth Championship, defeating Boyertown 2-1. This gave Exeter its first ever title in the Eastern Berks Babe Ruth League. After the Cardinals enjoyed continuing success for seven years, the Babe Ruth League folded.

In the year 2000, The Exeter Cardinals joined the Berks City County Junior Baseball League. The Club enjoyed immediate success, qualifying for the league playoffs immediately and winning its first City County Championship in 2002. The City County League had big changes in 2004 when it adopted an age change which enabled five 16 year old players to become eligible. The City County League at the direction of Mr. Hayes in 2004 adopted a stand alone 13 year old program, which our club participated in and enjoyed immediate success. In 2006, The City County League adopted a wood bat policy for all levels of play.

Our 2007 16u Cardinals were without a doubt our best product we have ever put on the field, establishing a 15-3 league record and finishing 40-13 overall. Highlights of 2007 include a Muhlenberg Junior Legion Tournament Championship, a strong showing at The Cal Ripken Experience Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC and a strong showing as a return champion in the Fredericksburg Junior Legion Tournament.

As our program continues to evolve, our 16u club for 2008 will be participating in 60+ games. The club will be playing in at least four tournaments which include The Bally Bearcats Tournament, The Fredericksburg Junior Legion Memorial Weekend Tournament, The Muhlenberg Junior Legion  4th of July Tournament, The Cal Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach, SC Tournament. In addition to a weekend trip to Branford, Connecticut to play four games against 18u and 16u competition.

Our mission is to provide the best opportunities that are possible in baseball, and prepare our select players for high school, college and beyond. As you can see from our schedule, it takes a serious commitment from each player and parent to be involved in our program. The majority of our players work out all year round. We are either playing or practicing every day in the summer. Vacations should not be planned until August 1st.
