The Academy Program philosophy is to emphasize player development over team development and focus on the technical development of each child without the pressures of short-term wins/losses/results. The Academy Program will be designed for the player who wants to develop his or her skills with other players who want to advance their skills alongside players with a matched ability. Training sessions will be fun but also fast paced to keep all players active in the sessions. The Academy will not be for all players, assessments are held to determine which players are ready for the advanced training of the Academy. The Academy will be open to boys and girls 7, 8, & 9 years old (8/1/2002-7/31/2005). The Academy will provide a highly qualified Academy Director-from Premier UK
Why is EWSA taking this route?
EWSA is looking to create a quality pool of players in the above age groups that can play with other players of matched ability. Thus, benefiting the players and club in the long run as we will have a large group of trained/skilled players to form Classic Teams and skip Challenge level completely. In addition, players within this age and parents don't want to become burnt out to early with travel as it is a long road ahead till U18 soccer.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS/ INFORMATION
***Costs subject to change. Please see EWSA Player Fee Chart
The Academy Players will play in an organized league involving other Academies in North Carolina. No score will be kept as the main focus will be skill development of each player and to provide a great environment for the players to develop themselves as soccer players. These games allow our players to enjoy the game and also give our coaches the opportunity to teach without having the pressures of winning or losing a game, which can affect the development of the players
Players will practice two times per week; professional trainers will run the training sessions. Premier UK Soccer will be providing the training for the EWSA Academy Program. Training sessions will have a player/trainer ratio of 12 to 1 or less.
Players will be assessed, and then assigned to groups of their own ability and skill level. As players develop they can be reassessed at any time, and assigned to another group. On game days teams will be formed and players often rotated. Players who are carded as an Academy Player cannot be carded to any other team (Recreation, Challenge or Classic) while being carded with US Club Soccer.
Kind words from EWSA Academy Members:
"Through the East Wake Soccer Association Academy program, our daughter has developed the skills needed to play the game of soccer in a fun and supportive atmosphere. She now steps on to the field as a thinking player. She understands that, for the good of the team, it is often better to pass the ball than to shoot. She has also had the benefit of repeated practice with foot skills which are now becoming second nature to her as a player. Her confidence as a player has grown by leaps and bounds. The coaches in the Academy program truly care about all the children, not just as soccer players, but as human beings. They encourage and expect high standards in character and sportsmanship among their players. We feel so lucky and proud to have been a part of the first Academy at EWSA. As we have watched her progress, it is obvious that she will reap the benefits of this training throughout her soccer career."
Sincerely,
Jimmy & Ali Sprouse-U10 Girls Parent
"The Academy program has far exceeding my expectations! In addition to having a great time and receiving quality skills training, my son is also learning that the game of soccer reaches far beyond the goal! He is continually encouraged with positive reinforcement all the while learning the importance of respecting authority, being a team player, and that hard work pays off....skills that will benefit him for a lifetime! Thank you EWSA for this opportunity!"
