Monday, July 21 JULY 2008 5TH PLACE FINISH IN TCS WORLD SERIES NATIONALS!!!!! WOW, we are still in Park City, and not looking forward to the Arizona heat that is sure to face us tomorrow on our journeys back to the State. We couldn't be more proud of our EV Pride Family and the accomplishments of the hardworking and dedicated ladies on this team. WHAT an amazing trip this week was. We started out on Monday with Skills and Opening Cermonies. Tuesday was when the real fun started. Our first game was with SO Cal Kaos, and we tied them with a 4-4 score. A tough tie, as the ladies were not quite up to par in this game. Next game was against the Arkansas Livewires. A strong hitting team, but are bats did not come alive quick enough and we got handed our first loss with a score of 5-3. Wednesday continued with pool play down in Salt Lake City. We rocketed the Clovis Rockets with a score of 9-1 (Run Rule). We fell in our second game to Hustle - a very disappointing game as the ladies were over confident in their opponents. Some how me made it into the Winners Bracket as the last seeded team - Number 33. This would mean that we would have a tough schedule ahead of us. No worries here, as the girls were prepared and thankful that we had made it into the winners bracket. Thursdays game was in Park City and started with the 32nd seeded team - Central Coast Express. We wasted no time in Run-Ruling this team with a score of 10-2. Next up was Anderson Heat, Seeded #1. IT was a tight game till the end, but we prevailed with a 5-4 score. This was one of the most amazing and awesome games played inn Park City this week. In the bottom of the seventh, Anderson Heat had two on, 2nd and 3rd, with 1 out. With a left hand batter up, she hit a fly ball to center field........ Our error-less Emily Canacakos caught the ball, and quickly threw it into home plate. The throw was perfect into the catcher's glove of Jazz Garcia who tagged the runner just inches from the plate. That would give us the third out and a tough WIN over the FIRST place Seed in the tournament. WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO THE TOP NOW!!!!! Thursday's brought us the All-Star Game at 8:15 pm at night. Monique Duran and Melissa Lopez were named to the All-Star game and were on opposite teams. Friday's game's would bring us: EV Pride vs. CO Comets (Win 4-2), EV Pride vs. So Cal Hurricanes (Loss 5-7), EV Pride vs Colorado Crush (6-5), and EV Pride vs Corona Express (Win 5-2). This win ensured that we would be in the top 6 teams to play on Saturday. Our first game was Saturday at 8 am. Saturday's game was 8 am at Quinn Junction against the 5th place seed, Mystic 93. (The eventual second place champions). We came out strong with a base hit from our first batter, but were not able to keep the bats hot. We fell to them with a score of 8-2. This would end our journey to the TOP.... Overall, our bats were hot all week, and we had great defense and pitching. Are we done---NO, more hardwork and we will be back next year to work our way to the top..... |
