State Champions!!!
EVERGREEN G93-Green
ARE GU15 WA STATE CHAMPIONS!!!
TUKWILA -- As the excitement filled Starfire Stadium yesterday, both Evergreen G93-Green and Eastside FC '93-Red were living the dream, competing in the Championship match of the USYSA Washington State Championships. The winner posed to represent the state at the upcoming Farwest Regionals in Lancaster California.
The match began slow as both teams needed to work out their nerves and butterflys. Evergreen struck first at the 15 min mark on a goal by Lindsay. Evergreen continued to play the type of soccer that got them to this match, but Eastside also showed why they were here as well. The game went back and forth as both teams missed on several opportunities. With 5 minutes remaining in the half, Eastside was awarded a free kick from 20 yards out (just outside the penalty box). Eastside's player made a perfect strike into the far upper V to bring them even with Evergreen. The first half ended 1-1.
Evergreen came out to start the second half with a new found tenacity, taking the opening kickoff down the field with Sara putting the ball into the back of the net only to have her called for "offsides". Evergreen did not stop their pressure scoring five minutes later to take the early 2nd half lead. They were still not finished as they continued to pressure the Eastside goal notching another score 15 minutes into the half to take a 3-1 lead. Eastside had a few opportunites in the remaining 30 minutes of the half, but Evergreen still controlled the game and came away with their first State Championship. The stadium exploded as the Evergreen faithful gave them a tremendous ovation for all of their hard work. Congratulations to Eastside for their excellent show of sportsmanship and skillful display on the field.
With their victory, Evergreen G93-Green is having to prepare for their trek to the upcoming 2009 USYSA Farwest Regionals to be held the week of June 15 to June 21, 2009.

FARWEST REGIONAL UPDATE...
LANCASTER -- Evergreen G93-Green got the action started early Monday morning, facing the Montana representative, Magic City FC in their first match of group play. Evergreen got a goal in the first half, scored by Jessie, but could not manage to get another. Evergreen controlled all facets of the game until with just around 5 minutes remaining, Evergreen got caught when Montana made a quick "counter-strike", giving them a 1v1 with the Evergreen keeper. They got the equalizer and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Day 2 - Evergreen G93-Green faced the Hawaii "wild card" team, Ka'oi Rush. Just like the previous day, Jessie gave Evergreen the early lead only to give it right back, the first half ended in a 1-1 tie. Evergreen continued to challenge the Hawaii goal, getting the early lead 2-1, on a goal by Lindsay. Hawaii struck again, evening the score 2-2. Evergreen tried to retake the lead, but the Hawaii defense would not let us strike again. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.Day 3 - Evergreen G93-Green had everything to play for this day, as a victory would give them enough points to punch their ticket into the quarterfinals. Evergreen faced the Oregon team, Oregon Rush, who had won their previous two matches and had already earned a spot into the quarterfinals. Evergreen did not appear to have the same determination as in prevous matches and ended up losing the match 0-3. Lady luck must have been watching out for Evergreen, as the Hawaii and Montana match ended in a 2-2 draw, giving the tiebreaker to Evergreen.
Day 4 - OFF DAY
Day 5 - Quarterfinals: Evergreen G93-Green vs Colorado Rush - It seems strange that we had to face a Rush team 3 times in our first 4 matches. We faced a very good Colorado team, but it appeared that the old Evergreen team finally appeared in Lancaster, they played similar to what got them here. Brittney scored off a header 10 minutes into the match, giving Evergreen all they would need to advance into the semifinals. Colorado put tremendous pressure on the Evergreen defense in the 2nd half with numerous shots hitting the crossbar. Miranda also made some tremendous saves to preserve Evergreen's victory.Day 6 - Semifinals: Evergreen G93-Green vs Sereno 93-White (AZ) - The Colorado match took its toll on Evergreen, as they did not appear to have a whole lot of energy remaining in their 15 year old bodies. Sereno scored first only to see Evergreen come right back with CJ sending in a cross to the front of the goal, that Lindsay laced into the back of the net. The half ended in a 1-1 draw. Sereno would take the lead again in the 2nd half and their defense would hold on for the 2-1 victory, giving them the opportunity of playing in the finals against SoCal Blues.
Congratulations to all the ladies in their major accomplishments. None of us parents believed that we would be traveling down to Lancaster California for the Farwest Regionals. It could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but we hope not. Now that they saw how good of a team they really are, maybe we can take a return trip next year!
