GAIL  WEILER  SOFTBALL  SPIRIT  AWARD

For  the  2008  season,  Etobicoke  Girls  Softball  has  instituted  its  first  league  memorial  award,  the  Gail  Weiler  Softball  Spirit  Award.  The  trophy  was  purchased  in  honour  of  the   former  President  of  Eringate  Minor  Softball.  Gail  Weiler  worked  tirelessly  behind  the  scenes  to  organize  and  promote  softball  in  our  community.  We  believe it  was  her  wish  and  goal  that  girls  softball  continue  to  thrive  in  Etobicoke.  With  this  in  mind,  each  season  one  girl  from  every  division  who  plays  with  and  exemplifies  the  spirit  of  softball  that  was  at  the  heart  of  Gail's  efforts,  will  be  presented  with  this  award.  To  view  the  winners  for  2008,  please  check  the  Etobicoke  News  portion  of  the  website.

ETOBICOKE GIRLS SOFTBALL GOES TO UNIVERSITY

President Stephen Poirier and League Webmaster Andrea Weiler travelled to Kitchener in October to watch 2 Etobicoke Midget Players compete in the Ontario University Playoffs. Anne Simpson-Porco was a member of the Guelph team and Chardae Schnabel was a member of the McMaster team. After completing another fun and successful season playing in our Midget divisions, both players left town to attend University. While dealing with all the other pressures of first-year university life, both Chardae and Anne decided to try-out for their respective school fastpitch teams. The results of the try-outs were conclusive. Etobicoke is producing some fine ball players. We are proud of these two young ladies for their successful move to University Fastpitch after many years of playing in Etobicoke.
