The ALS Association symbolizes the hopes of people everywhere that Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis will one day be a disease of the past - relegated to historical status, studied in medical textbooks, conquered by the dedication of thousands who have worked ceaselessly to understand and eradicate this perplexing killer.
Until that day comes, the ALS Association relentlessly pursues its mission to help people living with ALS and to leave no stone unturned in search for the cure of the progressive neurodegenerative disease that took the life and name of baseball legend Lou Gehrig.
As the only not-for-profit voluntary health agency dedicated solely to the fight against ALS, we direct the largest privately-funded research enterprise engaged to uncover the mystery of a disease that affects as many as 30,000 annually. With more than 5,600 people diagnosed each year - an average of 15 new cases each day - our mission is urgent. The search for answers knows

Oldest Bank in Maine
In February of 1827, 48 prominent citizens of Saco appealed to the State Legislature for the Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution charter. Announcing our opening on May 23rd of that same year, we received our first deposit of $3 one week later.
We’ve come a long way since that first deposit. Today, over 178 years later, we’re the oldest bank in Maine, and still one of the fastest growing. Our progress and growth stem from providing exceptional service and loyalty to our customers and our communities since 1827. While we do our best to keep in step with new technology, we also strive to maintain the best of the past. And that’s what makes us different than most other banks. We’re all about people, and that’ s what’s most important to us. After all, we’re your friends, neighbors and relatives...You Know Us and We Know You.
We’re not just your local bank, we are an institution.
About Mutuality
SBSI’s statement of purpose was written over 178 years ago, but we’ve never lost sight of our roots. Our unwavering mission as your local mutual savings institution is to serve customers and the communities in which we live and work. Our rates and policies are not defined by potential profit, but continue to uphold our initial promise to give customers the best rates and lowest fees possible.
Why We’re Different
“At SBSI, we’re sticklers about personal service. When you call us, a real live person still answers the phone. That may not be as cost-effective as having an automated machine handling calls, but that’s the SBSI way. We’re all about people. The long-standing success of the bank would not have been possible without the efforts and loyalties of our skilled employees, faithful customers and all the people who live and work in the communities we serve. And most of all, we never lose sight of our roots. And that's the way we believe banking should be.” (Kevin P. Savage, President & CEO)
Our Mission
The mission of this Mutual Savings Bank is to be a financially sound independent bank which provides superior financial products and services to meet the evolving needs of our customers and communities in a customer-focused culture.
Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
In order to ensure the proper and ethical performance of our business and to maintain the confidence of our customers and our communities, all Directors, Officers and Employees of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution are expected to maintain high standards of honesty, integrity, confidentiality, impartiality and conduct, and to avoid misconduct and conflicts of interest, or the appearance of conflicts of interest.
To promote these standards and values, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution has established and adopted a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics to provide guidance concerning the standards of ethical conduct by, and responsibilities of, all Directors, Officers and Employees of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution. Each employee and director must share in the belief that a dedicated commitment to ethical behavior is the right thing to do, is good for business, and is the surest way for Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution to become and remain the best it can be to the communities it serves.
Directors, Officers and Employees agree to:
1. Act with honest and ethical conduct, including the ethical handling of actual or apparent conflicts of interest between personal and professional relationships.
2.To the best of their knowledge and abilities, comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations of federal, state and local governments.
