WELLER THREW 4 1/3 INNINGS!!
GREENWALD--The Elrosa Saints picked up their first victory of the 2008 season with a 5-1 win over the Greenwald Cubs Sunday afternoon in Greenwald. The Saints, who have been battling arm problems as of late, got a huge pick me up from newcomer Zach Weller. Weller, who is fresh off his first season at Concordia (Moorhead), started on the mound for the Saints and provided Elrosa with 4 1/3 innings giving up only 1 run. Matt Middendorf relieved Weller and threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings followed by a scoreless 9th inning coming from the arm of Aaron Vogt. The Saints knocked out seven hits in the victory and committed only one error. Middendorf batted 3-for-5 with an RBI. Ethan Vogt picked up 2 RBIs with a two out single to left. Jon Olmscheid ripped a solid double to the left field wall and Pat Illies and Matt Bauer picked up the remaining hits for the Saints. Weston Wander caught a perfect bullpen session to remain perfect on the year but dropped his state leading batting average to .500. Elrosa will host two games this weekend. The Saints will renew their rivalry with the Regal Eagles on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Elrosa and then will host Meire Grove on Sunday afternoon in Elrosa with the first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m.
