Saints Smack 'Streaks 8-3 In Season Opener
NEW MUNICH--The Elrosa Saints played solid fundamental baseball on their way to an 8-3 opening day victory over the Silverstreaks Sunday afternoon in New Munich. The Saints broke open a 3-3 tie in the 7th inning scoring two runs in the top half of the inning as Aaron Vogt and the Saints defense shut down the 'Streaks in the final three frames. Pat Illies led the offensive attack batting 2-for-4 including a double and two runs batted in. The Saints took advantage of four New Munich errors and got key run scoring sacrifice flys from Illies, Mike Zenzen, Matt Middendorf, and Steve Mueller. Dustin Breitbach started on the mound and pitched five solid innings before giving way to Vogt who picked up the victory. The defense played solid as usual and committed no errors to aid Breitbach and Vogt. The Saints (1-0) will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Richmond (1-1) to take on the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
