TOWANDA — Paige Wampole and Kaeli Sutryk combined for 29 points in leading Sayre to a 40-36 win over Milton here Saturday in the championship game of the Williams Auto Group Towanda Tip-Off Tournament.

"A young team took a giant step in maturity tonight," said Sayre coach Eileen Sparduti.  "This was truly a team win.

"Different players stepped up big when it was needed," she said. "Each player had to fulfill her role to get this victory."

Sparduti said defense was the key in the win.

"I told the girls before the game that we had to hold this team to less than 40 points to keep it competitive. Our team defense rose to that occasion."

Wampole led the Lady Redskins with 17 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots, and Sutryk added 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and four assists.

"Paige Wampole delivered the type of game we will need in big games at both ends of the floor," said Sparduti. "Kaeli Sutryk found her shot from the arc.

"And although you will not see her listed in the stats, senior Emily Garrity came off the bench and gave us some very important minutes when we needed them, she added.

Cheyanna Roberts chipped in with six points for the Lady Redskins, while Tracy added seven rebounds and five assists and Molly Ball grabbed six rebounds.

Sayre returns to action Monday at Blue Ridge.
