HELPING PARTICIPANTS WITH HEAT SYMPTOMS

Your League President and Safety VP would like everyone to be on the look-out for heat related symptoms for all our participants.

Our League Safety VP encourages all participants to stay hydrated BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER games. Waiting until your player starts to play and beings losing hydration could be too late. By hydrating before games, the body gets a "head-start" once play begins. Besides water and Powerade, orange slices work well as they also help with sugar levels. Sugared drinks are no help with heat related symptoms and should be avoided. A towel to dip in the ice water works great. Also, please notice ALL participants to help ensure everyone's safety.

Our League President has mandated ALL Managers MUST provide a bucket of ice with water to players during practices and games. Buckets, ice, and water (from the tap) are available in the Concession Stand for each game. Please return the bucket to the concession stand after your game. Umpires have been given discretion to delay play for water breaks and allow more time between innings to ensure players have time to stay hydrated.

Elkton Little League thanks you and asks parents to help in keeping our participants safe. Your League is doing what it can to help but the players parents/legal guardians should be available for every game/practice to help with your player as needed.

UMPIRING WITH PROPER EQUIPMENT

Thank you to every adult who volunteered to Umpire a game behind the plate this year. Without you our League wouldn't be possible. Your League Umpire VP has noticed a few Umpires volunteering behind the plate who are not wearing the proper equipment. Proper Umpire equipment is as follows:

  • Face Mask with Throat Guard
  • Chest Protector
  • Shin Guards
  • Steel Toed Shoes (optional but highly recommended)

Our League provides a Face Mask, Chest Protector, and Shin Guards for each Division. The Umpiring equipment should be located in each Divisions Clubhouse or Equipment Room and returned after each use as there are not any extra sets. Elkton Little League's Insurance Carrier requires this Umpire equipment and it will take everyone to help enforce it, even if it means postponing the game.
