FALCONS ADVANCE TO ONTARIO INDOOR CUP QUARTER FINAL ROUND
The Falcons opened their indoor season play with an impressive performance in the preliminary round of the Ontario Indoor Cup Provincial Soccer Championships.
Giving up just a single goal in three games, the team fought 3 hard battles and finished the round with a win, a tie, and a loss. The 4 points would tie the team with Erin Mills, however goal differential slotted the Falcons in third place. That turns out to be a plus when it comes to the next round.
The first game of the day was against Innisfil and this game was never in doubt. A 2-0 win, that should certainly have resulted in more Falcon goals, the rust showed a bit, but it was a solid start. In the second game, against the OYSL Erin Mills team, there were excellent chances at both ends, and Aly and Julie stood out in this one. Everyone played hard, but both keepers kept the sheet clean, with an end result being a 0-0 tie. This secured the 4 points needed to advance to the next round, and the team had not given up a goal. In our final game of the day, the Falcons faced Unionville, and the game showed us that we still have some work to do. Despite numerous chances, we could not finish and gave up a goal early. The team calmed down, and started to play well, but couldn't find the elusive equalizer. The chances were there, and this would be the only loss of the day.
Just 3 weeks into the winter training program, and in their first competition in 4 months, all the girls did very well, shaking off some of the cob webs on the way to advancing to the next round. Well done Falcons!! Much was learned and we have a good idea of where we need to focus our efforts in the next few months. Work hard on the fitness, and stay as focused as you have been. Everyone played well but everyone also needs to use this as a learning process and evaluate the areas that the players should work hard at in the winter sessions.
Check the calendar for the next round opponents on the 27th of February 2010. The quarter final round schedule is now posted. The result on day 1 of this event now has us playing against Nepean, Vaughan and West Rouge in the next round. Not a bad place to be Ladies!!
Falcons Rule!!!!

ATTENDANCE FIGURES FOR THE WINTER 2009/2010 PROGRAM
WE WILL AGAIN BE TRACKING AND POSTING THE ATTENDANCE FIGURES DURING THE INDOOR SEASON. WE DO THIS SO THAT PLAYERS CAN TRACK THEIR PARTICIPATION IN TEAM ACTIVITIES ON AN ON-GOING BASIS AS IT IS A CRUCIAL PART OF EVERYONE'S COMMITMENT TO THIS TEAM. NOT EVERYONE CAN MAKE EVERY SESSION, BUT THE EFFORT TO DO SO IS IMPORTANT, AND THE ABILITY TO DO SO IS VITAL. THIS SESSION, THE ATTENDANCE FIGURES WILL BE SPLIT UP BETWEEN FITNESS SESSION, PRACTICE SESSIONS, AND GAMES. EACH WILL BE SHOWN AS IN INDIVIDUAL STAT, AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF POINTS WILL ALSO BE SHOWN. 3 POINT FOR ATTENDING, 2 POINTS FOR ATTENDING LATE OR LEAVING EARLY. AND 0 POINTS FOR NOT ATTENDING. FAILURE TO NOTIFY THE COACHES WHEN NOT ATTENDING WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF POINTS. INJURY OR ILLNESS SITUATIONS WILL BE DEALT WITH ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS, BUT, AS PER OSA, MSC, AND INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS, ALL PLAYERS TOO INJURED OR SICK TO PRACTICE SHOULD NOT PLAY UNTIL CLEARED BY MEDICAL EXPERTS.
BREAKDOWN OF POINTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
F=FITNESS SESSION
P=PRACTICE SESSION
G=GAMES PLAYED IN, INC EXHIBITION, TOURNAMENT AND OTHER GAMES.
THERE MUST BE A BALANCE IN ALL AREAS. PLAYERS THE DON'T PARTICIPATE IN FITNESS AND PRACTICE WILL NOT PLAY IN GAMES. THAT WOULD NOT BE FAIR TO THOSE THAT DO THE HARD WORK.
TRACK YOUR OWN STATISTICS, AND WORK ON THOSE THAT ARE OUT OF LINE.

Excellent effort in the first of our fitness runs!!!
Amanda led the team in today's fitness run. The girls ran for close to an hour, and finished close together. It was great to see so many participate, and encouraging to see hpw well they did. An outstanding way to start the winter session. Remember to do some running on your own as well, and you will find that in no time at all, these runs will become much easier!! Failure to participate in fitness is a guarantee to fail!!
PS:, I'll get some more "gummy bears" for next weekend and we will again have hot chocolate for you as well.

MISSISSAUGA SOCCER CLUB GIRLS U15 FALCONS ARE THE 2009 SRSL ELITE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!
Last night's victory over Niagara Falls clinches the South Region's Soccer League 2009 Elite Championship Title for the Mississauga Falcons!!! In a fantastic finish, the girls used all the negative talk and goading of the opponent's coach to their advantage. Don't put these young ladies down is the lesson to learn!! They came to play, knew what they wanted, and used the motivation well!!
We knew this would be a close one. Bri scored the only goal of the game off of a corner kick, and Aly stood on her head to keep the sheet clean, earning her 9th shut out in 14 games. Oh ya, she missed most of the other games due to injury but we had fantastic backup!!
I could and will later give a detailed game summary, right now it's difficult to type, just too excited for the girls.
I can say this, I have never been so proud as I am today. The Falcon girls are awesome, as anyone who knows what this team has gone thru knows, and this win earns them the well deserved promotion to the OYSL for 2010, the top level of soccer in the province!!!

Attendance Award Points for 2009

ATTENDANCE POINTS FOR THE 2009 OUTDOOR SEASON.
remember:
"FAILING TO PRACTICE IS PRACTICING TO FAIL!!!!"
When we first put this team together, we stressed the importance of attendance. We have kept track of these figures and will continue to do so during the season. Points are awarded based on the following conditions.
3 points for attending a practice/game.
2 points for attending but arriving late or leaving early
0 points for not attending and there are deductions for failure to notify the team.
Players are expected to advise the team staff if they will not attend and the reason for it. Any player missing the practices before a game will not start the next game unless the team staff has been adivsed of the reason for it. Players missing 2 practices prior to a game will not play the next game unless the team is short of players and the player has met the requirements of notifying the team. Injuries will be dealt with on an individual basis. A player that can't practice the day before a game should not expect the play the following day. Injuries don't heal that fast. Injured players will be awarded full points for attending practices. Participation in practices is an important part of team commitment. At the end of the game, not the individual but rather the team wins or loses. That's why we need this kind of dedication if we are to reach our goals!! The key to success is a team effort, let's set that as our goal!!!
Please keep an eye on your numbers and check them frequently. These are updated after every session, and if your feel an error has been made, let me know so I can correct it.

FIVE U17 MISSISSAUGA FALCONS REPRESENTED TEAM ONTARIO IN THE CANADA GAMES THIS WEEK!!
This week, the Canada games took place in PEI and 5 members of the U17 Mississauga Falcons represented Ontario and the Mississauga Soccer Club in the event. Ontario earned the bronze medal, and the tournament top goal scorer was a Mississauga Falcon, Adriana Kristina Leon scored 7 times to earn the golden boot.
Congrats to all the girls, coaches, and our club for an incredible showing at this event!!
You all know the U17 team coach, Coach Emilio. He recently ran a great session for our team and has expressed his best wishes to our girls in their quest.
Click on the story headline for more info from the Canada Games.

WELL DONE AT PRACTICE TODAY LADIES, A VERY IMPORTANT SESSION, REMEMBER WHAT YOU LEARNED!!!
I was very pleased with the way the girls practiced today, it was an excellent session. Thanks so much to Emilio for taking the time to work with the girls.
I have to relay something to you ladies. We had a rep coaches meeting on Friday night. During that meeting, this team was singled out, and Emilio himself, as Director of Technical Developement, single out this team as an example to be proud of. Don't kid yourselves, the club has taken notice of your season, and is behind you 100%. They also know very well what individual players are up to, how they play, their attendance and commitment, the whole package is under the microscope. That's part of being a top team in a club like this, they will do everything they can to help us succeed. They are also very honest about letting me know about what they see as the problem areas, and where we need to improve. We will need to improve, no doubt about that, and as we enter the last third of the season, it will be up to each and every member of this team to establish their position on the team. The way to do that is thru positive impact on the field, in our remaining games. In order to accomplish that, you must take advantage of each and every remaining session, specifically, practices. At the end of the season, I will have to select the team for next year, and there will be no part time openings. This is a team for commited, full time players, and we have lots of those!! I'm sure that I have made that clear since the we put the team together, I'm just not certain everyone understands it. Every player on this team has what it takes, but also has to show it now. Don't hold back anything, this is not the time. My phone and e-mails messages are already buzzing with players looking for a team next year. Nothing would please me more than to say, we are full!!
An interesting observation was the fact that I tend to make substitutions in games where the starting players are doing well. The general idea is that I have to go with what is working, and not change up just to give everyone playing time. I know this is a difficult issue. Having said that, I went to an OYSL game yesterday, and observed that despite having 18 players present, there were no changes during the first half, and the first substitutions were not made until the last 20 minutes of the game. Some players didn't get any time on the field. The other thing that stood out to me, was the fact that we could compete with either of the teams that played.
Tryout dates are now set, and we will post that information shortly. Winter programs will also take shpe in the next few weeks. Keep up the hard work ladies, and show the stuff you are made of.
Emilio was very impressed today, I thank you for working so hard, many of you made a very good impression, and he was very impressed. It was an important session, and I hope you took note of the important points!! The mental approach is so important. Go out there with a negative attitude, and you can expect to play that way. Have a positive attitude, and you will have that kind of impact. The high pressure game is something we need to get better at, and this session was a great one to improve your ability to play that way.
Thanks again for your efforts today, and take it into the game tomorrow!!

WHAT A MUD FEST, MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT WERE THOSE OFFICIALS THINKING!?!?!?!
Without a doubt, last night’s game was played in the worst conditions I have every seen, that’s not an exaggeration, I have never seen anything like it. I can only imagine the frustration in that second half. You made the adjustments we asked you to, created the opportunities, very nice ones under the conditions, and to be robbed the way you were, what can I say. One the other hand, Lincoln went home, probably thinking, that this is the justice for the way we beat them first time round. Under the circumstances, it seems fair that both teams got a point, if for no other reason than the fact that both played on that field.Fortunately no field related injuries happened, it sure could have happened. What I have to wonder about is, now that the field there has been essentially destroyed, what about future games there. We will keep an eye on that situation. As far as last night’s play, the first half was not great, and we didn’t stick to the pregame plan of playing wide, and keeping the ball out of the middle. When conditions are like they were, it’s important to stick to your strengths, and for this team, playing down the sides was the better option. One touch, two touch, then pass the ball. No way should we be trying to play one vs one with those conditions. Just look at the way the second half went, you made a mess of them (NO PUN INTENDED) down the sides, and got the great crosses in, and the rest is as they say history. You also showed great character when after all those opportunities and the results of those efforts, Lincoln puts a ball in to take a lead. Rather than cave in this team has done what it has done all year, and persistent with the attack to equalize. That so far is the trait that impresses me most with our team.
I think it’s important to recognize the amazing efforts of the U14 girls in last night’s game. We obviously were again in need of players, and Zoe, Stef and Kassandra came to the rescue. It is an unwritten rule that when you call players up, you play them. From the start, these players were there to give it their best, and what can I say, both girls scored our goals, and Zoe did a great job in the net. Ask yourselves this, would I have wanted to play in those nets, yet not a word of complaint from Zoe. Kassandra and Stef’s co-operative team play is something we need to recognize, and frankly, learn from. The way they moved the ball around between them was amazing!! Both scored a goal, making it 3 in total as call ups for us between the 2 of them. 3 goals in a total of 4 league games (3 for Kassandra and 1 for Stef), an outstanding accomplishment. With any luck they would have doubled that tally last night and they manufactured the opportunities, nothing fluke about it. I think it’s fair to say that they simply gave +100% ever minute they were out there. Stef and Kassandra are joint “moose” winners last night. Thanks Ladies!!
We of course got excellent effort from our regular members as well. With another Falcon arriving on crutches, and several unavailable, we scrambled with field positions. ( think we may need to apply for a special permit for an injured section at our bench) This has been the story of the season of us. We have not had the same or even similar lineup from game to game all season, and last night was no exception. The story for our players last night was again their willingness to lay it all on the line, and fight till the last whistle, a fantastic character trait present in so many of you. Be very proud of that!!!
The next 2 weeks have us up against Brantford in league and league cup play. These are cructial games, and every one of you will have to step up to the plate. The tie yesterday means we give away 2 points, and are tied in first, with Brantford right behind, and Brams real close as well. It’s turning into a real battle up top, and our team remains in the heat of the battle, ever point will be important. In the month of August, we have to be focused entirely on the league and cup play, and expect to have some additional club coaches coming out to work with you. There’s a lot at stake, especially pride, you have done very well this season, and it now comes down to last few games of the year. Go for it Falcons, if you really want it, then go for it.

FALCONS FINALY MEET GEORGETOWN, AND ADD ANOTHER 3 POINTS TO THE FALCON TOTAL
THE FALCONS HAD TO DO IT THE HARD WAY TONIGHT. WITH JUST 13 PLAYERS, AND A HUMID NIGHT ON THE TURF, THE GIRLS HAD A DIFFICULT TASK AHEAD. THE GAME WAS NOT THE BEST PLAYED GAME THIS SEASON, BUT A TERRIFIC FREE KICK GOAL FROM JULIE WAS FOLLOWED BY A GREAT FINISH FROM TAYLOR, AND THE TEAM WAS AHEAD 2-0 AT THE HALF. THE SECOND HALF WAS ONE OF FATIGUE, AND SEVERAL PLAYERS WERE INJURED TRYING TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING. sECOND HALF GOALS FROM ALIX AND KATIE SEALED THE DEAL, BUT AT ONE POINT IT LOOKED LIKE WE WOULD HAVE TO FINISH THE GAME WITH JUST 10 PLAYERS. THE GIRLS DUG DEEP, AND MAINTAINED THE SCORE LINE AT 4-0. COURTNEY EARNED THE SHUTOUT WITH AN EXCELLENT GAME IN NET, WHICH ALSO EARNED HER THE "MOOSE". SORRY WE COULDN'T ACTUALLY GIVE IT TO YOU BUT YOU DESERVED IT ALL THE WAY. THIS GAME PROVED AGAIN THAT, DESPITE ADVERSITY, THIS TEAM ALWAYS MANAGES TO GIVE IT THE EXTRA NEEDED TO GET IT DONE. I'M GLAD TO SAY THAT WE WILL HAVE SOME HELP IN OUR NEXT GAME, OBVIOUSLY WE CAN'T CONTINUE WITH SO FEW PLAYERS, IT JUST CREATES THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURIES TO OUR PLAYERS. THE CALL UPS HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO HELP EVERY TIME THEY WERE ASKED, AND WE CERTAINLY NEED THEIR HELP WITH SO FEW PLAYERS AVAILABLE AND HEALTHY. WELL DONE TONIGHT GIRLS, ANOTHER GAME IN WHICH YOU SHOWED YOUR CHARACTER!!

SOME AMAZING NUMBERS IN YESTERDAY'S KEEP-UP COMPETITION
AS PART OF YESTERDAY'S SESSION, WE HAD A KEEP-UP COUNT AND THERE WERE SOME AMAZING NUMBERS
lEADING THE PACK WAS JULIE WITH A REMARKABLE 147 TOUCHES, FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY ALIX WITH AN EQUALLY REMARKABLE 131. DANI, DIANA, TAYLOR, AND KELSEY WOUNDED OUT THE TOP 6 WITH 58, 51, 47, AND 44 TOUCHES .
THE NUMBERS WERE GOOD, ALTHOUGH A FEW PLAYERS COULD USE A BIT OF EXTRA PRACTICE. REMEMBER, THIS KIND OF THING IS ABOUT IMPROVING YOUR OWN NUMBERS MORE THAN IT IS ABOUT TRYING TO BEAT OTHER PLAYERS NUMBERS, AND REMEMBER THE SAYING, "EVERYTIME I TOUCH THE BALL, I GET A LITTLE BUT BETTER." KEEP-UPS ARE AN EXCELLENT WAY TO IMPROVE YOUR FIRST TOUCH AND EASY TO WORK ON BY YOURSELF.

CARWASH FUNDRAISER AN EXCELLENT SUCCESS!!!
 |
|
|
The Falcons were busy at "work" last weekend in the first ever Falcon Carwash Fundraiser. A good time was had by all, but it was not just fun and games. The girls washed a lot of cars, and even has customer going home to get their other cars. Great job Falcons, and the money you raised will go directly to your team and team events. Thanks to all the parents, and supporters that also came out in force, a combined effort and success. I guess that's what they call "TEAMWORK". It was so nice to see so many of you there and willing to spend the hours, at least we had a nice day, and managed to ge soaked a time or 2. Thanks to Leisa, Sandra, and all of you for doing this, and of course, thank you Walmart for providing the facility, and matching the funds raised in this effort by the team. Also, to the team leaders who were always there to lead the way.
Now lets see the same kind of effort in this weeks game!!!
Some pictures for your enjoyment as well.

2009 TERRA PROVINCIAL POWER RANKINGS ARE RELEASED
The Terra Provincial Power Rankings have been released. Way to go Falcons, you are ranked in the top 10 of all U15 teams in Ontario, an amazing accomplishment, you should all be very proud of the way YOU HAVE performed to get such recognition!!! You are ranked higher than 4 OYSL teams!!!
http://tpr.getgame.ca/?page=teams&DPick=GIRLS
TERRA Power Rankings
This site is dedicated to analyzing, publishing and preserving
competitive youth soccer statistics in Ontario, Canada.
Even more impressive, if the totals we calculated at the end of last week, and with the team record of 6 wins, vs 0 lost, at the Elite SRSL level, with a the goal differential of 23 goals for, and 1 against, and a 100% win percentage in SRSL and League cup play, you do the math!! Compare that to the rest of the teams out there.
The Mississauga Soccer Club has the highest winning percentage for all the top clubs in the entire province, based on the league results of all provincial leagues and clubs. What an amazing result for the club, and you may want to compare that to our other local clubs, a great accomplishment for all the teams at our club.
It must turn some clubs green with envy!!

FALCONS REBOUND FROM LAST WEEK'S 1ST LOSS TO DEFEAT SALTFLEET
Last nught in Mississauga, the Falcons rebounded from last week's 1st loss of the season. Facing Saltfleet for the second time this summer, the Falcons took the 3 points in a hard fought battle, winning 3-2 on goals from Alix, Julie, and Ally. An injury depleted Falcon squad, aided by 3 U14 call up players, took an early lead, only to see Saltfleet take it to us for a good part of the game. Our opponent managed to take a 2-1 lead early in the second half, but the Falcons were not to be denied. The winner came off the foot of our injured keeper, an appropriate way to finish the game. Saltfleet played a good game, but it was not enough to set back the Falcons on this day. Not our best played game, but the never quit attitude again showed thru, and another notch in the win column.
Special thanks to Lexi, Zoe, and Kassandra for helping us get thru this one during a difficult time.
Tho moose went to Kristal for the way she turned her game around in the second half, helping us keep the ball in the opponents end, which eventually led to the goals that made the difference.
PS: Niagara Falls tied their game against Georgetown. As a result, we gained back 2 points on Niagara, A FEW LESSONS TO BE LEARNED THERE. Never take any game for granted, nor any opponent. On any day, anyone can surprise you. Heck, that's why we play the game. The net result is a 1 point difference between 1st and 2nd place, and the race continues. Also, understand why it is that in games as close as yesterdays game have to be played for the win, and when it comes down to it, we simply have to keep the players that on any given day are getting the job done best. It's not about playing time, if you are on your game that day, and having the needed impact, you will play more than you do if that's not the case. Come to the next game, more determined, willing to mix it up and fight for the ball everytime and focused, and be one of the IMPACT players. That's how playing time get increased. Also don't forget the importance of doing fitness work on your own!!! We focus on soccer in the summer, and fitness is something you can and MUST improve at, on your own, if you have the desire and drive needed to do so. I will bet that those that do, are also those improving week after week.
Saturday, July 4
Another Long day for the Falcons, and another excellent effort from all of them!!!
Our 1/4 final game at the Toronto Cup put the team up against the girls from Markham. If there was to be any doubt about the result, Cortney quickly put that to rest as she became a 1 person wrecking crew. Within 15 minutes, the Falcons were up 3-0 as Cortney scored the natural hat-trick and this one was essentially over. The girls then played a very nice, controlled game, and we were able to spread the minutes out nicely. Players had opportunities to play different positions, and a few that had not been able to rest their tired legs got the chance to do so. A smart game from the girls, and they never lost the focus not drive, but rather maintained a level of play needed to reach the semi-final round later in the day. Final score in this one, 3-0 Falcons!!!
The semi would be a more difficult game, a rematch against the Ottawa Internationals U16 team they had played on opening day. In this game, we saw what happens when players hit "the wall" so to speak. The combined number of games had taken their toll, and it started to show. Ottawa is a big, tough team, and they played that way. Good soccer, and we couldn't quite deal with them on this day. Despite chances, the ball wouldn't go in the net, and our opponent was able to find the target twice, giving them the 2-0 win and advancement to the cup final. Great effort Falcons, bit after all the soccer in the last 4 days, with 6 intense games, it was only a matter of time until we would have to accept that we couldn't do it all. Be very proud of what you accomplished at the tournament, and remember that it was a big test for all of you, to see just how far we could go in such a short time period. You did great, and deserved the rest and chance to sleep in Sunday morning. Besides, the most important game was yet to come, the League Cup 1/4 final on Sunday afternoon. Ha, and you thought you could rest......
Friday, July 3
Falcons give their best in Toronto Cup play, Fatigue certainly showed on this day.
Less the 10 hours after playing a late league game in adverse weather, the Falcons again took to the field in their 4th game in just over 2 days. The game against Aurora would be a difficult one, yet it remained scoreless until the last few minutes. Playing with only 10 players, we couldn't hold the score, and gave up 2 goals at the end in what was not a particularily important game. Final score, 2-0 for our opponent. Nothing to be too concerned about, sometimes the tank is empty, and these girls know how to re-coup.
The days second game was against the Ottawa Royals, and again we saw signs of the fatigue obseved in the first game. Amanda put the team ahead 1-0 when she perfectly converted a penalty kick, and the score remained this way until the last few minutes of the game. A late breakaway by Ottawa tied the game 1-1 and so it remained at full time. Enough to place the Falcons in a solid second place finish after round robin play.
A special thanks to Lexi and Stef from the U14 team for again providing us with excellent play and effort all day.
Hats off to all of you for the way you dug deep despite tired legs and minds, an effort to be proud of!!!

FALCONS CAGE THE NMSC PANTHERS, ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET AND 3 POINTS!!
The NMSC Panthers were no match for the Mississauga Falcons in Thursday night's rain soaked league match at the Brickyard. Playing their second game of the day, the Falcons left no room for doubt, and put this game away early. Led by Taylor, who recorded another hat-trick, and goals from Amanda and Diana adding to the total. Ally made sure nothing got behind her for her 5th straight shut out. What impressed the most was the combined effort of the entire team, be it the defenders who were rock solid, the midfielders who owned their area, and the forwards who attacked relentlessly. Wow, another fantastic effort from all of you. Lexi again helped us out, after playing a game and attending her practice for her own team. Final score, 5-0 Falcons!!
Despite pouring rain, the quality of play remained very high, and the Ladies put to rest any thoughts NMSC may have had that they were the equal of these Falcons. They did it the right way, and showed them how it's done on the playing field.
Falcons rules!!!!

A GOOD FALCON START AT THE TORONTO CUP, 2-0 WIN OVER OTTAWA INTERNATIONALS U16'S
The Falcons have started off well in the Toronto Cup by defeating the U16 team the Ottawa Internationals. A bit of an inconsistent game for our team, with no score at the half, the Falcons kept on going for it in the second half, and went ahead on a nice finish, a pass to the back of the net from just inside the 18 yard line, taken by Rachel. The second goal followed a short time later as Taylor added one more to he amazing season total. We saw a reasonable effort and result from all the girls, and want to thank Lexi and Stef for their excellent play as callup players. We were able to rest some of the girls as a result, and Vanessa won the Moose for her strong and consistent play in the back. Well done Falcons, a good start to an interesting stretch of games these ladies have ahead of them.

FALCONS CONTINUE TO PLAY WELL, TAKING THE 3 POINTS FROM SALTFLEET.
The Falcons played their long time rival Saltfleet last night, and came away with a 3-0 victory. Cortney started things off early, and headed in the first goal. Good way to send a message Ladies, and set the tone for the game. Our first half play was not always pretty, but the score remained 1-0 at the half. The second half was certainly better played with Taylor and Diana finding the back of the net. Excellent play on defense, and strong goalkeeping kept the sheet clean for the third straight game. Once the midfiled settled down, we saw much better ball distribution, and the forwards created havoc in the Saltfleet end, with several close calls. Another good effort from all of the girls, well done Falcons. Dani was injured early in the game, and will be out for a bit. Hope to have her baack soon, some very important games ahead!! Good luck in the league cup and tournament this week Falcons, and lets not forget our match against North Miss. No-one wants to beat the Falcons more than they do, be sharp for this one!!!

FALCONS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS, BEATING BRAMS BY A COMFORTABLE MARGIN!!!
 |
|
|
This week's league game had us up against the previously undefeated Brams United Twisters. With a reputation of physical play, Brams has started out the season very well, and would be a good test to see just how far the Falcons have come. The girls were able to answer that question quickly with goals from Taylor and Rachel in the first 5 minutes of play. Speed and excellent ball movement were the difference in this game. The girls were able to get behind the sizeable Brampton defenders and our own defense and goalkeeping was very solid. Dani was given her opportunity to play in central midfield and was outstanding, earning the "MOOSE" at the conclusion of the game for her dominant play in the middle. Taylor and Rachel added one more each in the second half, and Ally "stoned" them in net, letting nothing get by for her second shutout in a row. Katie, Briana, Vanessa, Kelsey, and Julie played excellent solid defence, and the depth in the middle is starting to show. Amanda (with another terrific game), Dani, Rachel, Alyysa, Diana, and Alix were on their game, making sure the ball was distributed very well and setting up many chances for themselves and the forwards. Upfront, Taylor, Cortney, Emily, and Kristal demonstrated the value of having so much speed and determination, something Brams was not able to deal with. Were it not for some great saves from the Brams keeper, this one could have ended up with a much higher score. 4-0 final score, and one step closer to the ultimate goal. Without getting into specifics, some of the players on this team had their best games all season, and all of you had outstanding games. I spoke to a number of folks after the game (including Brams people), and they all agreed, this team has excellent skill, talent, and ability, they were impressed with everyone of you!!
We are starting to see this team really come together as "a team" and they are now playing that way. All the girls have raised their level of effort, and quality of play. That's in no small part the result of their efforts and attendance at practices. The co-operative play is getting so much better everytime they take to the field. I think I speak for all that watched the game this week that it is really fun to watch this team as they play smarter soccer and a nice tactical game. Ladies, you deserve all the credit for that. Sure, there's always areas that can be improved upon, but it doesn't happen overnight, and not without hard work and focused effort on your part. You are starting to see the payoff for that kind of effort. My guess is, that there are those out there taking notice of what you are doing, and they will also raise their level of play to meet this challenge you are putting out there. Let's keep on improving, and working hard at it and show them that they "ain't seen nothing yet"!!!!
Today's practice was another great example of the way this team is coming together. Despite pouring rain, I heard no complaints, saw no lack of effort or desire. And you were having fun!! It's not what you say, it's what you do that tells the story. Let's keep writing the chapters to this book, one game at a time, and if the effort and desire continue, you will be able to write the fairytail ending. There's a long way to go, but you have to take each chapter one at a time. Well done Falcons, we are very proud of you!!!!
Thanks also to Nick from the U16 Girls for stepping to assist us this week. He brings a great deal of knowledge and skill to us, and has offered to run some of our practice sessions as well, bringing another viewpoint and set of skills to our team. And thank you Sandra for all the work you do behind the scenes, stuff no-one else really knows about but things that are key to the operation of our team. We couldn't do this without you!!
Falcons Rule, the others Dr____!!!!
PS: I asked Nick to chose the Moose winner, Dani was obviously the undisputed champ in this game, but he also told me (not in so many words but rather his glowing review of each of your perfomances) after the game that he thought everyone of the Falcons had great games, and on any other day, could have also been the winner of the moose. Well done Dani, and everyone else.

Hi Falcons.
I am going to rotate the photos on the site during the next few weeks to try and get as many on the site as is possible. Due to limitations on uploads, I am limited on how many can appear at one time. You can download the individual photos but if you miss any, don't worry. Chris and Bob have accumulated so many photos for us, and we will be providing a complete photo CD for all players at the end of the season. There are so many great ones, I simply can't post them all here at one time but you will all get them. Thanks to all our photographers for the great shots, keep them coming. Enjoy!!!

GOOD PLAY FROM ALL SHOWS WHAT CAN BE DONE WHEN EVERYONE DOES THEIR PART
 |
|
|
Last night's game against Brantford was a very nice example of what this team can do when they set their minds and hearts to the task at hand. Every member of the team contributed towards the 5-0 final score thru hard work, smart play, and the never quit attitude needed to be at the top of the game. It was also very nice to have enough players and the 2 girls that played up for us were also outstanding.
Goalkeeping was a key in this game, and Ally was on her game! She won the "MOOSE" as a result. Goal scoring came from 5 players, and that also is a good sign. Kassandra, Dani, Rachel, Vanessa and Taylor all found the back of the net, and Vanessa, a defender, currently leads the team in goals scored in league play. I was pleased with the defensive play, and in the midfield, we won and were first to the ball on most occasions. When a team can put together this kind of effort, good things happen. Things went well all over the pitch, and the result shows that. Way to go Falcons!!!
I also wanted to let the Angeloff family know that the team's thoughts are with them at this difficult time. God bless and let us know if there is anything you need.

DEFENSIVE CHANGES SEEM TO BE HAVING SOME SUCCESS
Last night's game was the first time this season we tried out the changes in set up at the back and there were some very positive developments. Ball movement was much improved in the back, and there was less confusion in our end, and in the middle of the field. A step forward indeed, but still a few more things to work on. Our mid field play was also improved, with a much better effort to get to the ball first. Another positive step. Distribution of the ball from the middle was also better than it has been, with fewer balls being kicked up the middle to the keeper, and more runs down the wings. Our play in front of the opposition net was not up to par, with balls not hit very well, more blocks from us than the opponent, and frequent miss-communication and at times comical play. Except it wan't funny. Towards the end of the game, I decided to play with 10 rather than 11 players as at times we were our own worst enemy. It was not a move made by accident, we were really killing ourselves at that point. The small field and nets didn't help matters, but that's also one of the things we should work on (opening up). Open up the play ladies, we still have a tendancy to do the exact opposite, we crowd the ball and the player with the ball. How often yesterday did we have 3 of our players fighting each other for a ball? Too many I'd say.
The game served a purpose, getting some playing time in, and for the most part the Falcons controlled the ball and game, but, in the end, we couldn't put it in the net.
The only quetion I have for you ladies is this: Why do we seem so reluctant to strike the ball in anger? We have perhaps the best and strongest shooters around, all of you can hammer a ball. Why then is it that in games, we simply don't seem able to do it?
More positive news, Emily continues to recover and took the opposition apart with her attacking runs up the right side. Julie also made her first game appearance in almost 2 months. Nice to see that and it's nice to get our numbers back up and have a few more options, and Megan contiunes to support us regularily. Just remember ladies, take it slow, don't over do it.

SAY HI TO OUR FELLOW FALCONS, THE U14 GIRLS. THIS IS THEIR LINK....
http://www.eteamz.com/falcongirls95/
I AM ALSO GOING TO SWIPE A FEW GREAT QUOTES THAT I FOUND ON THEIR SITE. IF THIS IS THE APPROACH THE PLAYERS TAKE, THEY CAN'T HELP BUT SUCCEED.
"When push comes to shove, when you are truly tested against someone who is either your equal or superior, you must honestly know that you deserve to win - know that you trained harder, longer, endured more hardship, risked more of your heart. I believe this approach will sustain you in your darkest moments. I believe this feeling will allow you to look at yourself in the mirror after a loss and say that there was nothing else that you could have done. And I believe this feeling also will help you avoid having to look in that mirror very often".
Robert L. Klatte
Purdue Head Women's Soccer Coach
There are three types of players ...
Will you stand up for your team?
Will you stand up for your friends!
Will you fight the good fight?
If you will fight, all is possible!
If not now, when?
If not here, where?
If not you, then who?
Bring it.
Bring it all.
Tonight.
Tomorrow never comes.

Some reminders for this week....
Hi Falcons
Tonight's game is an exhibition game, we will see how our new defensive set up works out. Please wear the blue uniforms for the game. Tomorrow there will not be a practice, due to the game tonight. Nice turnout yesterday, we need to do that all the time. Nice to see so many participate, it's key when working on the kind of changes we want to make.
A reminder that we have an important game (yes they are ALL important) on Thursday, and are fortunate to have a few call ups coming to help out. Please remember as well that players that do not attend multiple practce sessions are not likely to get playing time in our games until such time as they are again able to practice and get caught up on what we are doing. Good ball control, game sense, fitness, and quality first touch come from practice, and are not improved upon nor learned in games. That's why we practice. Fortunately we have some callups attending Thursday's game to fill in for those MIA's. We will continue to call players up until we can get back to an consistent and acceptable turnout and effort at practices. Yesterday was a good step for quite a few of you, keep it up. Playing time will continue to be determined by a combination of effort, results, and practice attendance, especially now that we will have a few more players available to us. You have set your goals high and now it's time to see what it takes to reach those kinds of goals.

OFSAA SOCCER UPDATE!! TAYLOR SCORES WINNING GOAL IN IONA'S FIRST GAME
Hot off the soccer press, Mississauga`s Iona SS beats Colonel By SS 1-0 in their opening match, and Taylor was the lone goal scorer. Way to go Taylor and Dani, I`ll post further results as they come in from my TSN sources (and from Carol).
In their second game, Iona blanked their opponent Widdifield SS 2-0 for a perfect 1st day at the Provincial High School Championships of Soccer.
The second day of play proved to be a bit more difficult for Iona SS. They ended of tied in second place in their division, but were eliminated by to goal differential. Well done Ladies!! You represented your school and the City of Mississauga well, and did it in your first Provincial school soccer championship in your first year at high school.

FALCONS GET OUT OF LINCOLN WITH 3 POINTS THANKS TO A LATE GAME DRIVE
Talk about doing just enough, last night's game was one of those where you count your blessings, and vow never to do it that way again. The 2-1 win marked the start to our SRSL season, and it's always nice to take the points in your first game of the year. It was not a convincing win, but that's the nature of the game. A good late push by the Falcons saw Cortney and Vanessa score the 2 goals we needed to secure the points, but is wasn't always pretty. We will have to do much better is we intend to have a good season. Now that the distractions are almost done, it would be nice to see much better attendance at practices, we need to improve our "team play" and can't do that when 8-10 players decide they can make it out to team sessions.
Dani and Taylor were selected as players of the game, with a special note for Emily who was able to return for the first time in 2 months for a few shifts and looked like she is well on her way to returning to regular play after the injury. Keep up the hard work, a good example for all.

Falcons Travel To USA for the 2009 Adidas Potomac Memorial Cup, Well Done Ladies!!!
This past weekend, our Falcons participated in the 2009 Adidas Memorial Cup Tournament in Potomac Maryland. Ranked as a Premier Elite Tournament, this event is classified at the highest possible ranking for tournament play in the USA, the same level as the Disney and Schwann tournaments. What makes this event even more relevant for these ladies, they were slotted in the U19 age group rather than the U15 division that they actually play in. As the youngest team in the entire grouping, the Falcons would have their hands (and feet) full this weekend. They made us proud in every way, both on and off the field!! Proud to be Falcons, proud to represent their club, their City of Mississauga, and their country, Canada. During the tournament, I was approached by our opponents, both players and coaches, and told how impressed they were with the level of play and determination of the players on our team, despite the significant age difference and size between our girls and their opponents. Some simply couldn't believe it when I told them the age group that the girls play in in Canada. The Falcons could have won every game they played, and were great examples of Canadian Soccer.
The first game had us facing the eventual tournament finalist, and this one would be a difficult game. Despite starting out well, and having 3 excellent scoring chances early on, we did not convert and the long trip and possibly the magnitude of the event took it's toll. Our opponent took advantage of their few opportunities in the first half, and we were behind. The second half was much better for our girls but they could not overcome the first half mistakes. A game we lost but could certainly have won. Good improvement in the second half.
The second game of the day was against the U19 Long Valley Nova team, who are coached by a New Jersey College coach. Again, we started off a bit slow, and made a few early mistakes. The result were 2 easy goals early on for the Nova team. Then, we saw something special. The Falcons finally woke up, and took over the game. They began to play possession soccer late in the first half, and the flow of the game changed. The second half was all Falcons, and at one point, the Nova College Coach paid us a great compliment. He admonished his players telling them, "girls, you have not even touched the ball for over 5 minutes"!! In coaches speak, that's the highest compliment you will ever hear from an opponents coach, let alone one that coaches college players. The team came so close on numerous chances, and Taylor added a goal for the Falcons to make it 2-1. So many other chances were not converted, but it was all Falcons. A great performance. A joy to watch, regardless of the score. Even more impressive was the fact that the team had only 13 players able to play, against teams with full rosters. A few of our girls were injured but refused to quit. These were 80 minute games, and I was so proud of the girls for their determination. They refused to give up. I also want to express my gratitude to the 3 injured players that attended this tournament, knowing they could not play. They showed the true meaning of team commitment. They wanted to be there for their team, and we all benefit from that kind of dedication. Thanks Julie, Emily, and Megan, I am really proud of you for being there for us!!!
The end result was a 2-1 loss, but it didn't feel like a loss. I spoke to the opponent coach after the game. He was stunned to hear that our's was a U15 team. He praised the quality of your play, and your ability to raise your level of play. Half of the players on his team are moving on to College play with him, and I hope that puts your performance into perspective. Very well done Falcons.
The third game this weekend had up up against the West Virginia State Champs, a team that had just achieved that result 2 weeks ago. Speaking to the coach prior to the game, he praised the level of Canadian Soccer, having played Ontario teams in the recent Disney tournament and other major USA tournaments in the past year. He was also surprised to hear that we were a 94 team and had been put into an age group with the older teams. This game was another entertaining game, with excellent chances at both sides of the field. The first half ended up 0-0, and was even in every way. Ally came up with some excellent saves and the second half was very entertaining to say the least. The teams exchanged goals. Vanessa scored from a free kick, and Cortney finished it off late in the half to earn a 2-2 tie, and a great finish to the tournament.
I want to thank all the players for their wonderful contributions this weekend. Diana, Katie, Cortney, Vanessa, Brianna, Ally, Kelsey, Rachel, Amanda, Taylor, Dani, Alyssa, and Kristal all gave it their very best. With the support of Emily, Megan, and Julie, the team was able to put on an impressive performance. I am proud of all of you for making this kind of commitment, and I think that as a bonus, you all had a great time this week. You were able to visit The Whitehouse, The Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial, The Smithsonian's, The National Cathedral, The Canadian Embassy, The Pentagon, The Jefferson Monument, The Arlington National Cemetary, Kennedy's Grave Site, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Rolling Thunder, The Watergate Hotel, and so many other amazing sites of world importance, and multiple shopping malls as well. What a terrific experience for all of you. It was not just a soccer trip but a great educational trip as well.
I also want to thank all the parents for their support in making this trip come true. It took alot of work, and I hope you also see the incredible value that this trip has offered the girls. Soccer and education, go figure. Thanks again folks, it was an amazing trip!!!

LOOK OUT USA, HERE COME THE FALCONS!!!!
The Falcons are off to the Potomac Adidas Memorial Cup Championship in Maryland, USA this week. This tournament is ranked as a Premier Elite event, the highest possible ranking for American Soccer Tournaments. The girls will have a difficult task, having been slotted into the U19 age group, despite being a U15 team. With approximately 200 US college and University scouts attending, this will be a great opportunity for these girls to show their talent and ability.
Good luck ladies, enjoy the trip and tournament, it should be a fun time and big challenge for all of you.
I will post results during the trip and photos as well.

FIRST GAME OF THE 2009 SEASON LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AWAY
With less than 2 weeks till the start of the season, and 2 tournaments between then and now, it will be a busy few weeks. The pre season games are now completed as well. We hope to have the track suits soon, at which time our kits will also be complete.
We still have 1 opening on the team, and could probably use an additional player. If you know of someone that may help us out, let me know. We could use a player that can play at this level, and if they are interested in helping out as a second keeper, that would be even better. Talk to your friends, and call me if someone comes to mind. We will be getting some help from a few call ups as well, playing with 11 or 12 has just been too difficult lately.

“THE FALCON”
Since making its debut in 2004, “The Falcon” has fast become one of the most sought after trophies in the province. Weighing in at over 10 pounds, champions of all age groups at both the Mississauga International Tournament (May) and Mississauga All-Star Tournament (August) are awarded “The Falcon”. Such is its building reputation, that an under 7 boys team won “The Falcon” in 2004 and proudly displayed it at their clubhouse in southern Ontario. In December of that year, their clubhouse was broken into and the only items stolen were two trophies with “The Falcon” being one of them! Good luck to all teams in their quest to win the “The Falcon” this year at the 26th annual Mississauga International Tournament.

SICK OR INJURED? SOME THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND.
One of the most difficult things for an injured youth player to do is to stay involved with the team while not being able to participate in training. Unfortunately, too many players, if they are not able to participate in training, choose to not attend practice at all.
The problem with not attending practices while injured is while the other players are learning and improving, the injured player falls further behind both physically as well as tactically. The other problem with the injured player not attending practices is that while the team is spending more and more time together bonding,
There are many things an injured player can do during training sessions (depending upon the injury of course). They might be able to do some rehab work, some fitness work (for example if the injury if to the ankle, they might be able to some abs work etc). Also, they can help the coach
set up the field for the various activities. Not only does this show the other players that you are willing to help any way you can but also it will help with interaction between the player and the coach.
If the injured player is able to do more effective rehab work somewhere else (at a physical therapists or a gym for example) it makes sense for them to do that but if not, they should attend practice whenever possible.
Please note this is for injured players as opposed to sick players. If a player is sick, they shouldn't be at training because it doesn't do anyone any good for the sick person to get sicker or to get the other players sick.
Injured players who attend training and pay attention will get a whole lot more out of it than if they sit at home doing nothing. Plus they can work on rehab, stay up with tactical adjustments and stay involved with team bonding.
Please also be aware that injured players that attend practice can become a distraction and disruptive to the players and coaching session if not properly supervised.

TAYLOR WINS THE TFC TICKETS. HAVE FUN, BE INSPIRED, AND BRING IT TO SUNDAY'S GAME.
Taylor scored our goal last night, and was chosen to make the pick for the TFC tickets. Go figure, she picked her ticket, and gets to attend the game at BMO this Sunday. Congrats, have fun, and I'm sure you will be pumped up for our game afterward.
If I get more tickets in the future, we can do this again.
The uniforms have arrived, and will be handed out this Sunday. Please show up early if you want your uniform for the game. I will be at Huron 1 hour prior to kick-off to hand out the kits.
I will also start tracking attendance points here on the web site. In past years, I used the following formula. Players earn 3 points for attending sessions/games and arriving on time. 2 points if arriving late but before start of the session, and 1 point if arriving after the start of the session. 0 points for not attending, and there is also provision for not notifying about absences. We have been keeping track of these things for some time, and you should use this as a tool to see how you are living up to your commitment to your team. During the course of the season, we will have optional practice sessions which are used to earn bonus points and make up points.
Any questions can be directed to me.

2009 TEAM CAPTAINS ARE SELECTED, WHAT A CLOSE RACE
THIS SEASON'S CAPTAINS WERE CHOSEN AT LAST NIGHT'S PRACTICE. WHAT A CLOSE RACE, WITH MULTIPLE TEAM MEMBERS GETTING MULTIPLE VOTES. IT EVENTUALLY CAME DOWN TO 4 MEMBERS OF THE TEA THAT HAD SECURED THE MOST VOTES. IN THE END, 2 VOTES SEPARATED THE TOP 4 SELECTIONS.
IT SHOWED ME JUST HOW STRONG THE LEADERSHIP AND COMMITMENT IS ON THIS TEAM. SOME OF THE PLAYERS THAT DIDN'T WIN THE VOTE HAVE SHOWN INCREDIBLE DEVOTION, BUT WE CAN'T HAVE 11 CAPTAINS. WELL DONE ALL OF YOU!!!!!
IN THE END, THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS WERE SELECTED AS TEAM CAPTAINS: 1) VANESSA, 2) KATIE, 3) JULIE, AND, (4 RACHEL. WELL DONE ALL OF YOU.
NOW A NOTE FOR THE CAPTAINS: REMEMBER WHAT THIS MEANS. YOU HAVE ACCEPTED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE ON YOUR TEAM. BE ON TIME, DON'T BE THE LAST ONE TO SHOW UP AT EVENTS, DON'T BE THE ONE THAT DOESN'T SHOW UP FOR EVENTS AND CALLS AT THE LAST MINUTE WITH SOME EXCUSE. YOU SET THE EXAMPLE, AND SHOULD SET THE BEST EXAMPLE. THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CAPTAIN, AND NOTHING LESS WILL DO!!
GREAT CHOICES FALCONS, I AGREE WITH THE SELECTIONS YOU MADE, AND RELY ON THE CAPTAINS TO DO THEIR THING.
3 WEEKS TILL REAL SOCCER GIRLS, AND STILL MUCH WORK TO DO!!!!

FINAL TEAM SELECTIONS NOW UNDERWAY, IF INTERESTED IN A TRYOUT, NOW'S THE TIME
We are in the last stages of putting together the final team roster. There are currently 2 openings on the team for the 2009 season. If you think you have what it takes to be an Elite level player, and can help this team reach the next level, please contact the coach at bmw535i@3web.com, or the Mississauga Soccer Club and ask for the tryout information. We will not be conducting any further formal tryout sessions. Qualified players will be asked to attend and participate in the team's practice sessions. We are specifically interested in a field player that can also cover as a backup goaltender. The prospective player would be expected to cover for our keeper in case of injury or holiday only, and would otherwise play a position in the field. All players on this team are expected to learn and be able to play a variety of positions on the field.
If you think you have what it takes, why not give it a try. All prospective player's history and experience will be checked, We are looking for the right combination of skill, commitment, and harmony to fit into this already excellent team.
"Remember, failing to practice is practicing to fail!"
Wise word Ladies. I know it's not always possible to attend practices due to other obligations. Don't forget though that you also have an obligation to your team and teammates. It's not a big issue for most but a few players have missed more practices lately than they have attended. That puts me in a difficult spot because I do owe it to the rest of the team to reward those attending regularily with more game playing time. That's only fair. Do your best, that's all I ask. We are a better team the more often we can work together.
If you're sick, don't come. If you are injured, please try to attend as often as possible or you will find yourselves losing touch with what we are doing and working on. Our keeper can always use your help as can your coach.

Team Rocks in New York State
The girls played in the Sahlens tournament this weekend, and what a pleasure it was to see the team out there. Placed in what the organizer of the tournament described as the toughest division in the tournament, the girls came away with 2 wins, and a tie game, finishing tied for top spot in points. Despite not giving up a single goal, with a plus 4 differential, it was not quite enough. They were eliminated from participation in the final on goal differential as our opponent in the first game ended up with a plus 5. Did it matter? Not really. The girls were fantastic, and everyone was just amazed at the great effort and commitment these players showed. The team went home earning a 0-0 tie, 3-0 victory and 1-0 victory. A wonderful result, no matter how you look at it. More details and photos to follow once I get home.
Well done ladies!!!!

Nikki had the opportunity to discuss goalkeeping methods tactics with Craig Forrest before last night's MLS all-star game. As I'm sure she has already told everyone, she also came within a few feet of Beckham, she has the video, and it was an excellent game as well.

FA launch grass-roots ref respect scheme
click on the link to read the story. Really more of an issue for coaches to pay attention to. Just posting this as a matter of interest to those involved in referee stuff.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=468848&cc=5901
FA chief executive Brian Barwick is to launch a major grass-roots pilot scheme aimed at getting players to show more respect to referees. The organisation is alarmed at the growing trend of abuse towards officials, and realises that unless drastic action is taken, a drop-off in the number of people willing to take up whistle-blowing duties will cause major problems for the game as a whole.
