Falcons win 1-0! EK Advances to Final Four Friday, March 9th @ 8:30 p.m. Sophomore Sensation, Jeff Sanders, scored the lone goal with a deflection off the Lake Orion defense strategically angled into the net. Honestly though, Lake Orion played a strong game with 18 shots on Sophomore Goalie, Zach Bresko, registering the win and shut-out. Hats off to the Lake Orion goalie who saved 37 of 38 shots. Good luck Falcons against OLSM. It's definitely going to be a great game. Best wishes to all Final Four Teams. EK, Mona Shores, and GRCC are all representing D1,D2, and D3 proudly! Go Westside! One game at a time, see you at Compuware!
East Kentwood WINS 6-4 REGIONAL CHAMPIONS! The Falcons continued with one game at a time and brought home the Regional Championship Trophy to Kentwood. The Falcons won 6-4 and sent Howell packing. The Falcons outshot the Highlanders 33-22. Sophomore Goalie, Ben Belton, stopped 18 of the 22 shots sent his way. The East Kentwood team rebounded from a 1-0 deficit when Senior Captain, Eric Alexander buried the puck with a wristshot, from a pass by Jared Breuker and Ben Dykstra assisting. Kentwood took the lead when Junior, Tyler Copeland scored on the powerplay, assisted by Jeff Sanders and Jared Breuker. The Highlanders tied the game 2-2 to end the period by scoring on a powerplay. The Falcons took some penalties losing a bit of focus after an injury to Alexander, going down 3-2. Not for long though when Senior, Jeff Slusser, put the biscuit in the net with the help of Zach Fowler making it 3-3. Next Senior Captain, Aric Geerlings, with the help of Jimmy Scullion's screen put the Falcons back in the lead 4-3. Just 31 seconds later, the Falcons still on the powerplay, Eric Alexander, roofed it and gave the Falcons what would be the winning goal and made it 5-3. Howell put the pressure on and cut the lead to 5-4, and pulled their goalie. Senior, Ben Dykstra, answered to the call and put the empty netter in with 39 seconds remaining to secure the win, assisted by Alexander. Nice job Falcons! Great Regional Championship and Best Wishes in Okemos on Wednesday vs Lake Orion at 7:00 p.m. Final Score: 6-4.
EAST KENTWOOD FALCONS OK TIER ONE CONFERENCE CHAMPS! Friday, February 3rd @ 7:00 p.m. was a meeting between two great teams, determining if the Falcons would share their Conference Championship with rival Mona Shores. The Result: Falcons refuse to share and WIN 4-2. The Sailors came out strong and with a hard fought first period, they put the first biscuit in the net, ending it in the lead 1-0. East Kentwood showed their best period in the second when Senior Captains, Aric Geerlings and Eric Alexander both scored a goal to take the falcons to the locker room at the end of the 2nd period with a 2-1 lead. The 3rd period brought the game winner by Ben Dykstra and a another goal by Eric Alexander to clinch the 4-2 win. The game winning goalie was Ben Belton, who showed a play-off level of competition. Great job Ben! A game that would be the last time 27 seniors would play each other in their high school hockey career was ended with respect and long lasting friendships each team will value. Best wishes to the Sailors in play-offs and we hope that we can both meet up at Compuware to cheer each other on at the Final Four. Best Wishes!
