Escambia rides Richardson to win

The Washington Wildcats tried their best to make another second-half comeback win, as they did last Friday against Tate.
Last week they didn't have to tackle Trent Richardson who led Escambia to a 40-20 win.
With the momentum clearly in Washington's favor, Escambia was faced with a pivotal third-and-9 with five minutes remaining. Richardson showed why he is considered one of the best running backs this area has produced.
Taking a sweep off the right side, Richardson made a quick cut, broke a tackle, and killed the Wildcats' chances of a comeback.
"Coach (Nichols) told us we need a first down, I told him give me the ball, I can make the play," said Richardson, who finished with 288 yards on 30 carries. "The o-line held did their assignments and we got what we needed."
Just five plays and 46 yards later, Richardson punched in his fourth touchdown of the game, sealing the Gators' 40-20 win over the Wildcats at Emmitt Smith Field.
"This is a big game for us, we need to build on this," Richardson said. "To be honest, there are so many good teams right now, it's almost like playing in the (South Eastern Conference). We have to forget about this and focus on next game."
Even on the soggy field, Escambia dominated the first half, scoring on five touchdowns in the first half on just seven possessions.
Because of Thursday's thunderstorms, the maintenance crew had blowers on the field just a few hours before kick off.
"I'm going to be honest, we were all slipping," Richardson said, who dropped a pass on the first play of the game after losing his footing. "I went ahead and changed cleats after that first series, it helped, but it was still pretty slick out there."
Washington's first half couldn't have gone any worse, losing three fumbles in the first half, including one on each of their first two possessions of the game.
Thanks to a pair of late Washington touchdowns, including Milton Hendrieth's 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the Wildcats were down 33-12 at halftime.
"I told these guys at halftime, they (Washington) came back against Tate last week. They don't give up," Nichols said. "We were lucky to get the win tonight. He (Richardson) showed what makes him so great."
Junior Marqise Parker started the second half for Washington at quarterback, and was able to hold the ball for over 17 minutes in the second half, keeping Richardson and Escambia's offense on the sideline.
The Gators (4-3, 1-1) only had two possessions in the second half, putting all the pressure on a fatigued Gator defense.
"I'm extremely disappointed in the way our defense played in the second half," Nichols said. "In a game like this you need to score, and you have to have the ball in order to score."
