Escambia High Gators: Schedules and Varsity Game Summary

Escambia gets by Rutherford for first win of season
From PNJ staff reports

First-year Escambia High football coach Willie Spears will always remember his first win with the Gators.

On the road against his alma mater Rutherford, Spears’ Gators (1-2) blew past the Rams with more than 400 yards of total offense and three touchdowns en route to a 21-10 victory.
“We’re getting better each week,” Spears said. “It was a great victory for us.”
The stats tell the story.
Running back Danikiee Hollowell exploded for 202 yards on 29 carries with a 2-yard breakthrough score in the third quarter.
Hollowell has been one of the Gators’ most consistent performers and now has 348 yards rushing on the season.
Quarterback Jacob Durant connected on 10-of-18 passes for 124 yards and his first two touchdown passes of the season.
“We’re all real excited to get this win” Spears said on the long bus ride back to Pensacola. “The boys worked their butts off and our coaching staff did a great job.”
A 26-yard pass to Gerald Bright got things started for Escambia in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Durant found Shaquille Rogers on an 8-yard pass to put the Gators up 14-7 at the half.
Hollowell’s score in the third quarter widened the gap and Escambia’s defense held Rutherford scoreless through the fourth.
“It’s one I’ll never forget,” Spears said.
Escambia travels to Tate to open District 1-6A play next week.
The Gators defeated the Aggies 24-22 to open district play in 2011.
