Escambia High Gators:Schedules and Varsity Game Summary

Escambia High Gators

West Florida makes history with win over Escambia
West Florida High made history on Friday night as the Jaguars unveiled their new spread offense during a 30-21 win against Escambia at Woodham Middle School.
The win was the first in West Florida's history over another Pensacola program.
"This is huge. It's something we never talked a whole lot about, but we knew it was there," said second-year West Florida coach Harry Lees. "We never could get over that hurdle. We took a big step tonight."
Jaguars quarterback Kyle Faxlanger got things started as he connected with Ty Peasant on a 15-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead with 3:36 to play in the first quarter. West Florida eventually stretched its advantage to 23-8 at halftime as Luke Jackson converted a 23-yard field goal, Jalen Jones ripped off a 13-yard scoring run and Faxlanger found Lawrence Lee on a 15-yard TD strike in the second quarter.
Jones finished with 116 rushing yards, 50 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Faxlanger had a monster of a season-opener in the Jaguars' new spread offense, finishing 21-of-37 passing for over 270 yards with two touchdowns passing and one rushing.
"He (Faxlanger) has done a great job," Lees said. "He's handled it (the new offense) and made good checks and is a leader out there."
All of Escambia's points in the first half came via its special teams as Marcel Kidd exploded for a 99-yard kickoff return.
Escambia cut the lead to 23-15 on its second possession of the second half. The drive was set up by a blocked punt by Marquis Catchings. Sophomore quarterback Dakota Bartley then connected with Stanley Tart for a 45-yard catch and run into the end zone.
At the 6:24 mark of the fourth quarter, West Florida added some insurance when Faxlanger kept the snap for a 7-yard touchdown run for a 30-15 lead. Tart caught a 3-yard pass just as time expired, making the final score 30-21.
Nearly in tears, Lees said, "I just feel blessed. We have a bunch of great kids who have bought in. I can't say enough about these guys and these coaches. I'm so proud of them."
