Bat Specifications and Procedures for 2013 Season

Bat Specs and Procedures - revised 5/16/12

Bat Specs:

For Kindergarten – 7th Grades:  As of the 2012 season, all non-wood baseball bats (aluminum, composites and others) used in EGCLLA play shall be imprinted with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less.  Bats with a BPF higher than 1.15 or bats without a legible BPF label printed on the bat are not permitted for use.  Bats with the BBCOR certification label (BBCOR .50) are also legal in K-7th grades.

For 8th-9th Grades:  As of the 2012 season, all non-wood baseball bats used in EGCLLA play must have the BBCOR certification label (BBCOR .50) to be legal.

Illegal bats are not to be used in EGCLLA play.

Coaches are expected to monitor the bats that their players want to use and should not allow illegal bats to be used.

Umpires are expected to inspect the bats in each dugout prior to the game and set aside illegal bats and tell the coach that those bats are not to be used.  During the pre-game meeting, the umpires are to tell each coach to make sure that his players use legal bats.

If an illegal bat is brought into the batter’s box then the offender will be called out.  If it is discovered after an at bat where the ball was hit and runners advanced, then the batter is called out and all runners must return to their original bases.

Reminder on Procedures for Coaches

Here is a reminder on these procedures that are listed in the Coaches Handbook:

Game Results for Team Standings (Grades 4 - 9 only): It is the winning coach's responsibility to provide the game results to their league chairman in order to maintain league standings.  In case of a tie the home team's coach should report the game results to the league chairman.  The league chairmen's email addresses and phone numbers are on the coaches / sponsors list.  We would prefer that you use email if possible.  The information that needs to be reported includes the date of the game, field played on, team number of the winning team, team number of the losing team, and your team's current record.  If the game ended in a tie, then leave that message along with the team numbers of the teams involved.  Please use the team numbers and not the team sponsor names.  Games that are not reported within 7 days of the game date will be recorded as a loss for both teams.  A sample form is on the Handouts page in the Coaches section.

Game Reports for the Edwardsville Intelligencer: It is the winning coach's responsibility to provide the game report to the Intelligencer or it will not appear in the paper.  Write a short game summary including team names, score, and the names of players who performed well for both teams.  Please be sure that you put the team sponsor's name in the paper correctly. Email the report to broseberry@edwpub.net or you can also fax the game report to the Intelligencer at 659-1677 (Attention: Sports).   A sample form is on the Handouts page in the Coaches section.

Rainout Procedures During Game Schedule Only (not during the practice schedule): The phone number for all rainout information is 656-6148.Rainout information will be available after 5:00 pm on weekdays and after 9:00 am on Saturdays.

Time Limits / Games Running Over

Coaches:

On Saturdays when we are playing 5 or 6 games in a row, the games later in the day may start a little later than the scheduled start time if earlier games ran over or didn't start on time.

Please do your best to:

Start games on time.

Stick to the time limits.

Be courteous to the teams playing before you and after you.

Please use common sense, be courteous to each other and be willing to be a little flexible.

Also, please ask your players to put all litter in the trash cans and please pick up any litter that is left in your dugout after your game.

Parking and Littering Issues

We are asking that all coaches and parents please observe and obey all parking restrictions around all of the ball fields.

Please do not block driveways or park in restricted areas that are reserved for other uses.

Also please do not litter in the parks or in the surrounding neighborhoods.

We ask that you are courteous to those living near the ball fields and respect their property.

No Practicing on City Softball Fields

Announcement from the City of Edwardsville Parks Department:

Baseball teams are not allowed to practice on City fields designated for softball use.  If you are practicing baseball on any of the softball fields, you will be asked to leave.

The fields designated for softball use are the ball fields at Vadalabene Park and the ball fields at the Winston Brown Sports Complex in lower Hoppe Park.

Also the City states that baseball teams are not allowed to practice at any field not designed for that specific sport and age group.  It is a matter of safety that baseball teams only practice on baseball fields and only on those with age-appropriate fence distances.
