A LETTER FROM The PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD:

On behalf of the East Greenbush Castleton Youth Baseball League board of directors, we want to welcome you to the 2013 Little League baseball season.  In our opinion, there really is no better time of the year as we transition from the cold and wintry weather and move into Spring, Summer and the opportunity to get out and play BASEBALL.  This happens to be an extra special year for our League as we celebrate the 60th  season of Little League baseball in East Greenbush and Castleton.  As a board, we are very fortunate to be a part of this milestone.

Before we share some of the key events coming up this year and improvements made to the League, we want to first thank all of you who have donated their time, money and/or energy to make this League what it is today.  We have a thriving program of more than 450 children, approximately 40 teams and, if similar to past years, we will have over 250 volunteers who offer their time to enhance the baseball experience for our children.  It is a quite an impressive effort and operation and one we should all be very proud of.

In addition to thanking our families, we would be remiss not to thank all of our sponsors, local companies who donate their time and work, our local dignitaries and those of you who continue to contribute to the League without children participating.  Without all of your support, we would not be able to provide the program we strive to develop every year.

The 2013 board officially began working and planning for this season in October of 2012.  As the president of the board, I’m very thankful for the time and energy that the other 21 board members have dedicated to the League. We are all very excited to announce some key improvements and offerings for the league this year:

  • The local 7 plumbers union dedicated their time and efforts to improve the shared softball and Little League bathrooms.  We have added additional stalls and separated the women’s and men’s rooms.

  • The concession stand now has an additional fryer, a new popcorn maker, a new menu and a new grilled cheese entrée. We hope you appreciate the additional options and improved service.

  • A new fence has been constructed around the International Field.

  • We have purchased new software that has allowed us to post the recreational baseball schedule online.  In addition, we have added both a Facebook and a Twitter page to allow you to stay better connected with the league.  We encourage you to “like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.  Just search for “East Greenbush Castleton Youth Baseball” on either site.

  • Field preparation – we have added additional picnic tables, new sod, fixed the bleachers, and countless hours have been spent on the fields continuing to make them the most well maintained fields in the area.

  • We had a clinic filled off season during which we offered coaching and kid’s clinics throughout the winter months.  We hope your children and our coaches were able to attend and prepare for the new season.

  • Through the effort of the board, we will be offering our children and parents a year book which will capture the scenes and activities of the season.  There will be more details to follow on this initiative.

  • We have improved our fundraising activities including working with “World’s Finest Chocolate,” offering apparel sales online and setting up our local coin drop activities at Wal-Mart.  These additional sponsorship activities will help create needed revenue to fund special projects we are considering such as improvement to the bleachers, parking area, etc.

Lastly, we have several key events we would like to highlight to you as we begin the season:

Picture Night at Goff on Wednesday April 17th.

  • Opening Day / Parade at the Gilligan Fields on Saturday April 20th - Meet at Genet at 7:30 am!

  • “Extra” Baseball including our Sunday Travel baseball program through Empire Baseball League and all Little League supported All Star program announced June 15th.

  • End of the year picnic – date to be determined.

  • We hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming season and events we have planned.   However, as always, it is important that we remind ourselves why we offer these programs and volunteer to the League … It is for the opportunity for our children to develop their baseball skills, practice good sportsmanship, make long lasting friendships and, most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!!!

We certainly hope that all of the efforts of the community of people who work hard to make this League great will enable us to have a safe, rewarding and enjoyable season for all involved.

Let’s play ball!!
