You will NOT be receiving a mailed registration package. All base registration fees have been reduced by $10 per player. The sibling discount ($10) and non-resident fee ($15) remain the same.

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD

To register your child, go to http://ecyb.clubspaces.com and click on the "New Player" button under "New Registration" on the right side of the page. (If you find yourself of ECYB's main Clubspaces page, click on "Registration" near the top middle part of the page.) Go through the various menus that come up to provide ECYB with:

~ Parent / Guardian contact information
~ A password of your choosing
~ Payment information
~ Emergency contacts (including physician, dentist and insurance information)
~ Volunteer signup preferences

Please note: After completing online registration, you are required to supply ECYB by mail with the additional items listed below. You will receive complete instruction for submitting these items at the end of the online registration process.

~ A Parent Participant Fee deposit check
~ Uniform deposit check(s) if applicable
~ Signed Liability Waiver, Authorization for Treatment, and Parent Code of Conduct form(s)
~ Proof of age for players new to the league.

VOLUNTEER HOURS INFORMATION

ECYB continues to experience a shortage of volunteers to perform necessary tasks. To ensure the success of the league we need more parents to volunteer their time. To encourage your participation and to cover the costs of paying for services that should be performed by volunteers, the league imposes a parent participation fee/deposit of $150 to be paid at the time of registration. However, as before, we will not cash that check until January 31, 2009 and even then won't do so if by that date you have volunteered and been selected by the Board to perform certain league-level jobs noted on the online volunteer form. Even if we have cashed the check, you will be refunded that amount at the end of the season if you have fulfilled your volunteer hours requirement by that time. See the league's web site at www.ecyb.org for details on the volunteer hours requirement.

(ECYB requires each family to perform 10* hours of work, at least 5 of which must be met by performing league-level jobs. There will be many opportunities pre-season, as well as during the season, to participate in activities which will meet the volunteer requirement. Information on these activities will be communicated via email and posted to the ECYB website.)

* Shetland-only families may meet volunteer requirements with 6 total hours, 3 at the league level.

Parents are responsible for working with their team business managers to get in the requisite team volunteer hours; fulfillment of the league requirement is the responsibility of each family. Over the course of the season, there will be ample opportunity to volunteer at the league level. Check back frequently to see new job postings. If you have any questions or volunteer project suggestions, please email Volunteer Coordinator Shannon Dowling at

[Printing Out Team Game Schedules, continued...]:

To print out a schedule of your team's games, left click on the
"Teams" entry in the menu list at left. From your team's
division, left click on your team's name. When your team's
web site comes up, click on the "Schedules" entry in the menu
list on the left side of that page. Then, when your team schedule comes up
(or at least the last and next five games on the schedule), left click
where it says "+ Printable Schedule" in the upper right corner
of the page (as shown on the diagram at left). This will bring up a list
of all of your team's games and prompt you to print it out.

[Shetland Baseball, continued...]:

We will be dividing our total of 60 players into 4 PRACTICE GROUPS (called Group “E”, Group “C”, Group “Y” and Group “B”). These will be season-long Practice Groups which will allow scheduling of field times – these do not represent team designations.

Every Saturday there will be 2 Shetland Sessions at Tassajara, 11-1pm and 1-3pm. Each Shetland Session will include 2 of the Practice Groups (25 – 30 players), with Practice Groups rotated each weekend so that the player mix changes. Every player will either be in the 11:00 or 1:00
Session each Saturday, as the Groups rotate. Here is the schedule:

Each Session will begin with 45 minutes – 1 hour of practice drills in
which all players from the 2 Practice Groups participate together. The
final hour of each session will begin with coaches choosing 2 scrimmage
teams which will play BASEBALL!.

Shetland rules vary from other ECYB Division rules, as they are designed for largely non-competitive teaching of basic Baseball fundamentals.

- Coaches will determine, on an ongoing basis, which players are best suited for Tee hitting, and which get Coach pitching, or a combination of the two

- There are no strike outs by batters

- All umpiring is done by the coaches on the field

- While plays are made to teach getting “OUTS”, there is not the same rules for 3 OUTS ending an inning

- Every attempt is made to get every player up to bat as many times as possible

- Batting line-ups include all players, with enough rotation to try and
get every player a “HOME RUN” periodically

- In this inaugural season for Shetland, we expect to be adjusting certain
procedures and rules as we progress, in order to make this the best
teaching environment possible.
MOST IMPORTANT, WE ARE ALL GOING TO HAVE
FUN!!!

Equipment:
Each player will receive a Shetland Uniform shirt and Hat. The only required equipment will be a Baseball Glove. Bats, helmets and other equipment will be provided Cleats are allowed, but optional, as are Baseball pants, cups, sox, etc. It is recommended that bats and other equipment not be purchased before
consulting with coaches on what size and weight is appropriate. Tassajara
Park
is located off Barrett below Arlington. Turn South on Tassajara
off of Barrett and field is located on the lower level, behind and below
Play Structures and Tennis Courts. Here's a map to the field.

[All-Stars, continued...]:

The summer is fast approaching, and it is time for players who are interested being considered for post season All-Star play to submit their applications. This application is designed to solicit interest and availability of ECYB players who wish to be considered for post-season All-Star play. To be considered for a post-season All-Star Play, please register your player on clubspaces (ecyb.clubspaces.com) by Tuesday May 19th. After May 19th, the registration will close, and your player will not be eligible for consideration for All-Star Play with ECYB. Please note that this year we are only accepting applications through registration on Clubspaces.

To refresh your memory on how to use the system for registration:

1) go to the website: ecyb.clubspaces.com

2) Click on "Client Login" in the lower right corner

3 You will login using the email address and password you used to register your player for the Spring.

Once you log in, you will be able to register your child for consideration for Post-Season All-Star play. Once you complete the registration process, you will receive a confirmation email. If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact our registrar. Becky Price at bprice57@comcast.net. There is no fee associated with submitting the application, however, the ECYB Board reserves the right to establish a fee for selected players to cover the league costs for Post-Season All-Star play.

ECYB generally fields Post-Season All-Star teams to compete in tournaments throughout the Bay Area during the summer months. Generally, two teams (Red and Blue) are selected in Pinto, Mustang, and Bronco. The Pony division generally has only one team. Shetland does not participate in post season play. Depending on the manager’s interest, all divisions except for Pinto have the option for the All Star team to compete in the Sanctioned PONY Tournament. Depending on interest among players and manager commitment, there is also the option to field a third “rookie” post-season tournament team in the Pinto and Mustang divisions.

All Star team practices begin immediately following the playoffs in mid-June and could continue through mid-August, depending on the tournament schedule.

Qualified players are eligible to play on any of the teams – please see the ECYB website (www.ecyb.org) for more detail. Each team will consist of 12 players and will be selected by the team managers and division president in accordance with ECYB rules. Please be mindful that your submission of this application does not mean that your child will be selected to one of the All-Star teams. Players will be selected based on baseball talent, attitude and ability to contribute to a successful team. Parents should not, therefore, advise their children that they will be selected to one of the teams simply because this application is submitted.

All-Star play requires a significant time commitment during the summer months. Practices are held 2-3 times a week and tournament play involves traveling on the weekends and on weeknights. For this reason, it is important that players and parents understand that this is a serious commitment of time and energy. Being unavailable for some portion of the summer (because of vacation) does not disqualify a player from All Star play. However, in order to plan for absences, it is necessary that you tell us on the application any dates your child will be unavailable.

If selected, the player/family agrees to invest the required time, energy and expense to be a full time team member. This commitment should not be taken lightly.

The Post-Season All-Star teams will be announced in June.

[Dick Bloomer Award, continued...]:

The selection process was as follows: Each team’s PCA Representative reviewed the season and submitted one player’s name (two players from the two Pony teams) for consideration to board secretary Mary Reid; she created a ballot for each division and emailed the ballots back to the PCA Rep for each team. The PCA Rep printed the ballots and passed them out to the Rep's team's players to vote for the outstanding player within their division. The players voted and were encouraged to make their choices based on the criteria listed above. The honorees will be notified and asked to come to receive their award at a ceremony following the championship game for their division.
