All Star FAQ: Introduction
Please note: The ECYB summer all-star rules were revised in 2007. Although the ECYB Board believes that the following FAQs are consistent with the new rules, in the event of an inconsistency, the rules govern.

ECYB summer all-star baseball is an opportunity for a select group of kids who have played in ECYB during the regular season to play more baseball on a team with other ECYB kids who exhibit—in the estimation of the managers—a high level of baseball skill, ability, and sportsmanship. ECYB summer all-star baseball is open only to those children who were registered and participated in the regular (current) ECYB season.

Players, coaches, and managers for ECYB summer all-star teams are not chosen until the end of the regular season—until all of the managers have had an opportunity to see all of the kids in action and after the managers have had an opportunity to interact with the kids and with each other. Team formation usually begins sometime between June 1 and June 15.

Summer all-star ball is typically not played locally and consists of a series of tournaments that are held in and around the Bay Area. (El Cerrito does not have the resources to host a tournament.) There are tournaments in Fremont, Pittsburg, San Carlos, Concord, Millbrae, and a number of other nearby cities. Some of the tournaments are open to more than one division (e.g., Pinto, Mustang, and Bronco) so Pinto, Mustang, and Bronco teams may all wind up at one tournament. Some cities, like San Anselmo, hold a series of tournaments throughout the summer, each open only to a specific age bracket.
