ECYB Golf Tournament
The ECYB Annual Golf Tournament was held on May 19th at Tilden Park Golf Course and it was a beautiful day.
This was the second year that we played a parent/child scramble format on the front nine. We had 18 parent-child teams. Kids under 12 years old could play from the gold tees and had to use at least four of their drives. Interesting to note that the gold tees were generously placed so that unless the adults hit excellent drives the gold tees were in better starting position and so the kids drives were used and made a difference. All in all it was a great day. The kids had fun and got to play with adults on a real course in a real tournament, and in some cases they managed to outplay their parents...! (And, we raised funds for ECYB) Please plan on coming and joining us next year.
Thanks to our generous sponsors: Dara O'Farrell donated a two night stay at his house in Truckee. Both the Berkeley YMCA and the Hilltop YMCA donated memberships for our silent auction and the Hilltop YMCA also donated a week at day camp. Sun Microsystems donated several cases of titleist golf balls that we used for prizes. Tilden donated a twosome and range ball certificates for prizes. Most important: thanks to Andy Vamis for once again successfully running the tournament, and to his assistants: Charlie Barreloni, Natalie Barreloni and Kelly Vamis.
Awards Mark Langermann: Adult longest drive
O’Farrell: Youth longest drive
Charlie Barreoni: Closest to the pin on hole #4: 6'8" Barreoni Jr and D’Esposito : Youth Closest to the pin on hole #4:
Lowest team score with child under 15 years old: Nine hole score: 46 O’Farrell (father and son)
Lowest team score with child under 10 years old: Nine hole score: 37 D'Esposito (father and son)
Lowest twosome score with child 8 years old and under: Nine hole score: 39 DeMay (father and son)
Lowest twosome score of any age: Nine hole score: nine hole score of 37 D’Esposito (father and son)
Special mention for Bradley (father and son): Nine hole score of 42
Division participation award: Pinto Division (the Padres had three twosomes and the Bears had two twosomes)
