VOLUNTEER HOURS INFORMATION

From ECYB President Mike McMullen
March 9
Hello to all ECYB members. It looks like we have had a little break in the weather since my last note and we have posted 2-3 games worth of results in most of the divisions while Shetland has just started and Pony starts in a couple of weeks. So far it looks like things are going to be very competitive across all divisions. The kids appear to be having alot of fun. The first few games are always a little interesting as the players get a sense of their new teammates and acquaint themselves back to baseball.
My note today concerns more about you than the baseball this time. Many of you are aware that ECYB is essentially run by a board made up of volunteers from the membership. Most of us started out just like you. We had players on teams, maybe we were coaching or volunteering and something sparked our interest about getting more involved. Somehow we found ourselves meeting on a regular basis and taking on some sort of league responsibility.
As with most boards of this sort, there is a shelf life. Our players grow up and move on to interests either within baseball or outside and there are open postions created as we move along with them. This year I would like to solicit new participation on the board prior to these positions becoming open. I think it would be much better for someone who thought they might have an interest to come join us for some of the meetings to gain an understanding of the commitment and scope of the responsibility necessary to take on one of these positions. This way it will either solidify your decision to join or not depending on your opinion. Think of it like an internship.
In addition to Board positions we also are going to be looking for people to fill some other very important roles. Becky Price has long been our enrollment person. This is a big job and critical to the success of ECYB. Without Becky, I cannot imagine where we would be. Her son Jake is now in our Pony division and certainly we will need to find a quality replacement for Becky. Very big shoes to fill but for the right person it can be very rewarding.
So if you think you might be interested in getting involved in a quality organization that would love to have you, please let me know. I would be happy to set up some time to talk to you and get you headed in the right direction. In the meantime, let's play ball.
Mike

Building a Team Web Page
Want to build a Web page dedicated to your team's news? Or use the page to list parents' snack, field prep and scorekeeping assignments? You can! Any ECYB team can add a dedicated page (or pages) that are accessible from the ECYB main site. (For an ingenious use of a team site to include YouTube video of game action, check out the 2009 Pinto Expos' team website!) It's been made easy; the former ECYB webmaster has written an ECYB Team Page "How-To" Guide for anyone who would like to take on this task. The user guide is downloadable here.
FYI: The Team Webmaster job earns 5 hours of parent participation hours. (It does not count toward league parent participation hours.) To become your team's Webmaster, confirm with your team manager that the position is open and then contact us
to receive an administrator's login and password. |
