Monday, February 8th:

The City of El Cerrito has opened all fields. Play ball!

2010 Umpiring Training TODAY (Feb. 7th)

Umpiring! As always, ECYB will be relying on youth umpires to officiate its games in 2010. Players in their second year of Bronco ball and above are eligible to be umpires and are paid.

MANDATORY TRAINING FOR ALL UMPIRES: Both new and returning umpires must attend the ECYB Umpire Clinic today, February 7, 2010 at the Harding Clubhouse. The clinic runs from 9:30 A.M. TO 2:30 P.M. Lunch will be provided. Mark Beller of PROFESSIONAL OFFICIATING (and also an ECYB parent) will run the training, which will include a review of MLB/PONY rules and field mechanics.

Completed sign-up sheets were due by Friday, January 29th. (The sheet can be found in the "Handouts" section of the ECYB website.) If you are interested in umpiring for ECYB in the 2010 season but did not submit a form, please contact Rick Price at: rgprice32@yahoo.com

Players have been assigned to teams and registration is closed, except that we are still accepting sign-ups in our Shetland (5 to 7 year old) and Bronco (11 to 12 year old) Divisions. Please contact the Bronco or Shetland division presidents to inquire about openings before registering.

Message from the President

Hello everyone. By now all of you should have a pretty good sense of what team your player is affiliated with, the practice schedule, and are setting your sights on what volunteer jobs to sign up for. If you are in Shetland, this is still coming together but it will be soon.

Behind the scenes there is a great deal going on. We have held our first parents meeting which was well attended. We are planning the Shetland meeting for next week and there are some PCA meetings being set up for weeks 2 and 3 of February. The Division Presidents are working hard to get their game schedules ready to present to the Board at our next meeting on February 10th. We will get them posted as soon as possible so you can make your plans. Shannon Dowling is working on the preparations for our Opening Day Parade which will be on Saturday, February 27. That is always a fun event. It's the first time we get to see all of the kids in their clean uniforms with their new teams and teammates.

The one thing we worry about is anyone getting left behind or out of the loop with all of these activities. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions. There are plenty of jobs which need to be filled, plenty of opportunity to get involved at whatever level you choose. Most of all there is plenty of fun to be had interacting with other parents or watching the players develop their skills on the fields. So don't be shy. Come join us if you haven't already made a commitment. There are hundreds of wonderful people in this league and we hope you jump in.

In the meantime, the weather out there is looking a little weathery. This may mean some missed practices. Stay in touch with your coaches Find out what your child can be doing on the off days to stay in condition. It is important for them to keep their arms loose and no better way than just going out and playing a little catch or long toss. Swing a bat or swing a broom. Do a little running. It can't hurt and will help keep them engaged while waiting for the clouds to disappear.

Thanks! Mike McMullen
