Another Informative Cheer Workshop!

The Ellicott City Patriots Cheerleaders are always in training.
A huge thanks to Jeff Friday (Hailey from 8-10) of  ProShape Performance . Jeff Friday is the former Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Baltimore Ravens, holding the position for nine years. With more than 18 years of experience in training and developing college and professional athletes, Jeff has implemented athletic development programs in several intercollegiate men's and women's sports that have allowed athletes to succeed at the highest levels. He has trained more than 27 NFL Pro Bowl players. Our ECP Cheerleaders were lucky enough to get a warm-up session with Jeff.
Visit www.getinproshape.com to learn more about Jeff.
Also on hand was Sue James, the Nutritionist for the Ravens Cheerleaders, as well as the Orioles Baseball Team. Our girls were given personal 20 minute sessions with each age group, to talk about sport specific nutrition and how nutrition affects their athleticism. Sue left us some great handouts that the girls will take home next week. Visit--www.pinnacle4health.com

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Patriots Cheer Program:

Q: Can a Child With Special Needs Cheer?
A: The Department of Recreation and Parks & Ellicott City Patriots Cheerleading is pleased to comply with the American with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.) Regulations. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to register for cheer. With your registration, please include information regarding your child's disability and any accommodations that are needed. The department may provide an Inclusion Companion upon a parent's request. For additional services, please contact the Therapeutic Recreation and Inclusion Supervisor at (410) 313-4628.

Q: What will game day be like?

A: Cheerleaders are to be in full uniform when they arrive.  Please have hair tied back with hair bow in place.  No jewelry, nails must be trimmed short (no artificial tips allowed) and no gum allowed.  Please have all uniform pieces in your bag with you at every game in case it is needed.

No cheerleader may buy anything to eat from the concession stand until after they are done cheering. (Hot Dogs and jumping are never a good match!!)  Nor may they eat during the same when given breaks (they may drink water or sports drink).  Cheerleaders should bring a bottle of water. Please remember that only water is allowed on Turf fields

Q: Can I bring my pet to games/practice?

A: Family pets, leashed or not, should be left at home and are not allowed at the practice fields or at games. This is a safety issue and we ask for your cooperation.

Q: Can siblings join in on the fun?

A: Siblings are not allowed in the practice area. Please take extra care to make sure that little ones do not wander from your sight and enter the area where the girls are practicing. We are fearful that your little one may become injured or that one of our cheerleaders may become injured because a little one is in the way. We also ask that parents/siblings refrain from talking while the cheerleaders are stunting (especially once we are inside).

Cheerleading Essentials

Parents: Please read this with your child...

The Ellicott City Patriots Cheer program was created for children who want to have fun and learn the sport of cheerleading. In order to ensure that this happens in a safe and friendly way we have a few guidelines.

  • Cheerleading is a lot of fun! That means smiles and giggles are required.
  • Cheerleaders will show respect for other members on the squad. This means no teasing, laughing or physically hurting any cheerleader.
  • Cheerleaders will show respect for all level Coaches, Team Administrators, Guest Coaches and other Adults. Many people have given their time to help our program, so that we can together provide a great experience. They will treat you with respect; you are expected to do the same.
  • Cheerleaders will show respect for school property and the public areas that we use.
  • Cheerleaders will act appropriately when interacting with opposing team members. This means that you will not say anything mean or unkind towards other teams or coaches at some or away games. You represent the Ellicott City Patriots Football/Cheer program and we are proud to have you on our squad. Show this pride when interacting with other teams. A positive attitude should be displayed at all times. Be modest when successful and gracious in defeat.
  • All parents and athletes are expected to show complete respect to all other teams and their families. We are here to cheer and do our best and also to exhibit great sportsmanship. Regardless of our success or loss we will not boast, brag, taunt or complain at a game site. There is no tolerance for inappropriate behavior.
  • Cheerleaders are to be present at both home and away games. If you cannot attend a game for any reason, it is your responsibility to contact the Coach assigned to your child at least 3 days prior.
  • Cheerleaders must be at games at least 30 minutes early. This allows us to get you warmed up and to prepare for the game. Cheerleaders may not eat or drink (except for water breaks) during the game. This is for your safety.
  • All discipline actions for rudeness, talking back, not participating or anything a coach feels is disrespectful will be decided by the coach. Should you not agree with the discipline please see the Director of Cheer, Linda Lagala-Spano.
