Lords (w/ #10 D3 Michael Greenberg) overcome feisty Chicago team
GAMBIER, Ohio -- (February 16, 2008) The No. 23-ranked Kenyon College tennis team took a few lumps Saturday, but managed to stave off a feisty University of Chicago squad. The Lords won four singles matches and two doubles matches en route to a 6-3 team victory and an unblemished 6-0 record.

The Lords got a jump on the Maroons (4-2) in doubles play by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Michael Greenberg (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) and Jeremy Polster (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) teamed at No. 1 to make quick work of Garrett Brinker and Steve Saltarelli, 8-1.

Greenberg, the No. 10-ranked singles player in NCAA Division III, dropped one set to Will Zhang in the No. 1 singles match, but managed to rebound for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 win. Polster also won his singles match at No. 3, a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Brinker.

With the Maroons claiming two of the other singles match points, Kenyon needed a win at No. 5 or No. 6 to seal the deal. Sophomore Will VandenBerg (Milwaukee, WI/University School) made it happen at No. 5. He took the first set, 6-2, over Saltarelli, but then couldn't close the second set and fell 7-6. He regrouped in the deciding set and clinched the match for Kenyon with a 6-3 win.

The Lords will put their perfect record to the test again next Saturday, when they host Carnegie Mellon University.
