East Chapel Hill’s Jon Beyle was a double champion in the shot put and the discus. It was a very memorable finish to an outdoor season that hasn’t gone the way the Wildcat wanted.

“It’s been a struggle since adding the discus back in,” Beyle said. “Everything’s just been a little off, going back and forth between the two events. I started out really bad today in the shot, but got a good thrown in on my fourth throw, then the fifth one was good and the sixth really good.”

He won the shot at 55-1 ½, then took the discus at 161-3, more than 10 feet ahead of the runner-up.

In field events, East Chapel Hill’s Jon Beyle was outstanding, winning state championships in the discus and the shot put. He said he got it done by relying on solid technique over raw power.

“You can see I’m not the biggest thrower out here. It’s definitely technique that gets me there,” Beyle said.

The East Chapel Hill boys finished eighth overall.

Field Hockey: Sharing the top of the hill - But Carrboro was close
CHAPEL HILL - The Wildcats of East Chapel Hill staked their claim to the top of field hockey's pecking order last week with a 3-2 overtime victory over Carrboro.

East Chapel Hill head coach Susan Taylor was pleased, not only with the win that avenged a loss less than a week before at Carrboro High School, but also with the way her Wildcats got it done.

"This is the first time we've ever had a win coming from behind," Taylor noted. (full story)
