Field Hockey: Sharing the top of the hill - But Carrboro was close
CHAPEL HILL - The Wildcats of East Chapel Hill staked their claim to the top of field hockey's pecking order last week with a 3-2 overtime victory over Carrboro.

East Chapel Hill head coach Susan Taylor was pleased, not only with the win that avenged a loss less than a week before at Carrboro High School, but also with the way her Wildcats got it done.

"This is the first time we've ever had a win coming from behind," Taylor noted. (full story)

Field hockey's status more secure
BY W.E. WARNOCK, CHN Sports Editor
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board backed away last week from a proposal that many parents had interpreted as a plan to cut field hockey from local middle schools...
...But, before the public hearing on the budget began, board member Jamezetta Bedford told the assembled crowd that the board would not be making any cuts to the middle-school field hockey program and that the board would not target any particular sport in any potential budget cuts.
