SEASON OFFICIALLY OVER /SO LONG STEVO'S!
We had our season ending banquet on the 4th and officially said goodbye to our beloved seniors. At the banquet individual and team awards were passed out. The JV was recognized for their perfect season (18-0) and the coaches and parents had nice wall plaques made for each player saluting their great season.
The varsity players were also given similar wall plaques recognizing their great season too, including coach telling them that no team at EP has ever won 25 games before. It was really nice. Then he handed out individual awards for the season.

Pitcher Awards - Adam Hall (POY) and Zach Wheeler.

2004/2005 Varsity Season Recap...Raiders Reach Elite 8
The spring season of 2004-2005 started out with great expectations and high hopes. Coach Green and Coach Wall were looking at a stellar group of 9 seasoned seniors to lead the defense and offense, while returning two young gun, relatively untested sophmores to anchor the pitching staff. The rest of the roster was filled with other good players, leaving eveyrone very optimistic. Did they have the talent to win their region? Did they have the talent to advance in the state playoffs? Everyone certainly thought so. The team started out of the gate quickly, winning 7 of their first 8. Things were looking good heading into the spring break trip to Florida, with the team sitting at 7-2. The trip was fun and the team escaped with a 2-2 record, beating Miami Dade, and losing to the host team and a powerful (AAAAA 2005 State Champs) Chattahoochee team from here.
After Spring Break, the region season was to begin. The first game was against arch rival Hiram HS. Returning from the Florida trip on Friday, the game had been scheduled for that Saturday. A tired Raider squad dropped the game 3-0. Hiram had entered the game with a 1-10 record, which made the loss even harder to swallow. But the group did not get down, and reeled off 5 consecutive region wins to stay in contention for the top spot. Then came another disappointing loss to our other rival, Paulding County HS. They too were a sub .500 team we had expected to beat. Having two losses against teams we should have beaten made things very difficult as the league powers still lie ahead. We won the next game, but followed that with two poundings from 3rd ranked NW Whitfield and then Ringgold 13-0. At this point we sat at 6-4 in league play with 2 games left and quite deflated. They were clearly two must win games if we wanted in the playoffs. After some shakeups in the lineup and a few days off, the team responded with an emotional come from behind win over Ridgeland, and followed that up with a season ending win at Dalton to guarantee a 4th seed and spot in the playoffs. We were in!
The playoffs started out at Forrest Park, the #1 seed from Region 3. Coach Green had come down with a mysterious illness and was forced to miss the games. Coach Wall and Coach Cagle handled the team quite well in Coach's absence as we took both games easily (17-1 and 13-5).We were now in the 2nd round and the "Sweet Sixteen". Another road trip lie ahead, this time to Eastside HS in Covington to play round 2. In two incredibly exciting games, the Raiders prevailed. Game 1 took extra innings to win, and game two was a 4-3 thriller. We were in the "Elite 8". One of the top 8 teams in the state! That early season optimism had been right on. But we were now looking at the top team in the state. Previously a 5A team that had just recently dropped to 4A. The Lee County Trojans had been written up in most publications as the team to beat in Georgia. And they were right. A chartered bus took the boys down to Lee county during finals week to settle it up. Game 1 was an incredible pitcher's dual, but they beat us in a heartbreaker 2-1. Game 2 had more offense, but unfortunately Lee had more than us (10-5 final score) and the playoffs and season were over. But not before the 2004-2005 Raiders had proved that they truely were one of the top teams in the state and school history. Only one other time had a Raider team advanced as far.
Congratulations to the team. They deserve it.

ROBERTS AND WALLACE INK SCHOLARSHIPS
Jeremy Roberts, our favorite SS from the 2005 Spring team has just signed on to continue playing baseball at the next level with Reinhardt College in Waleska, Ga. (Just up the road, near Canton) For those who don't know, the Reinhardt baseball program is an up n commer, and they are getting one good player in Jeremy. He batted cleanup and was instrumental in the team reaching the "elite 8" this past season, fielding and hitting with great consistency.
Nick Wallace, our favorite 2nd baseman from the same team, has also signed a scholarship offer from Andrews College in South Georgia. Also known as a baseball school, they are getting a solid and consistent player in Nick. He batted either second or third in the order all season and was a monster in the playoffs, knocking the snot out of the ball and playing a mean 2B.
On top of all that, they are best friends!
Congratulations to both of you! We now look forward to hearing good things about you two at the next level and in the years to come.

From The Players And Coaches........To The East Paulding Fans And Parents
On Behalf of the East Paulding Players and Coaches I have been asked to say SAY THANK YOU
The above picture is not of good quality but was taken in Lowndes County after Raiders just advanced to the Final Four. Its was a ovation from the players and coaches thanking all the fans, students and parents that sat through nasty weather to cheer for EP. The show of thanks meant a lot to all of us in the stands. Many of the fans drove 4 hours to see the game and drove 4 hours back after the games. After the game late that night at the team hotel several players ask me to pass along THANKS.
On behalf of all the players, coaches and staff of the team we would like to say Thanks for all your support. Every night whether our game was home or away we always had the stands packed. At home it was full of students every night and always very loud and supportive. We will never forget that last out at home this year in the Mill Creek Playoff game or the ovation after the late inning win against Kennesaw Mt. . It was awesome. Thanks for all the Snack Bags and Candy Bags left in our hotel rooms on road trips. This all took effort. And Thanks Brigette for the awesome pictures that we got on Senior Night. What a ride....We did the best we could and although just short of a State Championship Game we far surpassed our goals and expectations. Thanks for all your financial support and the many hours you spent making our baseball experience the best it could be.
THANKS AGAIN FOR 2009 A MILESTONE YEAR FOR THE RAIDERS
PLAYERS, COACHES, STAFF OF 2009 EAST PAULDING RAIDERS
(This conversation was with 3 or 4 players at the team Hotel in Valdosta and they ask me to pass along their thanks. Also additional comments from guys after semi-Finals.... Pretty Cool from several 17 and 18 year olds)
