From The Players And Coaches........To The East Paulding Fans And Parents
On Behalf of the East Paulding Players and Coaches I have been asked to say SAY THANK YOU
The above picture is not of good quality but was taken in Lowndes County after Raiders just advanced to the Final Four. Its was a ovation from the players and coaches thanking all the fans, students and parents that sat through nasty weather to cheer for EP. The show of thanks meant a lot to all of us in the stands. Many of the fans drove 4 hours to see the game and drove 4 hours back after the games. After the game late that night at the team hotel several players ask me to pass along THANKS.
On behalf of all the players, coaches and staff of the team we would like to say Thanks for all your support. Every night whether our game was home or away we always had the stands packed. At home it was full of students every night and always very loud and supportive. We will never forget that last out at home this year in the Mill Creek Playoff game or the ovation after the late inning win against Kennesaw Mt. . It was awesome. Thanks for all the Snack Bags and Candy Bags left in our hotel rooms on road trips. This all took effort. And Thanks Brigette for the awesome pictures that we got on Senior Night. What a ride....We did the best we could and although just short of a State Championship Game we far surpassed our goals and expectations. Thanks for all your financial support and the many hours you spent making our baseball experience the best it could be.
THANKS AGAIN FOR 2009 A MILESTONE YEAR FOR THE RAIDERS
PLAYERS, COACHES, STAFF OF 2009 EAST PAULDING RAIDERS
(This conversation was with 3 or 4 players at the team Hotel in Valdosta and they ask me to pass along their thanks. Also additional comments from guys after semi-Finals.... Pretty Cool from several 17 and 18 year olds)

Raiders Fall To South Forsyth 5-2 State Championship Bid Falls 1 Win Short
Curtain Closes on the Raiders 2009 Season Raiders fall 5-2
East Paulding gave it all they had today but fell short as a very good South Forsyth team beats us 5-2 and ends the best season that East Paulding Baseball has ever seen. Raiders led the game till the 6th inning 2-1. South Forsyth scored 3 runs and went ahead 4-2. Final was 5-2. East Paulding was the only team to beat South Forsyth in this playoff run and several SF players were heard to say the East was the toughest team they had played in the playoffs.
WOW .....what a year.....It is tough being one game away from a State Championship Game but what this team has done in its first year in AAAAA has been awesome. Congratulations to the Coaches and Players for a season to remember. 32 of 74 teams make the playoffs and EP was one of the last 4 standing. Also 31 of those 32 will have a ride home like we had today. At least ours was one of the last rides in the playoffs. GOOD LUCK TO THE WAR EAGLES AS THEY FACE EITHER POPE OR BROOKWOOD FRDAY.

Wow.....High School Baseball Fans Got Their Moneys Worth Tonight
BASEBALL DRAMA AT ITS BEST
Raiders Lose Game 1 5-4 in bottom of 7th .....Win Game 2 in Bottom of 8th
EP and Kell Fans saw two of the most exciting games EP has played.
Game 1 started off Wheeler on the mound. Raiders jumped to a early lead with a 3 run homer by Steven Nix. Kell Jumped back in the second with a 2 run homer and added 2 more runs in the 3rd and carried a 4-3 lead to the 7th inning. With 2 outs and 2 strikes Andy Almonte launched a 1 run homer to tie in top of the 7th. Kells 2nd batter in the inning walked with one out in the bottom of 7th and then stole 2nd. John Duran hit a line drive double off the wall to win a 5-4 game and heartbreaking loss for EP. Zack Wheeler had 10 strikeouts and kept EP in the game but home field advantage paid off for Kell the 8th ranked team in the state.
Game 2 saw both teams start the 4th inning scoreless. East Paulding went on the board first with hits by Nix, Forrest and Norment that tallied to a 1-0 lead. Bobby Rednour was red hot on the mound. EP scored 2 more runs in the bottom of 5th to make it 3-0. What a dramatic 5th inning for Kell when Kyle Ciotti tripled with 1 out in the inning, The next batter drove a ball deep to right field. Zack Gonosz caught the fly ball and threw a rocket to home with Ciotti trying to tag and he was out at the plate. The large EP crowd went crazy. EP held a 3-0 lead till the 7th inning. Kell loaded the bases up with EP only 1 out away from victory when Will Dougherty cleared the bases with a double. It was a close play at the plate for the tying run but he was safe. This sent the game into extra innings. With Raiders the visiting team In the bottom of the 8th Jacob Forrest hit a 3 run walk off homer to win the game 6-3. Bobby Rednour pitched one heck of a game with Michael Goodman relieving.
Game 3 will decide who advances tomorrow (Saturday) at 1PM. Exciting baseball tonight as Raiders proved that they not only could play with the top teams in the state they can beat them also. What drama.......WOW

Raiders Win 10-0
Wheeler is flawless with another shutout only giving up 2 hits. East Paulding had Home runs by Michael Goodman and Andy Almonte to lead the charge. Raiders go to Marietta tomorrow at 5:55. Raiders clinch 3rd in the region. Etowah wins the region with a win tonight over Harrison. It boils down to this a Raider win tomorrow and a Harrison loss then the Raiders would move into second. Great Game and Great Senior Night. Special thanks to all the JV parents that helped tonight but VERY special thanks to Lisa Rednour and Bridget Carruth for their tireless work on making tonight a special night for the Seniors.

Raiders Fall To Etowah 4-2
Raiders fall to Etowah 4-2 ** JV wins the last game 4-2.
Varsity Raiders lose 4-2 to Etowah on a game that saw only 1 Raider hit. Etowah pitcher Patrick Merkling threw a heck of a game after falling in trouble with walks early. Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in 1st inning and never scored again. Etowah jumped ahead 3-2 on a 2 run homer by Zach Waters in the 3rd inning. Raiders hit the ball hard but always seemed to be right at Etowah. Hayden Pettita started and pitched well. Mathew Cole came in to finish and was very effective. Raiders made some mistakes on the pads and defensively but as the say some days are better than others. Raiders are one win a way from clinching a playoff berth. Raiders have won 8 of their last 10 so things are good.
JV Ends Season at 17-1
JV Raiders won a exciting game with a Josh Hill triple that scored 3 runs to put Raiders ahead 4-2 against Alexander. What a season 17-1. Coach Roberts and the JV teams have compiled a record over the last 3 years of 51-3. That is amazing. Congratulations on a great season. The future of EP baseball is in good hands.

RAIDERS WIN-RAIDERS WIN-RAIDERS **BOTTOM OF 7TH PLAY AT THE PLATE**
What a Barn Burner-East Paulding Defeated Kennesaw Mt. 6-5 bottom of the 7th.
No doubt on one the most exciting finishes in the last 10 years.
Hayden Pettita in his first ever Varsity start was very effective. After giving up 4 runs in the 1st inning Hayden settled down and threw 4 scoreless innings to keep EP in the game. Raiders answered with 2 runs in the second to narrow the game to 4-2 Kennesaw. Michael Goodman had a long homerun shot to leftfield in that inning. Zach Gonosz homered in the 5th to make it 4-3. Mathew Cole held Kennesaw scoreless and kept the Raiders in the game. Going into the bottom of the 7th Raiders narrowed the gap to 5-4 and with bases loaded and one out Steven Nix got a base hit through the infield. This set up a play at the plate for the win and Gonosz was safe. And the large crowd at the EP went crazy. Tempers flared on both teams at the end of the game and thanks to the Coaches and School Administrators for defusing a very emotional and hot situation. The two teams meet again at Kennesaw Mt. next week. Mathew Cole got the win for the Raiders. Raiders go 3 out of 4 the week against top rated teams. You could not ask for better results. Raiders are sitting 3rd in one of the States toughest regions.

What a pitchers dual tonight. Zack Wheeler pitched his second shutout in a row with 14 strikeouts. Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning after a Andy Almonte single and a Tyler Sims Sac Bunt. Andy was driven in after Michael Goodman forced 3B into a error. Raiders came close to scoring in the 5th 3 hits by Nix,Glover and Almonte but ended with a close play on Stuart Young at the plate. Kent Emmanual of Woodstock also pitched a heck of a game also Striking Out 14 Raider batters. A sea of scouts watching both these pitchers tonight. Zack K the side in the 7th to take the win. WOW.
Raiders are now right with Harrsion and Etowah at top of region each with 2 losses. AWESOME.

Raiders finish the week winning 2 out of 3 Region Games and 6-5 on season. The one loss this week was a one run loss to Harrison 8-7 on Thursday.
**Correction**Mistake on last nights update. Michael Goodman's HR against Harrison was a 3 Run Homer not a Grand Slam. The blast did make the score 5-4 though.

HUGE WEEKEND FOR RAIDER BASEBALL
Varsity goes to LaGrange to a Invitational tournament that is well known and attended by many College and Pro Scouts. There are 8 highly ranked teams and EP finished 3rd. After a slow start against Columbus in just one of those games that got away EP settles down with a 2-0 win against Niceville FL, a 16-10 win against Eagles View FL and a 7-6 win against defending AAA State Champs Cartersville. Since we were playing Cartersville some of you were able to hear it on radio/webcast on Cartersville station. The 7-6 win was exciting. Lance Gray getting the win with great middle relief by Taylor Davis and closer Michael Goodman. Goodman also hit a 3 run homer to put EP ahead. What a huge confidence builder for the Raiders after a slow start this season. Team is now 3-3. This weekend we faced the toughest pitching any high school team will face. Scouts all over the place watching 6 or 7 Senior pitchers for different teams in the contest . The 2-0 Niceville win saw a 2 hitter for both sides. Great Job and what preparation for AAAAA Baseball. Also what a honor to be invited to play in such a top notch tournament. The winner of the tournament will be decided tonight between Columbus HS and Providence FL.
Congratulations to JV. Paulding Tournament Champions. After winning Thursday and Friday the JV Raiders win again Saturday 11-2 against South Paulding to take the tournament. Great Job and JV now 5-0.

JV Head Coach Kevin Roberts A plus for East Paulding Baseball
One of the great things about being a part of East Paulding Baseball is the quality of the coaching staff. The players at EP have a great relationship with the coaches and that makes for a very positive atmosphere in the clubhouse and on the field. One of those coaches is our JV Head Coach Kevin Roberts. Kevin is also on staff at Roberts Middle School. Coach Roberts in his second year at EP has compiled a record of 34-2. His first year he lead the team to a 18-0 undefeated season. He has also coached at Woodland, and Cass HS both football and baseball. Coach Roberts is married to wife Regina who during the season has to be very supportive in her own way due to the many hours a job like this can take up. Coach Roberts and Regina have one daughter named Lauren. He is a graduate of Kennesaw State University and also attended Reinhardt College in Waleska. When Coach Roberts is not tied up teaching or coaching he enjoys Deer Hunting and Golf. When ask what he likes about EP he added " I enjoy the family atmosphere of the EP baseball program. I also enjoy the dedication that the players and parents put into the program, and lets not forget about the big screen TV in the clubhouse. That is pretty sweet also. "
WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A GUY LIKE KEVIN ROBERTS THAT ALL THE PLAYERS LOOK UP TO. THANKS COACH AND KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO.

Salem Knocks out Raiders 8-7
The Raiders were knocked out of the playoffs by Salem on Friday night 8-7. We held a 7-1 advantage early on but could not maintain it. Salem hits a two out two strike 3 run home run in the 7th to break all our hearts and end our season. Great job by the kids and you guys had a great seaon, giving all of us some wonderful memories for years to come. Good luck to all the seniors as they played their last game in a Raider uniform. We will miss each and every one of you.

RAIDERS SWEEP FIRST ROUND GAMES...ON TO ROUND TWO!
Friday night the Raiders took two from Ridgeland behind great pitching and great hitting. Zach Wheeler shut the door on the Panthers in game 1 with a 4 inning perfect game, striking out 11 of the 12 batters he faced. The offense did the rest, piling up 15 runs on 11 hits. Andy Almonte went 3 for 3 with a home run, Matt Aultman went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Eric Gaylord had 2 hits and 3 RBI's, Stuart Young a triple and an RBI, Adam Brazenas a hit and an RBI, and Zach Gonosz also had a triple and an RBI. A great effort in Game 1.
In game 2, with Adam Hall on the hill to start, we piled up 4 in the second and never looked back. Another game with lots of hits (13) too. Adam Brazenas went 3 for 3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Eric Gaylord continued his torrid pace with 2 more hits and 2 RBI's, Matt Aultman had a triple, Trent Glover a double and a single, Andy Almonte had a double, Stuart Young a triple and 2 RBI's, Justin Griswell a single, Zach Gonosz a single and an RBI, and Jacob Forrest had a hit too. On the hill, Adam Hall went 5 innings for the win, allowing just 4 singles and 1 earned run.
The fans were great (albeit a bit rowdy), their coach got tossed in game 2, and we had a great turnout! Pretty much a little of everything last night. Next up is Salem at home on Wednesday. They will be a much more formidable foe. Lets keep the place rockin! Show up and cheer for the good guys. Man I felt sorry for their catcher though!
Cherokee and Alexander were eliminated last night and Sequoyah is playing their rubber game today. Let's pull for that other region 5 team, eh? See you soon!

#1 Ranked Raiders Take Out South Paulding on Senior Night 11-1
The Raiders entered their game last night against cross town rivals South Paulding as the #1 ranked team in the state. A nice end to the regular season on senior night, the coaches poll had just been released earlier in the day and the Raiders were at the top. On a beautiful evening at East Paulding, we had a nice pre-game ceremony introducing our 11 graduating seniors and their parents. After a little introduction for each player, each one was presented (by the junior players) with a beautiful poster collage with pictures of themselves. The posters were created and framed by Ms Carruth. After the opening ceremony, we proceeded to crush SP 11-1, with the seniors leading the way. Adam Hall pitched 3 innings and got the win. Austin Meek pitched the last inning. Will Brooks had a 2 RBI single, Erick Gaylord hit a homer and had 5 RBI's. Adam Brazenas had 2 hits and two runners thrown out stealing. Rudy Rodriguez, and Matt Aultman each had a hit. Justin Griswell, Chris Wilson, Geraldo Mancilla, and Jake Field all played well. Each player also had an "embarassing" moment revealed to the masses during the game. Then after the game, the players doused coach Boyd with a bucket of ice cold water. Great to see everyone having so much fun. We had a packed house for the game, then a team steak dinner afterwards. All in all it was a great and fun night for all, capped off by a win, a region championship, and a state #1 ranking! This is the first time ever that an East Paulding baseball team has been ranked atop the heap! Congrats to everyone. Now it's on to the playoffs. Details will be forthcoming.

Raiders win Second Region Championship!
We beat Sequoyah 7-3 to win our second consecutive region championship. With a record of 20-1, we have clinched first place! We drew first blood as we scored 2 in the first inning on just 1 hit. An RBI single by Rudy Rodriguez plated the first run and a wild pitch got the second run across. We opened the lead to 4-0 in the 3rd inning on another hit by Rudy, driving in 2 more. In the 4th, with Wheeler cruising on the hill, we widened the lead to 5-0 on a single by Steven Nix and an RBI double by Geraldo Mancilla. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 4th or 5th (can't exactly remember..mad cow and all that) to make it 5-2, then added another in the next inning to make it 5-3. Then, with a runner at second and two out, they hit a tough ball down the first base line that looked like a double, but Rudy snared it and beat the runner to first to end the inning and the threat. Erick Gaylord hit a big insurance two run homer in the 7th to make it 7-3 and it looked good for us. But then in the bottom of the 7th, they loaded the bases with no outs. The next batter hit a grounder to third that was thrown wildly to home. Somehow, catcher Adam Brazenas dove, stretched, and picked the ball out of the dirt to get the out and preserve the momentum. Adam Hall, who had come on in relief in the 6th, then proceeded to strike out the next two batters and the threat and the game was finally over. Region champs! Rudy 2 hits 3RBI, Gaylord 1HR 2RBI, Mancilla 1 2B 1 RBI, Nix 1 hit, Young 1 hit, Almonte 1 hit. Wheeler WP 5IP 9K's 0ER, Hall 2IP, 0ER, 3K's, Save.

Showdown #2... EP V Sequoyah on Monday Night For All The Marbles
The biggest game of the year will be played at Sequoyah on Monday night. They have 2 losses and we have 1. If we win, we clinch the region championship and the #1 seed from our region for the playoffs. If we lose, we are not out of it, but that hopefully won't happen so we won't discuss the ramifications of if.... Zach Wheeler will be on the hill for us and probably Kennesaw State signee Parker Sutton for them. There will be some college coaches and some pro scouts there as well. Word is the head coaches from Truett-McConnel college and Head coach Dan Giordano from Oglethorpe University will be there along with a few others, possibly coach Sansing from Kennesaw State too. As is usually the case when Wheels pitches, a few pro scouts are bound to be there as well. It will be a packed house so get there early. I know a great back way there from Bentwater so if anyone wants to follow just give me a hollar and we can caravan at about 4:30-4:45. Man, I just can't wait!

Raiders Beat Chapel Hill 8-4
The Raiders again had to come from behind, this time against Chapel Hill. We took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an Erick Gaylord RBI single, but they came right back with a 2 spot in the bottom of the first. We came back and added 2 more in the 3rd, then kept adding one or two each inning til the lead was 8-3. They scored 1 in the 7th to close to 8-4 but that was it. The bats seem to be coming back as we had 11 hits. Almonte 3, Young 2, Gaylord 2, Rodriguez 2, Brazenas 1, Mancilla 1. Adam Hall, the country boy went all 7 innings for the win. He ended the week with 12 innings pitched, 2 wins and 1 save. And his arm still worked well enough to play some geetar over the weekend!

Raiders get come from behind win over Alexander 7-4
A huge win for the Raiders. Early in the game, we fell behind 4-0. In the process we kept leaving men on base as we just couldn't seem to get a hit when we needed it. In the 5th, still down 4-0, we finally pushed one across on a Zach Gonosz sac fly to make it 4-1. With coach Reed helping get the fans up and loud, we started off the 6th with a Rudy Rodriguez pinch single. Andy Almonte followed that up with an opposite field double, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. A base hit to right center by Stuart Young brought home 2 and it was suddenly 4-3. Our fans and bench were going wild. Matt Aultman then hit a line drive to right that their fielder muffed for a 2 base error, putting the tying and lead runs at 2nd and 3rd. After an out, they intentionally walked Adam Brazenas to load the bases, hoping for the double play ball by Jacob Forrest. But Jacob nailed the 2nd pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam, giving us a 7-4 lead that we wouldn't relinquish. Zach Wheeler pitched 6 innings with 14K's and no earned runs. Adam Hall closed the game by pitching the 7th inning. A great win by the Raiders and a huge comeback showed we just might have what it takes. A big thanks to Coach Reed and our fans for being so loud and positive. It definitely helped inspire the team.

Raiders Beat Osborne to Remain in 1st Place
We beat Osborne last night 11-2 to keep our 1 game lead over AHS and SHS. With games against both teams on the horizon, this was an impotanat win. Adam Hall gets the W for us. Next up is Alexander on Weds night. They are the only team to beat us in region play this year. A huge game. Go Raiders.
Thursday, April 17
We Beat Lithia 17-7 Tonight, Coming from Behind!
The game was alot more interesting than the score indicates. We first take a 3-0 lead in the first, leaving the bases loaded. Then, they come back with a 3 run bomb by their pitcher in the second to tie it. In the top of the third, they score 2 more to go ahead 5-3. We come back to blow the game open in the bottom of the 3rd. We had a ton of errors and they made a few as well. We had a hilarious moment when Justin Griswell almost caught up to Steven Nix from first base, both scoring on a long hit. Gris was about 10 feet behind Steven as they crossed home plate one after another...Steven huffing and puffing the whole way. Was a "Major League"/ "Little Big League" moment if you will. Bobby Rednour gets the win. Adam Brazenas hit a towering 2 run homer in the 3rd to put us up 6-5. Rudy Rodriguez had 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Also getting 2 hits were Andy Almonte and Matt Aultman (3 RBIs) as Erick Gaylord, Justin Griswell, Zach Gonosz, and Steven Nix also collected hits.
Monday, April 14
Raiders Take Woodland 7-1
We beat Woodland behind Adam Hall 7-1. Eric Gaylord remained red hot as he had 3 RBI's and at least 2 hits. Jacob Forrest had 2 hits as did Andy Almonte. Also getting hits were Stuart Young, Rudy Rodriguez, Justin Griswell and Adam Brazenas. Will Brooks pitched the final 2 (scoreless) innings.
Saturday, April 12
Raiders Squeak By Hillgrove 2-1
In a classic pitcher's duel, Zach Wheeler outlasts Hillgrove 2-1. A tough game and our only runs came on a 2 run dinger by Matt Aultman in the 4th inning. That was it! Great pitching performance again by Wheeler and by their starter, Halbohn. Adam Hall pitched the 7th inning for the save.

Raiders Spank South 15-1
We went to South Paulding on Tuesday night and gave them a good ole fashioned spanking! 15 runs and 16 hits, including a 9 spot in the top of the first! Andy Almonte went 4 for 4 and Bobby Rednour picked up his 4th win without a loss. The game was pretty much over after the 1st inning. Coach got just about everyone an at bat...including Wheels..who was more surprised than anyone when he got summoned to pinch hit. Next up is Pebblebrook on Weds.
Wednesday, April 2
Raiders Take Pebblebrook in 3, 15-0
Pretty short game. Steven Nix had 2 home runs and Zach Gonosz had 1. Matt Cole gets the win.
