Raiders Fall To South Forsyth 5-2 State Championship Bid Falls 1 Win Short

Curtain Closes on the Raiders 2009 Season   Raiders fall 5-2
East Paulding gave it all they had today but fell short as a very good South Forsyth team beats us 5-2 and ends the best season that East Paulding Baseball has ever seen.   Raiders led the game  till the 6th inning 2-1.  South Forsyth scored 3 runs and went ahead 4-2.   Final was 5-2.  East Paulding was the only team to beat South Forsyth in this playoff run and several SF players were heard to say the East was the toughest team they had played in the playoffs.
WOW .....what a year.....It is tough being one game away from a State Championship Game but what  this team has done in its first year in AAAAA has been awesome.   Congratulations to the Coaches and Players for a season to remember.   32 of 74 teams make the playoffs and EP was one of the last 4 standing.  Also 31 of those 32 will have a ride home like we had today.  At least  ours was one of the last rides in the playoffs.   GOOD LUCK TO THE WAR EAGLES AS THEY FACE EITHER POPE OR BROOKWOOD FRDAY.

Salem Knocks out Raiders 8-7

The Raiders were knocked out of the playoffs by Salem on Friday night 8-7. We held a 7-1 advantage early on but could not maintain it. Salem hits a two out two strike 3 run home run in the 7th to break all our hearts and end our season. Great job by the kids and you guys had a great seaon, giving all of us some wonderful memories for years to come. Good luck to all the seniors as they played their last game in a Raider uniform. We will miss each and every one of you.

RAIDERS SWEEP FIRST ROUND GAMES...ON TO ROUND TWO!

Friday night the Raiders took two from Ridgeland behind great pitching and great hitting. Zach Wheeler shut the door on the Panthers in game 1 with a 4 inning perfect game, striking out 11 of the 12 batters he faced. The offense did the rest, piling up 15 runs on 11 hits. Andy Almonte went 3 for 3 with a home run, Matt Aultman went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Eric Gaylord had 2 hits and 3 RBI's, Stuart Young a triple and an RBI, Adam Brazenas a hit and an RBI, and Zach Gonosz also had a triple and an RBI. A great effort in Game 1.

In game 2, with Adam Hall on the hill to start, we piled up 4 in the second and never looked back. Another game with lots of hits (13) too. Adam Brazenas went 3 for 3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Eric Gaylord continued his torrid pace with 2 more hits and 2 RBI's, Matt Aultman had a triple, Trent Glover a double and a single, Andy Almonte had a double, Stuart Young a triple and 2 RBI's, Justin Griswell a single, Zach Gonosz a single and an RBI, and Jacob Forrest had a hit too. On the hill, Adam Hall went 5 innings for the win, allowing just 4 singles and 1 earned run.

The fans were great (albeit a bit rowdy), their coach got tossed in game 2, and we had a great turnout! Pretty much a little of everything last night. Next up is Salem at home on Wednesday. They will be a much more formidable foe. Lets keep the place rockin! Show up and cheer for the good guys. Man I felt sorry for their catcher though!

Cherokee and Alexander were eliminated last night and Sequoyah is playing their rubber game today. Let's pull for that other region 5 team, eh? See you soon!

Raiders win Second Region Championship!

We beat Sequoyah 7-3 to win our second consecutive region championship. With a record of 20-1, we have clinched first place! We drew first blood as we scored 2 in the first inning on just 1 hit. An RBI single by Rudy Rodriguez plated the first run and a wild pitch got the second run across.  We opened the lead to 4-0 in the 3rd inning on another hit by Rudy, driving in 2 more. In the 4th, with Wheeler cruising on the hill, we widened the lead to 5-0 on a single by Steven Nix and an RBI double by Geraldo Mancilla. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 4th or 5th (can't exactly remember..mad cow and all that) to make it 5-2, then added another in the next inning to make it 5-3. Then, with a runner at second and two out, they hit a tough ball down the first base line that looked like a double, but Rudy snared it and beat the runner to first to end the inning and the threat. Erick Gaylord hit a big insurance two run homer in the 7th to make it 7-3 and it looked good for us. But then in the bottom of the 7th, they loaded the bases with no outs. The next batter hit a grounder to third that was thrown wildly to home. Somehow, catcher Adam Brazenas dove, stretched, and picked the ball out of the dirt to get the out and preserve the momentum. Adam Hall, who had come on in relief in the 6th, then proceeded to strike out the next two batters and the threat and the game was finally over. Region champs! Rudy 2 hits 3RBI, Gaylord 1HR 2RBI, Mancilla 1 2B 1 RBI, Nix 1 hit, Young 1 hit, Almonte 1 hit. Wheeler WP 5IP 9K's 0ER, Hall 2IP, 0ER, 3K's, Save.

2004/2005 Varsity Season Recap...Raiders Reach Elite 8

The spring season of 2004-2005 started out with great expectations and high hopes. Coach Green and Coach Wall were looking at a stellar group of 9 seasoned seniors to lead the defense and offense, while returning two young gun, relatively untested sophmores to anchor the pitching staff. The rest of the roster was filled with other good players, leaving eveyrone very optimistic. Did they have the talent to win their region? Did they have the talent to advance in the state playoffs? Everyone certainly thought so. The team started out of the gate quickly, winning 7 of their first 8. Things were looking good heading into the spring break trip to Florida, with the team sitting at 7-2. The trip was fun and the team escaped with a 2-2 record, beating Miami Dade, and losing to the host team and a powerful (AAAAA 2005 State Champs) Chattahoochee team from here.

After Spring Break, the region season was to begin. The first game was against arch rival Hiram HS. Returning from the Florida trip on Friday, the game had been scheduled for that Saturday. A tired Raider squad dropped the game 3-0. Hiram had entered the game with a 1-10 record, which made the loss even harder to swallow. But the group did not get down, and reeled off 5 consecutive region wins to stay in contention for the top spot. Then came another disappointing loss to our other rival, Paulding County HS. They too were a sub .500 team we had expected to beat. Having two losses against teams we should have beaten made things very difficult as the league powers still lie ahead. We won the next game, but followed that with two poundings from 3rd ranked NW Whitfield and then Ringgold 13-0. At this point we sat at 6-4 in league play with 2 games left and quite deflated. They were clearly two must win games if we wanted in the playoffs. After some shakeups in the lineup and a few days off, the team responded with an emotional come from behind win over Ridgeland, and followed that up with a season ending win at Dalton to guarantee a 4th seed and spot in the playoffs. We were in!

The playoffs started out at Forrest Park, the #1 seed from Region 3. Coach Green had come down with a mysterious illness and was forced to miss the games. Coach Wall and Coach Cagle handled the team quite well in Coach's absence as we took both games easily (17-1 and 13-5).We were now in the 2nd round and the "Sweet Sixteen". Another road trip lie ahead, this time to Eastside HS in Covington to play round 2. In two incredibly exciting games, the Raiders prevailed. Game 1 took extra innings to win, and game two was a 4-3 thriller. We were in the "Elite 8". One of the top 8 teams in the state! That early season optimism had been right on. But we were now looking at the top team in the state. Previously a 5A team that had just recently dropped to 4A. The Lee County Trojans had been written up in most publications as the team to beat in Georgia. And they were right. A chartered bus took the boys down to Lee county during finals week to settle it up. Game 1 was an incredible pitcher's dual, but they beat us in a heartbreaker 2-1. Game 2 had more offense, but unfortunately Lee had more than us (10-5 final score) and the playoffs and season were over. But not before the 2004-2005 Raiders had proved that they truely were one of the top teams in the state and school history. Only one other time had a Raider team advanced as far.

Congratulations to the team. They deserve it.

ROBERTS AND WALLACE INK SCHOLARSHIPS

Jeremy Roberts, our favorite SS from the 2005 Spring team has just signed on to continue playing baseball at the next level with Reinhardt College in Waleska, Ga. (Just up the road, near Canton) For those who don't know, the Reinhardt baseball program is an up n commer, and they are getting one good player in Jeremy. He batted cleanup and was instrumental in the team reaching the "elite 8" this past season, fielding and hitting with great consistency.

Nick Wallace, our favorite 2nd baseman from the same team, has also signed a scholarship offer from Andrews College in South Georgia. Also known as a baseball school, they are getting a solid and consistent player in Nick. He batted either second or third in the order all season and was a monster in the playoffs, knocking the snot out of the ball and playing a mean 2B.

On top of all that, they are best friends!

Congratulations to both of you! We now look forward to hearing good things about you two at the next level and in the years to come.
