East Lyme Little League: Spring 2015 Divisions

Majors Baseball
Baseball Majors (league ages: 9-12. Players born between 5/1/2002 and 12/31/2006) Major League is played at a competitive level for players who have mastered or nearly mastered the fundamentals of baseball, displayed good sportsmanship, and developed the self-confidence to play competitive Little League. This league plays an intense 20 game schedule. Practices start in March. All baseball players not already assigned to a major league team will be required to attend one of the tryout sessions. All 12-year old players who try out are required to be drafted into the majors. Major league eligibility will be forfeited for the 2015 season if a player does not attend one of the tryout sessions. All players trying out will be eligible for the major league draft. Players drafted onto a major league roster are not eligible to be reassigned to a AAA-baseball roster. Parents of 9-12 year olds may not waive their children out of the major league draft. Players that are league age 10-11 failing to attend one of the tryout sessions will be assigned to a AAA team unless decided upon otherwise by the ELLL president.

AAA Baseball
AAA (ages 8*& 9-11 Born between 5/1/2003 and 12/31/2007) AAA baseball is designed to give players the ability to play in a major league atmosphere while playing at an appropriate skill level. The focus of AAA baseball is on continuing the development of the fundamentals of the game while introducing game strategy and competition. Scoring and standings will be maintained throughout the year. Teams will play an approximate 14 game schedule. Practices start in March. *Play-Up Option: Individuals who meet the following criteria have the option of playing up at the next level: 1) Played 1 year at the current age appropriate level. 2) Attend an evaluation session for coaches to decide if child has the ability to play at the higher level. 3) There must be room in the league in which the players want to play up into. If a child has the ability based on the coaches evaluation he/she will be assigned to a team on the higher level. If the coaches feel the child still needs further development he/she will be assigned to a team at the level that is age appropriate for the child.

AA Baseball
AA-Ball (league ages 7*-8-9 Born between 1/1/2006 and 12/31/2008) AA Baseball focuses on the continued development of the player's fundamental skills. Skill development at this level is on hitting the pitched ball and completing plays in the field with introduction of field and base coverage. Approximately half of the season will be a "coach-pitch" league. During the second half of the season players will be expected to pitch certain number of innings per game. Teams will play no more than two games per week (14 game schedule), with additional practice sessions scheduled throughout the season. Practices start in late March, early April. *Play-Up Option: Individuals who meet the following criteria have the option of playing up at the next level: 1) Played 1 year at the current age appropriate level. 2) Attend an evaluation session for coaches to decide if child has the ability to play at the higher level. 3) There must be room in the league in which the players want to play up into. If a child has the ability based on the coachesÂ’ evaluation he/she will be assigned to a team on the higher level. If the coaches feel the child still needs further development he/she will be assigned to a team at the level that is age appropriate for the child.

A Baseball
A-Ball (league ages 6-7 Born between 1/1/2008 and 12/31/2009) A Baseball provides the player with his/her first experience on the full size little league field. The primary skills of baseball are reintroduced and practiced. This league will gradually introduce the pitched ball to the batter, as a tee will be sparingly used for the first half of the season. Teams will play no more than two games per week, with additional practice sessions scheduled throughout the season. Practices start in early April.

T-Ball
Tee Ball (league ages 4, 5 Born between 1/1/2010 and 12/31/2011) Tee Ball provides the entry level to the game of baseball and softball for young players. This league introduces the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, catching, and throwing. Teams play two games per week (one week day game, Tuesday or Thursday, and one Saturday morning game). Practices start in early April.
