Red Sox Are East Lyme Little League Champions 2014

The Red Sox Who lost in the championship in 2013, completed their 2014 season by winning the Championship this year.  The Red Sox who were regular season champions faced off against the A's who finished second during the regular season.  The starting pitchers were Sophie Dubreuil (Red Sox) and Owen Elmer (A's).  The Red Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead helped by a 3-run homer by Joey Grubb.  The A's didn't let that hinder them as they climbed back into the game with 5 unanswered runs to make it 6-5 after 4 innings.  In the bottom of the 5 with two on Noah Perry had a key double that scored two runs and added a little insurance going into the top of the 6th inning.  Tommy Bonelli came in to pitch a 1,2,3 final inning to give the Red Sox the championship with an 8-5 victory.  The red Sox finished the season with a record of 16 wins to only 2 loses.

Little League Pledge

The Little League Pledge was written by Peter J. McGovern, the late president of Little League Baseball, in 1954. It made its first appearance in the February 1955 “Little Leaguer” magazine. Its text has remained unchanged in the half-century since then.

The Little League Pledge was drafted after Mr. McGovern became aware that local Little League programs were reciting the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance before games. Mr. McGovern wanted to give all leagues (not just those in the United States) a pledge reflecting some of the sentiments of the Pledge of Allegiance, minus the references to the U.S., while adding the elements of sportsmanship and the desire to excel.
