Smith named Team MVP at baseball banquet
At the EHS baseball banquet last night, Nicholas Smith was chosen as team MVP for the 2009 season. Smith led the 4A Kingco in hitting and was selected 1st team All-Kingco. Nicholas Hooper was named pitcher of the year for Eastlake. Hooper was electric after being brought up from the JV, came within 1 out of a no-hitter in a shut-out win over Ballard. Senior Austin Marshall was presented with the Coaches Award by Skip Hulet. Also announced at the banquet was that Nick Andrews has accepted a scholarship to play D-1 baseball at South Dakota State University. Andrews, like Smith, was a unanimous 1st team selection on the All-Kingco team. Andrews and Smith, both varsity starters for 3 years, have left their imprint on the EHS record book but will be missed as much for their leadership abilities as their baseball skills. Good luck to both as they continue their careers at the collegiate level. Go Wolves! Wednesday, May 27

Eastlake stunned 3A #1 and undefeated Eastside Catholic 12-1 on Wednesday. The Wolves were powered by Nick Andrews and Michael Russo. Andrews had a 3-run home run in the 2nd inning and ended the day with 4 RBI. Russo broke out of a slump with a double and 3-run homer that ended the game in the 6th inning with the mercy rule. The big story on this day was the pitching of Nick Hooper. Hooper, in his first varsity start, went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing just 5 hits and 1 run. Joe Shaffer, just up from the JV, finished the game off with a solid 1 1/3 innings of relief including getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the 5th inning. Wolves record is now 5-4. Friday, March 27
