Parents and Coaches:

Please join us for a free clinic on preventing, recognizing, and treating baseball overuse injuries in pitchers. The physical therapists and sports medicine trainers at G2 Physical Therapy will deliver a presentation and question and answer discussion for Eastlake Little League coaches and parents at their clinic on 228th next to Ace Hardware at 7pm on February 7th. This is great opportunity for all of us to get more informed about how to keep our young pitchers healthy and avoid overuse injuries.

The clinic will be run by Jay McDiarmid, DPT, MTC, CSCS and Nicole Mallory, MS, ATC/L, CSCS. Jay has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) and has been practicing in sports medicine/orthopedics for over 10 years. He has extensive experience in strength and conditioning and on field injury assessment. Nicole has Master’s degrees in both Human Movement Science and Exercise Physiology. Nicole has been a Certified Athletic Trainer for 10 years and has worked with Division I college baseball and football teams. Both Jay and Nicole have treated numerous baseball injuries and will share their experience and the latest techniques and research on keeping pitchers healthy.

Jay and Nicole will cover a range of topics and answer your questions including:

  • What factors contribute to overuse injuries in pitchers?
  • How do I know the right number of pitches for my player?
  • What should I look for in my pitchers mechanics that may put him/her at risk for injury?
  • Should my pitcher be throwing breaking pitches?
  • What kind of strength and conditioning should pitchers do to reduce injuries and improve performance?
  • What is "Little League elbow" and how do we know when soreness is something more serious?
  • What kind of a rehab program should my pitchers do after pitching to promote recovery?

Player Evaluations for 2012 Competitive Baseball (AAA, Coast, Majors) - February 4th

Baseball player evaluations for all players who will play AAA, Coast or Majors this season will take place on Saturday, February 4th at Eastlake High School on the community turf fields behind the football field.  Please see the schedule below for the time that your player should check in.  It's important that your player check-in at the designated time so they can be seen by coaches at the right level and minimize their time on the field.  Our goal is to cycle players through all the stations in 60 minutes.  If your player is unable to attend the Feb. 4th evaluation, we will hold a make-up session on Monday, February 6th at 5:30PM on the EHS community field.  Every player in AAA, Coast and Majors is required to attend player evaluations.  Evaluations will happen rain or shine.  Players should dress appropriate for the weather and baseball.
