**Summer 2009 Varsity Schedule**

Friday, July 10 - Sunday, July 12 - Henry Clay/Dunbar Tournament - Lexington

**Players should meet at Dunbar at 11:30.**

Friday - 12:30 vs. Danville at Dunbar
Friday - 3:00 vs. Boyd County at Dunbar

**Players should meet at Dunbar at 9:00.**

Saturday - 10:00 vs. Dunbar at Dunbar
Saturday - 12:30 vs. St. X at Dunbar

Sunday - TBA

Directions to Dunbar:  Take I-64 East to Versailles/Frankfort exit.  Go right off exit and continue to Lexington.  Take a right after the airport on Man O' War Blvd.  Dunbar is up about two miles on the right.

Monday, July 13 - Field Work from 5:00-8:00.  We need all players on the summer team to be there plus any other players in the program that is available.  We have to move things from the hut to the new facility plus general cleanup with fence/poles on the band practice field along with field clean-up. 

Tuesday, July 14 - Dunbar (DH) - Home - 5:30.  On field at 4:00.

Wednesday, July 15 - St. X (DH) - Away - 5:30.  Meet at St. X at 4:30.

Friday, July 17 - Sunday, July 19 - Eastern Invitational Tournament (4 games)
Friday - 7:00 vs. Madison Central.  Hit in cages at 5:00.
Saturday - 9:00 AM vs. Male.  On field at 8:00.
Saturday - 8:15 PM vs. Lexington South.  At field at 7:00.
Sunday - 5:30 vs. Henry Clay. Hit in cages at 3:30.

Tuesday, July 21 - Henry Clay (DH) - Away - 5:30.  Meet at Henry Clay at 4:30.
Directions:  Take I-65 West to Versailles/Frankfort exit.  Get off exit and continue to Lexington.  Take 1st New Circle Road (East) and get off at the Richmond Road exit.  Take a left and go down about 1 mile and take a left on Fontaine.  (Fazoli's is on the right).  Go to stop sign and take a left and field is on the left.

Thursday, July 23 - Trinity (DH) - Home - 5:30.  Meet at field at 4:00.

Saturday, July 25 - Alumni Game - 10:00 & Father/Son Game - 1:00.  Alumni should get to the field around 9:00-9:30.

**Commemorative Bricks**

Commemorative Brick Total : 2

We have a goal of a minimum of 150 by August 1.

We are now selling commemorative bricks like the ones we currently have on our backstop and the new ones will go on the back retaining wall behind home plate.  Individual bricks are $65 each and businesses are $85 each. 

Go to the handouts section on the website to print out a flyer and mail it in with your payment to purchase or sell a brick or give form and payment to Coach Morris or Tim Cornett.  We are selling them this summer and they will be engraved in the fall.

Major League Baseball 

*Todd Wellemeyer - 1997 graduate.  Currently playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and won 13 games last season.  Drafted in the 4th round by the Chicago Cubs out of Bellarmine University in 2000.

Professional Baseball

*David Slovak - 2004 graduate.  Currently playing A ball for the Washington Nationals.  Signed free agent contract with the Washington Nationals out of the University of Delaware in 2008.

*Brian Halford - 2002 graduate.  Currently playing in the independent Northern League.  Signed free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals out of the University of Louisville in 2006.

Division I 

*Kiley Jones - 2008 graduate.  Currently playing at the University of Cincinnati.

*Jason Chowning - 2006 graduate.  Currently playing at the University of Oklahoma.  Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 43rd round in 2007 out of Texarkana Junior College (TX).

*Wes Cunningham - 2006 graduate.  Currently playing at Murray State University.

Division II

*Lucas Harry - 2008 graduate.  Currently playing at Carson Newman (TN).

*Bryan Baldini - 2006 graduate.  Currently playing at Northern Kentucky University.

*Kevin Jordan - 2006 graduate.  Currently playing at Northern Kentucky University.

Junior College

*Blake Drake - 2007 graduate.  Currently playing at Wabash Community College (IL).  He has signed to play at the University of Arkansas next season.

The 2009 Eastern Eagles baseball team finished the year with the second highest win total in school history with 34 victories and with its highest ranking ever, #2, in the state in the last regular season coaches poll.  The Eagles also won the 28^th district tournament for the fourth time in the last five years and put together a school record winning streak of 16 games during the season.  Eastern has won 30 or more games for five consecutive years. 

The Eagles had impressive wins during the season and went undefeated in the regular season against other 7^th region opponents.  Eastern beat the following ranked teams during the year:  #3 PRP 4-1, #5 Male 3-2, #8 Trinity 4-1, #8 St. X 7-5, #14 Western Hills 3-1, #17 Dunbar 10-0, #20 Manual 2-0, #21 Madison Central 10-4, #22 Ballard 8-7, #25 Christian County 3-2.   

Head Coach John Morris finished his 8^th season as head coach of the Eagles and has an overall record of 244-65 for a winning percentage of .790. 

After a loss to start the season to 6^th region champion Bullitt East, Eastern won 10 of its next 11 games, including wins over Arnold, FL and Escambia, FL on spring break.  Eastern won many other games over quality opponents during the year such as Butler, DeSales, North Bullitt, Somerset, Mercer County, Christian Academy, Woodford County, Campbellsville and Taylor County. 

Eastern beat KCD in the district tournament 16-2 and run ruled J’town 11-1 to claim the 28^th District Championship.  Eastern then opened the regional tournament with an 11-1 win over Fern Creek before losing 5-4 in the regional semi-finals to Ballard in a last inning heartbreaker. 

Eastern’s pitching staff again led the way in ’09.  Chris Toombs posted 10 wins, Ben Lady eight wins, Tyler Dunaway six wins, Spencer Drake five wins and Kyle Cornett two wins.  Lady and Drake led the team in ERA at 1.13 and 1.18, respectively while Drake threw a no-hitter against East Jessamine.  Dunaway had wins over PRP, Trinity and Manual, Cornett over Male and Ballard, Toombs over St. X and Christian County and Lady over Western Hills, Dunbar and DeSales.
