    HOPE YOU HAD FUN!

Well, the ANGELS ended an excellent year by beating out the Diamondbacks and being the best team in the league! I hope you all had fun and will come back to play Little League baseball or softball again next year!

    Team Picture is here! Dissappointed?

(front row - left to right) Monique, Taylor
(2nd row - left to right) Regan, Trystan, Claire, Gabrielle, Brooke
(3rd row - left to right) Kimberly, Courtney, Marta
(4th row - left to right) Coach Mark, Coach Dale, Caoch Adam
(Missing are Hannah, Kyairah, Lainey, and Maddie)

Well the team picture has arrived but has frankly left us a little dissappointed. These are some of the things we noticed.
*The girls are not centered evenly.
*In the top left of the picture it is a little cut off but there was a fairly big white spot.
*They chopped off quite a bit of Regan's leg.
*It seems like you can see right through Claire's leg and also Brooke's. They also messed up Taylor's leg and a little bit of Monique's sock.
*Kimberly and Marta's legs have grass covering their legs.
*It looks like Coach Adam is floating in the air over the grass.
*And we were also missing Hannah, Kyairah, Lainey, and Maddie

What do you think? Please send your comments to edllangels@hotmail.com.

    Angels Defeat Roadrunner 18-5

Coach Mark was all alone on this game since Coach Dale and Coach Adam could not make the game but was able to get some volunteers to come through and help out. Big Thanks to the Hartman's as they helped out before AND after the game to help with field duty. Also, Pete Korsan was going to help out coaching but when we didn't have an umpire Pete went ahead and took the job. Other thanks to Monique's brother, who helped out as first base coach, Rochelle Williams, who helped with the pitching machine, and Tracy Coffing, who helped as dugout organizer.

With the temperature in the 90's it was obvious the girls were very hot. (There will be a special little suprise for the girls on the last game. Can you guess what it will be?) The ANGELS did a good job hitting as they went .757. Hannah, Kimberly, Lainey, Courtney, Trystan, and Marta all got hits every time at bat. Kyairah has started to really hit better in these past two games. You can tell that she has been going to the batting cage.
*Kimberly knocked out 2 more home runs bringing her up to a total of 17 home runs this year. She also hit 2 doubles.
*Courtney also was showing off her power as she knocked out a homerun and a triple.
*Lainey was very consistent with her hitting. She hit 3 doubles.
*Marta bounced back from a tough game on Saturday to go 3-3.

    (Comments by Coach Mark)

    EXCELLENT SEASON TAYLOR!!!

Congratulations to Taylor for an excellent season! She has improved tremendously since the beginning of the year. Her hitting improved so much and towards the end of the year she was smacking it out to the outfield and getting on base a ton. We are going to miss Taylor for our final two games because she will be out of town. Thank you so much Taylor. Hope you had a lot of fun!

Tough Game against Diamondbacks - Game 17

After a long 12 day stretch with no games and only one practice, the ANGELS had a little trouble starting off the game. Our hitting and fielding was a little off and the girls were getting frustrated. After a couple innings we decided to just not worry about the game and just out there and have fun. And sure enough as soon as we stopped worrying about the game the girls started to hit better and make a lot more plays. However the ANGELS could not quite come from behind to beat the Diamondbacks. The final score was 17-11 in favor of the Diamondbacks. The ANGELS played quite well despite the 12 day break. The Diamondbacks were coming fresh off a game a couple days ago.

The ANGELS made a total of 9 outs.
*Trystan picked up the ball at second and beat out the girl to second for the force out.
*Kim fielded a groundball down the first base line and quickly applied the tag to the runner for the final out of the first inning.
*Maddie also fielded a ground ball at second and tagged the runner out.
*Kim scooped up a ball at shortstop and fired it over to Hannah for the last out of the 4th innin.
*Kim,Courtney, and Hannah got a couple outs with eachother at first base and pitcher.
*Kim went flying down to chase a ball at pitcher, scooped up a ball while running and tagged out the runner.
*Gabrielle did awesome by stopping a ball at 2nd base and throwing it to Kim at first for the final out of the 6th inning.

    offensively-
*Claire, Kim, Maddie, Monique, and Gabrielle hit every time up at bat.
*Kim continued to show she is a threat at bat as she blasted 2 more home runs to bring her to a 15 home runs for the season.
*Maddie also belted a home run at her first at bat.
*Gabrielle made an awesome slide into second base to try to beat out the force out but was called out. To us, it looked like she made it. Great try Gabrielle.

This loss snapped the ANGELS 13-game winning streak. However, the ANGELS will be ready to play against the Diamondbacks one more time. Our next game is Tuesday, June 3rd @ 5:30 P.M.

    BatAction Hitting Trainer

BatActionKim2WOOWHOOO!! I just got in my new BatAction hitting trainer by Diamond Sports. I can't wait to set this up at practice for you all to try out. If you have as much fun as Kim did hitting with it then we are going to be one happy team. smile It basically allows you to use a Hitting Stick automatically. I plan on having a team streak hitting competition to see who can hit the most clean hits in a row. This months winner will win their own softball to take home.

Check out the video that I uploaded here. I made a short video of Kimberly hitting on the BatAction to give you a feel for how much fun this is going to be for all. You get instant feedback by watching the way the hitstick travels... if it woobles then it wasn't a clean hit.

    Practice on Memorial Weekend

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I used the new MessageCast system for calling everyone up about the practice and almost had to use it to cancel. We thought for a little while there that the weather was going to be real nasty on us in the afternoon but it turned out to not be too terribly bad.

The only bad news was the rainy weather caused the power circuit for our pitching machine to go out for both the Rookie baseball and softball fields. We weren't able to do much for batting practice.

We did go over some new base running skills though. The girls got really good at doing the Step-Over-Base-Break on a pitch going hard for three strides skill. It paid off big for us in the last game as two of our girls made it safe to the next base only because of the momentum they got going based on this drill.

We did a high pop contest to practice the hand-eye coordination and reward those who caught the ball by backing them up about 5 yards each time. The people who missed would sit out and cheer on the girls still in the game. We had a tie for top pop up with Kim, Courtney and Maddie. All the girls are doing 100% better in this area as well as being aggressive on the ground balls to be quick for throwing the ball to first. Thanks to the other girls too for making it fun with Claire, Marta, Lainey and Brooke!

Our next game won't be until Sat against the Diamondbacks. That will make it almost two weeks without a game so make sure to get out and throw the ball around for a few minutes each day to keep your arm ready for the big game.

    MessageCast

There is a cool new feature that I just subscribed to on our website called MessageCast that I will be using this week.

It will allow me to get information out to the team much more easily than ever before plus I can get feedback over the phone. Rob from eTeamz support sent me a sample MessageCast so I could hear the quality of the voice so I recorded it off my answering machine for you. You can expect the same synthesized voice which in effect reads the typed message that I want to send out to the team. It sounds much better than I thought it would. This will be a big help and time saver for us.

    Game 16 vs Petroglyph 23-10

    g16-Ky3.jpg
    Kyairah celebrates a hit!
The ANGELS win 23-10 as they continue their blistering hitting display. All players hit safely in this game for a total of 32 hits with a .865 team batting average. Trystan, Maddie, Lainey, Kim, Hannah, and Courtney went the distance on the bases for a total of nine home runs between them. (See Game Stats)

The weather took a turn for the worse as the winds started to really beginning to gust in the second half of the game. The girls had several outstanding plays that resulted in put outs at first base. We tried a couple of new defensive plays that didn't pan out so well as twice a double play to the second base wasn't ready to be executed. Over all the girls defensively looked great then not so great as we were caught not knowing where to throw the ball after some pretty impressive stops by the infielders. Courney and Kim teamed up for some great combinations for put outs to first base.

Our base running wasn't too bad. Marta was very attentive while see was on base to always make a break for the next base after a pitch. Hannah made it to second safely by the skin of her teeth because she did so well breaking off first base after the ball was hit. Lainey is so fast that she accidentally over ran second and was tagged for a close call out after racing down the base path to beat the throw. The fans got into the game before the weather hit by posing for a "wave" cheer ;) (See Game Photos)

    Game 15 vs. Roadrunner 20-9

    Brooke ready to break

The Angels continue their winning ways as the team notches another win with another display of batting power that produced several more homeruns and lots of fun watching the girls power around the bases. (See Game Photos)

    Some of the most memorable moments were;
    * a hit that Trystan pounded out to the outfield and was racing around the bases like a cheetah. She went so fast that she passed Marta at second on her way to a potential triple! The rules do not allow a base runner to pass a runner in front of them on the base path so Trystan was ruled out. The Roadrunners alertly got a unique double play by then tagging out Marta who was caught off second base. Good heads up play by the visitors.
    * Trystan playing first for the first time this season showed she was ready. She teamed up Kimberly who made an excellent backup play from center field position and threw out the runner at first base. Trystan nabbed the one hopper with such ease.
    * Kimberly alertly tagged out the runner going to third base and then threw over to first base just missing a double play.
    * The team again was awesome at the plate with a .829 team batting average. Lainey, Gabrielle, Hannah, Kimberly, Maddie, Monique, Taylor and Trystan all hit each time up to the plate today. Way to go girls! (See Game Stats)

    * Kim was on power streak today and bashed out three homeruns. She raised her slugging percentage to 2.048 which is more than a double per at bat. The other season team batting leaders are Hannah .842; Claire .833; Monique .763; Brooke .744; Maddie .743 (See Season Stats)

Thanks to the Rochelle for stepping up to fill in for pitching duty today as it wasn't her turn and to our other volunteer parents Manuel, Phil, Pete, Karen, Lisa and Antoinette.

A real special thank-you today to our scorekeepers Lisa and Antoinette. Did you know every time we are the home team we are responsible for keeping the official score? They both are working hard at these games because the other tracks the score in our team scorebook simultaneously for our records. Thanks ladies!

This is the only time this season where we had someone actually sliding and we were lucky enough to catch it on the video camera. Here is a short video clip of the first slide. Kimberly was on third base and the ball was hit to the pitcher. Kimberly had an all out foot race with the pitcher for home and at the end Kimberly goes down for the slide before the screaming ANGELS fans.

Best Game of the Year to Defeat Diamondbacks! 24-9

    g13-Trys.jpg
    Trystan gets a GRAND SLAM
The ANGELS played absolutely outstanding as they were able to beat the toughest teams in the league, the Diamondbacks, by a score of 24-9. The ANGELS were able to hit the ball great and play excellent defense! This was by far the funnest game to watch as the girls played awesome! There are so many highlights this game! Among them are some of new team records and firsts including TWO grand slams, our first double play, a record high 12 defensive plays for put outs, and an amazing record of 35 hits in the game! See Game Stats

    Defensively

*Play of the Game goes to Courtney's outstanding play in the first inning! She caught a pop fly and quickly ran over to 3rd base to get another runner out to make our first double play of the season!
*Courtney also later caught another pop fly over at shortstop!
*Trystan fielded a ball behind second base and chased down the runner going to third base to get the out just in time!
*Kimberly fielded a sharp hit grounder at first and stepped on first base for the last out of the inning!
*Monique stopped a ball at second and was able to make a quick tag on the runner for the out.
*Hannah stopped a grounder at first and tagged the base for another out.
*Hannah also fielded a grounder at shortstop and made a quick tag to the runner for another out!
*Lainey stopped a grounder at first and was able to touch first base just before the runner got there.
*Kim fielded a grounder at pitcher and made a hard throw to Lainey at first to get the last out of the fifth inning.
*Courtney scooped up a grounder at shortstop and just barely made the tag to the runner for another out!
*Taylor and Regan teamed up for a great outfield as they chased down every ball and threw the ball to second for a chance at many different outs.
*Maddie stopped a hard hit grounder that was going to be heading deep in the outfield and managed to keep the girl to a single!
*Marta almost made a catch at catcher as she turned around when the foul ball was coming down. It looked pretty cool!
*Brooke did an awesome job of stopping numerous balls hit to her!

    Offensively

*Every single girl got a hit as the team hit a team record of 35 hits in the game!
*By far, the Most Valuable Player for batting goes to Trystan! She hit her FIRST home run today which just happened to be a GRAND SLAM! She also hit a double and a triple in the game!
*Kimberly also hit very well today hitting the second of two GRAND SLAMS and a double as she went 4-4!
*Lainey hit all 4 times at bat including a hard rip down the left side of the field that resulted in a triple!
*Maddie should have recieved a S P E E D I N G ticket as she raced down to first base to beat out 2 tags by the first baseman!
*Kyairah got out of her slump as she went 2-3 today with 2 runs!
*6 girls got a hit at every single at bat- Kim, Lainey, Monique, Courtney, Maddie, and Marta!
*The ANGELS took full advantage of the unlimited runs rule in the 6th inning as they scored 8 runs, 11 hits, and went through the entire line up to have Regan hit twice in the same inning!

    Injuries
*Kyairah had a ball hit her in the arm as she played catcher. She iced it down and was ready to play immediately.
*Marta's hair got stuck in the velcro in her hat as we tried to take it off. Sadly we had to yank out a few strands of hair to get the hat off but she stuck it out and did a great job at catcher

Overall the ANGELS did a phenomenal job! Congrats Girls!

Once again a HUGE THANKS to every parent who helped out today. We were a little short on coaches and some parents stepped up to volunteer and were a huge help!
-Phil volunteered to help coach today. He helped first base coach and also stuck around to help drag the field. He was a huge help.
-MO helped by volunteering to ump.
-Laurie did a great job of getting all the girls ready to hit and keeping them in order.
-Jamie helped in the dugout and also helped drag the field in the end.
-Caleb once again did a great job as our bat-boy.
-Morgan continuously helps us out in the dugout playing with the girls and putting the catcher gear on them.
-Chris helped us out with the pitching machine.
-Lisa helped out by keeping score.
    -I hope I didn't forget anyone else.

You would not believe how much all of the coaches appreciate when parents help out. It makes it a lot easier for all of us. Especially with restoring the field at the end of the game. If any of you parents want to stick around at the end of the game for about 5 minutes to help drag the field it really makes it go faster. This game we had Phil and Jamie help out and we finished the field very fast. Thanks again to all of the volunteers! We didn't have anyone taking photos so we used existing photos for Trystan batting. :(

What a game! The girls went out of this world today on offense with their hitting as every girl got a hit tonight. They have achieved a new season high team batting average of 0.824 going 28 for 34. Way to go ANGELS! Game Stats here

    Other team highlights include;
    * Lainey got her first home run of the season.
    * Maddie also got all around the bases after hitting a triple with an overthrow
    * Kyairah beamed her famous beautiful smile after getting on after her base hit.
    * Check out this list of 8 girls that all hit safely every time up to the plate. Hannah, Claire, Brooke, Courtney, Monique, Maddie, Gabrielle and Trystan! This was an amazing display of hitting. Missing from this list for the first time is Kim...
    * Maddie and Claire ought to get arrested for not carrying a pilots license because they were simply FLYING around the bases today! :)
    * Regan wasn't feeling her best and was unable to catch today.

Kim's Consecutive Hits Streak Ends at 32

    g13-Kim2.jpg

Kimberly finally proved she was actually human by ending her hitting streak. It happened in today's game versus the Alameda Angels. She had gone all season long (12 games) getting a hit 32 consecutive times as she came to the plate hitting an amazing 1.000 Plus she had an equally astronomical slugging percentage of 2.000 which means she was averaging a double every time she came up to bat. An awesome accomplishment of not only hitting prowness but doing it with power. Tonight she was finally put out after hitting the ball down the line to the first baseman who touched the base making the force out. Very impressive hitting streak Kimberly lasting more than half the season!

I hope everybody had a wonderful time off from practice for Mother's Day this week. I look forward to hitting practice hard next Sunday at our NEW time of 4-6pm at the EDLL field 4.

We had an anonymous email with a photo attached. It is rumored to be somebody that is very tired from our hard practices with the ANGELS... who do you think it is? Post your answer here.

Game 12 vs Coronado Angels 12-6

    Rally Cheer time!
Another beautiful day at Eastdale as the ANGELS played the Coronado Angels for the second time. The Coronado team is doing much better but so are our girls as we ended up winning 12-6.

One of our more experienced players Hannah was missing for the game due to some other fun commitment.

    Some of the game highlights;
Regan was among our best hitters today going 2 for 2 along with the other perfect hitters Claire 3-3, Courtney2-2 and Kimberly 3-3.
Kyairah continues to work hard at getting her swing down and she is still keeping a great attitude as she gets closer to that ideal swing.

Volunteers as usual are so appreciated by the team as Phil performed triple duty as both our pitching machine feeder, team photographer and did our field duty. Christina the Team mom setup the schedule so I wonder if husband Phil somehow got on her wrong side that day?... just kidding. ;) Flo was our excellent plate ump, Gina was in Concession, Manuel as Dugout organizer and Dawn provided snacks. For some reason I messed up the settings on my camera so the majority of the photos taken were unusable. They were way overexposed which washed out all the color and images. Sorry about that Phil :( The ones that at least were somewhat viewable I posted in the photo album for this Game 12. Game Stats

We had our team photo taken tonight and I must say that I would recommend that we think about taking it again. (The green screen in the background will be superimposed with the Isotopes Ballpark in the final print.) However the way they posed the team I think was strange. It doesn't look very symetrical which makes for a pretty weird setup. What do you think? They will announce a make-up day on Monday I believe.

We also had several girls missing due to some other commitments, Kyairah, Hannah, Lainey, Maddie so it would be really nice to have the full team present.

I have gotten several requests about the organizational handout we use and make available to the Parents before each game. This is the same form we Coaches use plus provide to the Scorekeepers, Dugout Assistant as well as post in the dugout for the players. The coaches and girls can keep track of where they are in the batting order as well as where they should be playing next. I think it really helps the team stay focused. I have it uploaded here from Game 10 just in case you haven't seen it lately or are one of the ANGELS fans from out of town. You will see some coaches tips, game notes and we typically will include highlights and notes about the previous game also.

Fun Day at Isotopes Ball Field!

    IsotopesLogo
We have been missing our Triple A baseball in Albuquerque for two years now so it was GREAT to be able to have a special Eastdale Little League game day again. It was a fun time for all to go out on a Sunday afternoon to watch our own Albuquerque Isotopes play at home in the brand new stadium. It is a beautiful ballpark and we missed those of you that were not able to make it with us. None of us seemed to miss not going to practice today. :) The weather seemed to clear up about an hour before the game to make it a nice, sunny day. Kim, Courtney, Lainey, Brooke, Marta, and their families all showed up along with about 600 others from Eastdale Little League! We ran into Claire at the field too who had come with her family. We showed up with our $13 per person Eastdake special group ticket and were treated to all-you-can-eat hot dogs, chips, and coke for 90 minutes. We ate behind the left field fence where all the tables were. There was a home run real close to where we were sitting and a lucky girl caught it in the air with her glove on. We then moved to go sit down along the left field foul line as we watched a fun game with a ton of hits as the Albuquerque Isotopes beat the visiting Salt Lake City Stingers by a score of 14-12!
