  Welcome

The Hurricanes are a Select 2006 15U tournament team representing East Cobb Baseball. East Cobb Baseball Association founded in 1985, has had a winning tradition from the beginning of the program. Since that time, ECB has won 73 National Championships and was named the “Most Outstanding Youth Baseball Program in the Nation” by Baseball America magazine for the decade of the 90’s.

The main focus of the Hurricanes, and the entire East Cobb program, is player development & sportsmanship with an emphasis on making it to the next level – college, or professionally. The East Cobb Association has been instrumental in obtaining 425 college scholarships from a total of 101 different colleges for it's players since its inception.

The Hurricanes roster is comprised of players with above average talent for their age from several different Metropolitan Atlanta area High Schools. The Hurricanes take great pride in playing ,"extreme baseball" at the highest level for their age division.

The Hurricanes coaching staff and players are dedicated to excellence in all aspects of the game. The Hurricanes seek out the very best competition to compete with while playing in both 15U and 16U Perfect Game Show Case Events as well as USSSA, Triple Crown, AAU, BPA, Barrett-Fletcher, Pendleton Baseball and CABA events through-out the Southeastern United States. Canes finish as runner-up in Triple Crown Fall Classic

The Canes competed this past weekend in the Triple Crown Fall Classic at East Cobb Complex. After losing a tied game on Fri night in the bottom of the 7th 4-3 to the Cartersville Canes the EC Canes fought back by run ruling the West Cobb Sidewinders 12-0 and beating a very solid South Forsyth Longhorns 4-3 to end 2-1 in pool play to be the number two team in pool B. This set up a match between the number one seed in pool A the East Cobb Yankees who were 3-0 in pool A. The Canes were more than ready to make it to the Championship by over powering the EC Yankees 11-4! The Canes hit the ball very well behind great pitching and catching to make the ship. One of the Yankees staff stated the Canes hit the ball harder than any team they had faced all year. They SAY some times you get what you want and guess who the other team in the ship was, you got it, the Cartersville Canes. This was a good thing however as the EC Canes wanted another shot at the Cartersville Canes.

The pool B was diffently the strongest pool with the top two pool A teams both getting beat 12-4 and 11-4 by the top to pool B teams. The Championship game was another great match-up ending in a 3-3 tie after 7 innings. Top of the eighth the EC Canes could not score and the Catersville Canes got their shot. The EC Canes had two outs with a runner in scoring position when an over throw allowed the runner to score giving the Cartersville Canes the victory. This was a great game! The Canes will be competiting next weekend in the West Douglas Baseball's October Fest High School Tournament. The field consists of 3 18U, 1 17U, 3 16U and 3 15U teams. The Canes will face one 18U, one 16U and one 15U team in the event. Like extreme baseball? Come on out and support the Canes!

Canes compete in first Perfect Game event going 1-3 against 16U-18U players!

The Canes got a taste of things to come over the weekend as they played in their first Perfect Game event for the new squad. All in all the team did quit well considering the teams the Canes played against were made up of 16-17-18 yr olds. The Canes were in three of four games with a real chance to get the victory. In game one the Canes beat the solid 16U Charlotte Heat 4-2. In game two the Canes faced another EC team the 16U EC Titans who lost to the Charlotte Heat and had a real chance to win but in the end lost 6-3. In game three the Canes faced the 17U Charlotte Megastars losing 10-2 with the Stars hitting the ball well throughout the entire game. In game four the Canes faced the SC Upstate Express who had just beat the 16U EC Astros and played very well losing 6-2 in a closer game than the score reflected. Coach George wanted to use this event to see how the new Canes stacked up against real competition. Coach George tried different players in several positions as well as wanting to see how the younger Canes handled the pressure of hitting older pitchers. The pitching the Canes seen over the weekend is the same type they will all see next Spring on their HS teams. The 17-18 yr old pitchers have much better command with big breaking balls that most 14-15 yr old pitchers have not yet developed. Coach George also wanted to see how much team speed he had playing very aggressive on the bases. All in all the coaching staff were happy with the results of the tournament seeing a few areas where the teams needs to improve. Players David Rosado and Kevin Chia not playing this fall came out to support the Canes. Both Rosado and Chia will join the Canes next May.

In game one against the 16U Charlotte Heat, Scott McNally started on the hill looking very good. McNally worked four innings allowing only 3 hits with no earned runs. Taylor Buckles came on to work innings 5 and 6 allowing three hits with no earned runs as well. Rico "the rock" Smith closed getting the save allowing 2 hits with no earned runs. Jordan Airich and Dustin Kimbery shared catching duties doing a great job keeping the Heat from advancing allowing only two stolen bases and one passed ball over seven innings.

The Canes offense was slow to find their rhythm against the Heats pitcher who worked 6 innings before retiring from the mound. The Canes managed 5 hits over the seven innings. Will Maxwell hit a single & reached on balls. Christian Datoc hit a single and a 1-3 RBI putout scoring one run. Derrick Thomas hit a single and was put on base once scoring one run. Rico Smith hit a RBI fielder choice and reached on balls. Avery Miller hit a RBI single and another 2 RBI single. Corbin Blakey was HBP and scored one run. Scott McNally reached on balls. Tylor Buckles reached on balls with Will "Cheese" Smalls coming in to run for Buckles to score.

In game two the Canes faced the 16U East Cobb Titans (the Titans are ranked as the number two 16U EC team and would go on to the tournament championship finishing second to the 17U Astros). The Titans had just lost in a close game with the Heat. Ron Frost started for the Canes working three innings. Frost was solid with 2 hits, 1 K and 1 walk over the three innings picking off a runner at 2nd base allowing two earned runs. Buckles worked with Frost behind the plate keeping the ball at the plate throwing out a runner attempting to steal third base. Evan Norsworthy came in working the fourth inning allowing 2 hits with 2 walks with one earned run. Eric Davis came in working innings five thru seven with Kimberley working behind the plate. Davis allowed 5 hits with 1 walk and one earned run. Kimberley threw out two runners attempting to steal second base!

The offense was again a little slow to get rolling. Over the 7 innings the Canes managed 5 hits. Thomas was HBP and would score one run on one stolen base. Smith hit a big RBI double and reached on balls. Miller hit a single. Kimberley hit a single scoring on one stolen base. Airich reached after being HBP. Davis also hit a big RBI standup double scoring on the hit after McNally hit a RBI single.

In game three the Canes faced a strong Charlotte Megastars. Thomas started for the Canes looking very good the 1st inning allowing only one hit. In the second innings three walks loaded the bases with no outs and a miss played bunt allowed the Stars to get on the board 1st. Buckles started behind the plate. Conner Deebel came in working innings 3-5 allowing 5 hits with four earned runs. Kimberley worked behind the plate with Deebel.

The Canes offense just could not find the groove getting only three hits. The Stars pitchers were very effective changing from high 80's heat to BIG BREAKING BALLS not usually seen by the 14-15 old Canes (this is another thing the Canes players will see in the spring with the older HS players). Maxwell hit a single and a big 2 RBI single to scoring the only two runs the Canes would get. Datoc provided a great sac bunt and reached on balls. Buckles hit a single, Smalls came in to run and stole one base. Norsworthy reached on balls scoring on Maxwell's hit. Blakey also provided a sac bunt advancing Norsworhty to scoring position. Smith reached on an error on a hard hit ball down the third base line scoring one run.

In game four the Canes faced what they felt was the best team seen in the tournament the Upstate Express from SC. This was a very close game with the Canes losing 6-2. The staff felt good knowing the younger Canes were in the game up to the end. McNally again started on the hill looking very good working three innings allowing only 1 hit, 1 K and 2 walks with one earned run (over 9 innings work this season McNally's ERA is .78)! Buckles and Kimberley both did a good job behind the plate with Kimberley throwing out one runner attempting to steal second. Tyler Howard came in working the finial four innings. Howard throws a nasty sidearm dirt ball. The Express hitters were sometimes in the dirt trying to golf it out! Howard is very effective when he keeps the ball down. Howard allowed 5 hits with 1 K and 3 walks over the 4 innings he worked.

The offense managed 5 hits with Austin hitting a single having to come out of the game with a sore toe, Maxwell came in the run for Austin. Maxwell remained in the game hitting a RBI single. Smalls reached twice on fielders choice and hit a nice single throw the hole at second. Smith hit a single. Howard hit a single over the third baseman.

The Canes will work over the next couple weeks to correct the areas needing improvement. The Canes are scheduled to play in the Triple Crown Fall Classic as ECC Sep 30 - Oct 2.

If you like extreme baseball come on out and support the Canes!
