BRAVES SQUANDER ANOTHER GAME VS. 13U ASTROS IN 3RD CABA GAME
It certainly wasn't pretty as the Braves squandered another game verses the 13U Astros, this time in the third round of the CABA Georgia State Championship at ECB. After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, things began to go poorly for the Braves as the 13U Astros put 14 runs on the scoreboard across the first two frames to take a 14-4 lead into the third inning. The positive to be found in it all was that we battled back across the final two frames to score 6 runs and make the score respectable at 14-10. But, given the length of time it took to get through the first two innings, the game ended after our at-bat in the top of the fourth as time expired.

Offensively, the Braves continued to out-hit our opponents as we notched 9 hits compared to the Astros 7 hits. We manufactured our first run in the top of the first inning on three walks, a dropped third strike, and a balk by the Astros' pitcher. What appeared at that point to be a long day for the Astros pitching staff turned into a sloppy start for the Astros that simply migrated across the diamond to the Braves. After hitting our first 2 batters in the second inning, #5 Hunter Swilling connected on a 2-RBI HOME RUN over the left field wall that temporarily sparked the Braves offense. Hunter's hit was followed by a DOUBLE off the bat of #33 Stephen Wrenn and a single by #10 John Davis, but both runners were stranded as the Astros found their way out of the inning. In the top of the third inning, the Braves recorded 2 quick outs and then proceeded to send 8 more batters to the plate, scoring 5 runs off 4 hits and 4 walks. In the inning, #7 Tyler Weyenberg and #2 Sam Ayers recorded singles and #5 Hunter Swilling and #33 Stephen Wrenn recorded DOUBLES to spark the Braves' scoring attack. But, we ended up leaving the bases loaded and missed an opportunity to get back into the game. Our final at-bat in the fourth inning yielded 1 more run on 2 hits, a single by #11 CJ Brazil and a 1-RBI DOUBLE by #7 Tyler Weyenberg. Weyenberg ended up going 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's scored for the Braves.

Defensively, it was simply "one of those days" for the Braves. Our 4-man pitching staff gave up 6 earned runs on 7 hits, 8 walks, and 1 hit batsman. The Braves defense committed 3 errors and was forced into "infield in" situations that enabled the Astros to record several infield hits. The bright spots included a 4-6-3 double play to end the first inning and a foiled bases loaded, suicide squeeze attempt in the second inning to cap the Astros scoring at 14 runs.
