BRAVES DROP FIRST ELITE WORLD SERIES GAME TO MAC-N-SEITZ
The Braves opened the USSSA Elite 32 World Series with a disappointing 7-4 loss to the Mac-N-Seitz Indians from Stilwell, Kansas. Our intensity level was high through all seven innings on Field 26 of the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex as we outhit the Indians 9-7. But, 5 critical defensive errors proved to be the difference in the game as our blunders enabled 4 unearned runs to power the Indians to victory.

Offensively, #3 Hunter Swilling led-off the bottom of the first inning with a slicing DOUBLE to the left field corner to set the tone for the Braves hitting attack. But, two batters later, #22 Jon Jon Banks single through the middle did not score Swilling from second because he was picked off by the Indians' pitcher prior to Banks' at-bat. So, the first inning ended with two Braves' baserunners with no runs scored. After the Indians put 3 runs on the board in the top of the second inning on 3 hits and a passed ball, the Braves responded in the bottom half with 3 hits of our own and 2 runs scored. #8 Patrick Schultz led-off the second inning with a first pitch jack to the left field gap for a DOUBLE. #2 Sam Ayers followed with a first pitch, line-drive single to right field that moved Schultz to third base. Then, #16 Nathaniel Maggio stroked a hit-and-run RBI-single to right field that scored Schultz and moved Ayers to third base. Ayers then scored on a passed ball for the Braves second run. In the bottom of the third inning, the Braves tied the game at 3-3 when #3 Hunter Swilling stroked his second lead-off DOUBLE, this time into the right field corner. He then advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly to deep right field of the bat of #10 John Davis. #22 Jon Jon Banks then shot another single through the middle but was left stranded on first base as the third inning came to close. The fourth inning turned out to be the key inning in the game, and unfortunately it was not positive for the Braves as the Indians recorded 4 runs on just two hits with 4 hit batsman. To add insult to injury, the Braves could only muster 2 more hits and 1 more run across the final four innings. #8 Patrick Schultz launched a DOUBLE to the right field gap in the sixth inning and later scored on an RBI-walk by pinch hitter #19 Ryan Murphy. And, #10 John Davis blasted a single through the middle in the seventh inning but was left stranded at second base as the game came to an end.

Defensively, the Braves gave the game away with 5 errors, 4 hit batsman, and 1 passed ball. On the hill, #44 Jordan Brown threw 2 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with 1 strike out. #5 Todd Dial relieved Brown in the third inning. Dial also threw 2 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits, 1 walk, and 3 hit batsman with 1 strike out. #3 Hunter Swilling relieved Dial in the fifth inning. Swilling also pitched 2 innings and gave up 0 earned runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and 1 hit batsman with 1 strike out. Finally, #16 Nathaniel Maggio closed the seventh inning, giving up 0 earned runs on 0 hits and 0 walks with 1 strike out.
