Chris Snusz * Currently an Associate Scout for the Boston Red Sox, as well as operating all of the East Coast Grays Select Teams as both the catching instructor and main contact for college and pro scouts. Coach Snusz played professionally as a catcher for 11 years with the Phillies, Reds, Expos, Indians, Yankees and Pirates organizations; having played as high as the AAA level. Over his career he threw out 32% of baserunners attempting to steal and now passes on his knowledge of the position to each catcher within the organization. He was also a teammate of both Coach Vandemark (Clearwater Phillies '97) and Coach Caruso (Altoona Curve '03).
Joe Caruso * Currently Associate Scout for the Tampa Bay Rays and the organizations hitting instructor. He will also be heading up the Grays 18u team at both Mississippi State and Coastal Carolina this summer. Coach Caruso played professionally for 8 years with the Royals and Pirates organization having reached the AAA level. While playing his college ball at Alabama, Joe once held the record for hits in the College World Series. Before coming on the Grays staff, he was the recruiting coordinator at Meridian Community College in Jackson, MS. Coach Snusz on Caruso, " Joe is one of the most dedicated and passionate hitting instructors I have ever been around. He knows the game as good as anyone and the kids go nuts over the endless amount of hitting instruction they get with him." Friday, April 3
John Vandemark * Currently the pitching coach for the 17u teams as well as the head coach of the Grays 12u team out of Buffalo, NY. Coach Vandy pitched professionally for a total of 13 years with the Astros, Mariners, and Phillies organizations and was a teammate of Coach Snusz while with the Phillies. Coach Snusz on Vandemark, "Vandy brings a lot of experience to the table and now gives all our pitchers training information on how to strengthen and protect their arms as well as finding them ways to increase velocity". John is also a national certified pitching instructor with the National Pitching Association. Monday, May 4
Kevin Berry * Will make his debut with the Grays at East Cobb for the 17u tournament. Coach Berry played professionally with the Cincinnati Reds organization after playing at LSU. He has also coached at the college level at Northwestern State University, University of Alabam, and Okaloosa-Walton Community College. Most recently, Coach Berry was the head coach of Niceville High School (FL) and over the last 3 years seen 11 of his players earn college scholarships with 3 of them going in the draft (most notable is Atlanta's 1st round pick- Brett DeVall). Coach Snusz on having Coach Berry as a staff member, "we are very excited to have Kevin coaching our players. He has the same passion for teaching that coach caruso, vandy and myself all share togeather. To be able to tell a player that he will be working with a former pro who also coached in the SEC is pretty special." |
