Verse of the Month:

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"

Ephesians 6: 13-17

This verse simply reminds me of being a catcher.. I would not feel safe without my equipment so therefore i have a strong trust in what i wear to protect myself... In other words, understand that HE is your protection from any harm that comes in your path. #TRUTH

PLAYER REPORTS : WWBA 18U MEMORIAL DAY

1 - Taylor King  2013 - rhp  Durham, NC  back on the mound for 1st time since wrist injury in hs, compact delivery with downward angle on the ball, breaking pitch looked sharp at times, has pitched very well the last 2 years so will reevaluate at Radford univ in 2 weeks, also banged out 4 hits
2 - Lawson Vassar  2013 - rhp  Little Rock, AR  31 ACT, velocity was 88-90 on Friday night, hides ball and good use of legs in delivery, 3/4 delivery, FB lot of late life and movement, very solid command of both sides of plate, showed + changeup, great size and can simply pitch anywhere in the country
5 - Adam Jelovic  2013 - rhp/1b  Tn/Country, MO  27 ACT, deceptive delivery, velo 86-88, athletic build, hides ball and at times over rotates his hips and front shoulder, has potential to be a low 90s with a couple tweaks to maintain direction, live arm, breaking ball very sharp, stays down in zone, has some pop in bat
7 - Tiger Smith  2012 - rhp  Dallas, TX  IVY type grades, 1st two innings lights out at 87-89, good command of both sides of the plate, CB is hard and late, in 3rd inning arm started to drag and location was up resulting in walks, took a few batters but figured out arm slot and got back in the zone to get outs
8 - Vincent Miniet  2013 - c/inf  Tampa, FL  23 ACT, 3.6 GPA, projecting as #2 hitter in college, very balanced with good eye at plate, hit .460 @ jesuit as their leadoff hitter plays everywhere, played 2b at Jesuit and also catches for us, strong arm with carry with very good hands, gets better each time we see him
9 - Tanner Zant  2013 - c  Niceville, FL  stong build, and shows strength in his swing, compact swing with good extension out in front, gap to gap hitter, playable arm behind the plate but has tendency to stand up on throws, will have more time to work with him to polish up, goes out to get ball for receiving
10 - Will Mullen       2012 - util  Niceville, FL  very consistent player, runs well 6.85 and can play both inf and OF, balanced and quiet at the plate, stays up the middle in his approach and will occasionally show gap power, consistent fielder, he's a worker and pushes everyone, strong academics as well.
11-Ricky Caldevilla  2014 - of/1b  Tampa, FL  another future impact guy at Jesuit, over 6 feet with very quick hands, has a little bit of a head tilt and very upright in stance and swing, once he learns how to use his lower half he will launch due to current leverage he gets, shows strong arm in the outfield as well
13 -  Bucky Locke  2012 - rhp  Baker, FL  88-91, pro prospect up to 92 last summer, attended East Coast Pro, very loose arm that generates a lot of whip out in front, very businesslike on the mound, pounded ball inside to RHH, arm angle mid 3/4 with late life on all his pitches, should go in the draft
15 -Daniel Portales  2013 - of/p  Tampa, FL  big fan of this kid, great size and still only 16, never takes off an inning and 100% all the time, shows plus arm in outfield, didn’t get to throw on the mound but already know he's capable of going over 90, nice swing with some serious pop in his bat, + instincts in OF
19 - Allen Hooker  2013 - of  Houston, TX  very athletic, 6.5 runner, plus arm in CF with a ton of carry, Switch Hitter - stonger from L side, ball jumps off barrell, showed ability to drive deep gaps, once loosens up a touch and stays in his legs he could be multi tool future pro prospect, + OF tools & plus arm
27 - Gabe Gunter  2012 - rhp  Cantnmnt, FL
velo 87-88, long and loose in delivery with a flow to it, pounded down in the zone, not afraid to come inside, offspeed sharp at times, good command of all his pitches, 3.8 gpa, 6'5 230 with a ton of mound presence.

32 -Max Beerman  2012 - rhp  Tampa, FL  once he learns to stay in his hitting zone and not chase he has a chance to be a big time HR guy, seen him bomb balls that only saw on occasion in pro ball, very balanced with stupid power from left side, improves each time on mound and should do well in Big East
36 - Blake Wiggins  2014 - ss/3b  Little Rock, AR  has been at a high level for a while now and he is still only a rising JR, has a ton of tools but puts a lot of pressure on himself and tries too hard at times, hes young though and once he learns to relax and trust his tools he'll be a legit pro prospect, all the tools are in place now
6 - Connor OBrien  2012 - rhp  Tampa, FL  NC State commit, loose arm, command, velo 87-90
26 -Leland Saile  2013 - OF Tampa, FL 24 ACT, 4.0 gpa, thick and strong, shows plus power in the bat multiple times over the weekend, very aggressive hitter and ball explodes off bat, great instincts and angles in the OF, has a cannon from RF, another kid going all out all the time, big time sleeping prospect
16 -Ryan McCullers  2013 -C Tampa, FL  going to be very good, already showing plus arm strength, he's aggressive and likes to go hunting for baserunners, body is strong and thick, had tendency to wind up on release, got him to relax both receiving and in transfer/release… was 1.84 in between innings, good bat

NEW YORK YANKEES HITTING COACH

"Kevin Long"

Pictured are Kevin Long with East Coast Grays hitting instructor, Joe Caruso.  Kevin and Joe worked camps in AZ and TN during the off season for Long.  While at the Memphis camp, over 25 players from the Grays were able to hit and be instructed by Kevin and Joe.  Terry Rooker, East Coast Grays father, was quoted in saying, "This was the best instructional experience I have ever seen.  Kevin and Joe were amazing together.  I am thankful for Kevin for taking the time to come to Memphis, but I am also thankful for Joe living in Memphis."  Terry has a 2013 son, Brent Rooker, who has been training under Joe for 8 years and Kevin for 2.  Brent is a 1B that has SEC schools and other D1 schools wanting Brent to play for them.  "I feel honored and blessed to be a part of East Coast Grays baseball, said Rooker. Terry is one of the many testimonies of Kevin and the Gray's organization and staff.  The Grays thank Kevin for all his hard work, and we have already committed Kevin for Memphis again next year.  He is an invaluable tool for the development of the Gray's staff and its players.

Player Websites Courtesy of SportsWorx

The East Coast Grays were recently contacted by SportsWorx to give all of their players the opportunity to have their own personal website.  The website is designed to allow players to update their information with the ability to upload their own videos directly on the site.  From what we have seen the site is designed for players to have direct access to college coaches; and parents to have information about the recruiting process from online articles about nutrition and training, to SAT/ACT online prep tests.  For more information, please email Coach Snusz, with the Subject : Player Website, at catchaprospect@yahoo.com.

MLB Draft Update:  A number of former Grays players have been having strong seasons and are putting themselves  in great positions for the upcoming June draft.  The last 2 years there have been 20 players drafted and this years group could make that number increase.

Some early players to watch this year:

HS: Lucas Sims, Jimmy Herget, Max Beerman, Joe Altieri, Daniel Sweet, Tim Yandel, Jacob Cronenworth, Nick Dawson, Luke Fernandes, Thomas Pannone

College: Cam Giannini, Brian Dixon, Joe Hudson, Andrew Delcolle, Cat Kendrick, Phil Pohl, John Tangherlini, Chris Guerrin, Ryan Roberts, Scott Whitehead

Keep up the good work and good luck this season!

Article written by BamaOnline about current organization hitting coach Joe Caruso

TRips: Catching up with Joe Caruso

A kid named Joe, whose self-confidence contradicts the humble-at-best surroundings that served as the backdrop for his childhood, leaves Pennsylvania for the University of Alabama, where he'll go on to win championships and a slew of individual honors.

The arrivals of Jim Wells and former UA assistant coach  Gaspard (pictured) in 1995 proved beneficial  to Caruso and his teammates.

Namath, right? Not this time.

Instead, we're talking Joe Caruso, the former Crimson Tide baseball star who chose UA back in 1994 because, well, there were no other choices.

In addition to being a part of College World Series teams in 1996 and 1997 Caruso earned first-team all-SEC and second-team all-america honors in 1997. He was named most valuable player of the 1996 SEC Tournament and was was selected to the CWS all-tournament team in 1997. In 2004, Caruso took his place on the All-Jim Wells team, as voted on by Alabama fans.

Off the field, Caruso was named to the SEC academic honor roll in 1996 and 1997. In addition to falling in love with a UA cheerleader, the girl he would later marry and with whom he's presently sharing the joys of parenthood, Caruso developed friendships that led to a spiritual foundation he continues to build upon.

After a professional career that included stops in the Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations, Caruso, 37, moved into coaching, with an emphasis on shaping the lives of young people.

BamaOnline.com recently caught up with Caruso, who has called the Memphis area home since 1999.

TRips: How are things these days?

Caruso: Life is good, family is good and God is good. I'm married with two boys, a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old. Everything is good.

 East Coast Grays Training

A strong focus for the Grays is player development.  While at our showcase events we will have seminars on hitting, pitching, catching, and baserunning.  Take a look inside the Grays training with some clips from hitting coach, Joe Caruso, while in WWBA 17U East Cobb Showcase.

The clips will highlight a Christ centered hitting style the Grays use for their hitting that's titled:
