Overview:

I'm extremely proud of how the team is progressing so far this season.  Doing so against competition that is fierce makes it that much better.  To advance out of our group at the highly visible MEAD/CUSA tournament is a huge credit to the team and a stepping stone that I hope fuels the drive of the individuals on the team.

Based on our two tournament performances this season and our first two Buckeye League games, my outlook on what we can accomplish this Fall season has been revised upward.

Congratulations again on a great start.

Concerning remaining tournaments
:

(More to come later on this category)

Concerning your time away from the team
:

Each of you should be working on your skills away from practice. This is where you as an individual have a chance to grow and bring back to the team "your personal progress."

Here are some suggestions for when you are on your own:

  - Doing all of your school work in a timely manner (sooner rather than later) to give me more time to relax, eating right-meals with family, getting 8 hours of sleep a night.

  - Spending time with your soccer ball dribbling, shooting, juggling.Trying new things with the ball, new moves, touches, playing one on one with a sibling, working on the weak foot.

  -
Fitness anyone??? Running on your own, sit-ups, pushups, stadium steps, etc.

You'll note not everyone gets the same playing time.  This team plays to win and the team comes first.  Always.  Keep in mind, o
ne way to increase your playing time by doing extra work like this between practices.

Concerning our league and Wednesday's game:

I've been trying to instill a game by game focus.  Our schedule is pretty brutal.  After our first league game, talk of winning the league and going undefeated was swirling up at Spindler Park.  For now, we will place those thoughts in the "dream" category but not necessarily in the "goal" category.  Let me explain...

...I would expect (as a goal) we continue to compete at a high level with our Buckeye Premier.  But this is a tough mix of teams.  If we finish in the top 3, it should be considered quite an achievement.

We will talk in training regarding specifics on how we will go about "getting it done."

GOOD START, STRONG FINISH
Our Eagles U14’s had a good start in the fall 2006, winning the girls U14-15 bracket at the NCAA Donato’s Soccer Classic 2006.  They kept the ball rolling with a strong semi-final finish winning a very difficult bracket at Mead/CUSA tournament Labor Day weekend, and finished 2nd in the Buckeye Premier League.

Spring 2007 proved successful for the U14s with a strong finish for the year in the Buckeye Premier League as well as a State Cup semi-final, Pacesetter Invitational championship and a Jarosi-Willis tourney championship.

Message from Coach Kessinger

Training will start back up in mid-February.  Please don’t sit around until then waiting for formal training to start.

Examples of what I would be doing to prepare for the spring season…Hitting the local gym to work on upper body and core exercises, running at least three times a week (25 to 40 minute runs), doing stairs at the local track or gym, other winter sports, sprints (i.e. 6-10 x 60 yds with a half mile warm up and warm down), and the mile for time (shooting for a 6 minute mile) or…5:30 mile for Jesse and Meredith!  And of course, when the weather agrees-getting the ball outside and working on your touch.  I remember many winters going to the basement with the ball when I was your age to juggle and work on foot skills.  Anytime I hit a ceiling panel…it was 10 push ups (and sometimes other punishment added in by mom and dad.J Don’t work by the lights!

You can also Google, “soccer training and fitness,” and get 34 pages of drills and activities if nothing above excites you!  Just do something so you don’t find yourself playing catch up to everyone else come mid-February.  Take some ownership in your own game and fitness and you’ll be better prepared to compete for a starting spot come spring…Yes, it’s wide opened and I’m looking for the girls who are fit, confident, intense, and ready to battle the other top teams in our age group!

WE will define goals when we get together again for our season.  And then we will work to attain the goals we set for ourselves.  Nothing worth while is ever achieved without preparation, hard work and determination.

You are an amazing group of girls and I’m excited to be your coach.  Please help yourself and your teammates out by taking care of your grades and staying fit!

I’ll be in touch.

JEFFERSON CUP 2008

The Eagles were hoping for some tough competition in the Elite Division at Jefferson Cup in Richmond, VA and were not disappointed. Eagles tied the first game 1-1 against Laurel United Premier (MD) and won their 2nd game 2-1 against Prince William Courage 92 Red (VA). Injuries took their toll and the girls just missed winning their bracket with a tough 1-0 loss in the third game against Twin County Crew (NJ) finishing 1-1-1.
