HOW IT ALL STARTED...
CHris Coon
Chris Coon

The Eager Beaver Football Club came to fruition when John Coon talked with his Uncle Harley about Centerville Pee-Wee Football.

Harley thought that it would be good to introduce football to the Beavercreek Youth. He wanted to see if they liked the game and to keep the children off the street. A meeting was advertised in 1971.

That first meeting was a success with over 90 parents in attendance. The decision was made to form the organization. The name Eager Beaver Football was selected because these boys were EAGER to play FOOTBALL for BEAVERCREEK HIGH SCHOOL.

The first equipment was then purchased from Jim Strong, Coach & President of the Miamisburg Wee-Vikes.

The orginal volunteers were Bob Shuttleworth, who took donations at the gate, Jim Shawley, treasurer - to handle the registration fee of $15.00, Jim Valentine as paramedic and later Vice President, Barbara Valentine, started a concession stand; Bob Workman, announcer and Debbie Phillips, cheerleading advisor.

The first season was played in 1972 with with a 5th & 6th grade team each with 45 players. The Cheerleaders started the season by making their own uniforms.

Ironically prior to the start of the season, Harley went on vacation and became ill. He spent three weeks in the hospital - when he returned the season was going full blast. There were so many people that made the program the success that it is today. "I wish I could remember each and every one" said Harley Coon.
