Certification Required for All Coaches

Mandatory Certification for All DYBL Coaches

In order that our coaches have a more positive impact on all of our players the Babe Ruth League, Inc., which we are affiliated with, has developed a mandatory course for improving the quality and knowledge of our managers and coaches. It is very important that youth coaches be properly trained to focus more on the child’s baseball and spftball experience and less on winning games. Babe Ruth League, Inc. has developed the Babe Ruth League/Ripken Baseball Coaching Certification Program. Under the program, ALL DYBL baseball/softball coaches, regardless of level, must complete the course BEFORE the beginning of the upcoming season. Successful completion of this course is required to coach in the program and be assigned a team.

The course is available now, so you have ample time to complete certification requirements prior to the DYBL season start. Coaches who complete the exam with a score of 80% or better will receive the Babe Ruth League/Ripken Baseball Coaching Certification. You will be able to print a certificate of completion and wallet card from the Web site. Each coach will be required to provide a copy of the certificate to the DYBL President (you can send via e-mail to and it can be done right from the web site when registering for the certification). Your name will be added to the coaches registry as having completed the course.

The Level One course is a lifetime certification, will take 2 to 3 hours of your time, and costs $19.95. The Level Two course is also a lifetime certification, will take 6 to 8 hours of your time, and costs $24.95. It is the coaches’ responsibility to pay the fee. You can order the online course from

Required background checks for managers and coaches

The Denbigh Youth Baseball League Executive Board has decided to conduct background checks on all applicants for the position of Team Manager or Team Coach. The reason for initiating such checks is our concern for the safety of each and every young person participating in the League. Both Babe Ruth and our insurance company recommend that youth leagues use background checks to help protect youth players.

In order to implement this background check system, you will need to log on to Protect Youth Sports website, and fill out the Application Form. The information you provide is not maintained by DYBL or a local site. When DYBL requests a background check on you, the information you provided will be used by the company to perform the check and obtain the results.

The criteria for disqualification and prohibition from serving as a Team Manager or Team Coach with DYBL is listed below.

Failure to complete the Background Check Authorization form or failure to provide accurate and complete information on the Application Form on the Protect Youth Sports website will cause you to be denied the opportunity to manage or coach a team in DYBL this season.

Questions concerning this program should be directed to “Moose” Spencer,
