DRYDEN vs. GROTON - 2/2/2007
Dryden High's Rex Hollenbeck and Anthony Jerome celebrated Senior Night with pin victories as the Purple Lions posted a 48-27 win over visiting Groton. Dryden coach Larry Hinkle praised the work ethic of both seniors. "Their goal is to improve daily and always do the very best that each can whenever they walk on the mat. Both have competed as varsity wrestlers for five years and both have really served as the glue of keeping the program going when things were not looking so good a couple of years ago. We are all going to miss them very much next year," he said. Hollenbeck pinned Brandon Wing at the 1:55 mark of the bout at 160 pounds which gave the Purple Lions (5-4 IAC, 6-12 overall) a 12-6 lead. The wrestling action began at 145 pounds. Jerome wrestled the next to last match at 135 pounds and he took 21 seconds to pin Victor Columbo. That match was the final of six contested bouts.

DRYDEN vs. ODESSA-MONTOUR - 01/31/2007
The Dryden wrestlers used the early momentum of two early forfeits and four pins to build a big lead and rolled to a 48-28 IAC wrestling win over visiting Odessa-Montour. "I told the kids right before the match that Odessa came to wrestle and to not take them lightly," said Dryden coach Larry Hinkle. "They did as I asked". Casey Marquis (103) and James Gleason (112) received forfeits as Dryden increased its advantage to 18-0. Anthony Jerome (130) and Levi Relyea (135) followed by each sticking their opponent in 35 seconds. The visitors narrowed the gap to 36-24 with two matches remaining, but senior Rex Hollenbeck sealed the Purple Lion victory at 160 pounds by pinning Jared Worwell at the 3:44 mark. Bryan Pyle (171) got the final Purple Lion points with a fall in 40 seconds. "If we were to give a coach's award this evening, it would go to Levi Relyea," said Hinkle. "Levi has been fighting a cold, but wanted to wrestle. As usual, he really came through for us. This 8th grader is really going to go places. We are always impressed with his performance." "Rex Hollenbeck looked the best that he has all year," Hinkle continued. "He was just putting one move after another to get his win. DRYDEN vs. LANSING - 11/29/2006
In an early IAC wrestling showdown between area teams with quality individual talent, Dryden came away with a 36-29 victory over Lansing Wednesday night. One of the key matches that went to the Purple Lions came at 140 pounds, where Anthony Jerome earned a 7-4 decision over Vernon Nabinger. That was a great match, Lansing coach Doug Dake said. Two seniors, and Jerome was up a couple weights. It was a tough match for Vernon to take, but it was well-wrestled and highly-anticipated. Lansing's Kyle Dake, last year's New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Division II runner-up at 103 pounds, earned an pin at 112 in 1:25. The Bobcats (1-1) also received a pin by Donald Krebs at 130, while Jon Glennon won by technical fall at 145. Dryden (1-0) got a match-opening pin from Tony Clarke at 215, a performance that was matched by Josh Scott at 125, Levi Relyea at 135, Rex Hollenbeck at 160 and Nick Wixon at 189. We didn't match up well to begin with, Dake said. We had kids with some really bright spots that got put in situations where they were inexperienced. Dryden, give them credit, they did a really nice job.
215 Tony Clarke (D) pinned CJ Griffin, 1:11
