Griffins: Summer Soccer Club - Ages 7-13: Dutchtown Summer 7v7 Soccer League

Sunday, March 9
Dutchtown Summer 7v7 Soccer League

 Dutchtown Summer Soccer Club

7v7 Soccer - SUMMER LEAGUE

What is the purpose of the evaluation today?
Coach Chambless and his assistants will have the players participate in drills and small games in order to evaluate their level of talent and athleticism.  The purpose is to place your child in a “training group” with children of “like” abilities.  For each player to get the most out of the Soccer Club activities, it is best that they train and play with other players that have similar ability level.
            Training Groups?
Each training group will consist of about 20 players.  Each group will be given a team name taken from Major League Soccer.  (For example: Houston Dynamo).  You child will meet 1 day a week for 7 weeks to train and play within their group.  Please follow the calendar to see what day and time your child’s group will meet. After today’s evaluation you will receive an email informing you of your child’s group and schedule.
What will happen at each weekly session?
To begin each session we will teach and practice various skills necessary to develop good soccer players.  We will spend approximately 45 minutes training.
Skills practiced will be:
·         Ball movement using various parts of the foot
·         Ball striking (passing, etc.)
·         Simple combination play
·         Some minor agility and physical training
After completing the training session the group will divide into TWO teams and play a game of 7v7 soccer.
How does the game work?
There will be 6 field players and 1 goalkeeper on each team.  We will use FULL-SIZE goals.  Every player will play in goal at least a couple of times during the season. The teams will compete for two 25-minute
halves.  Coach Chambless and his assistants will do some “minor” instructing on tactics and situational play, depending on the age group.  The focus will be on competing in a fun “learning” environment.  We will NOT keep score.

Why is it called Dutchtown Summer Soccer “Club“?
Coach Chambless’ desire with the “club” is to create a fun atmosphere where the players can train and learn soccer together without the pressure of winning the game or finishing 1st in the league.  Most of the players participate in leagues where they are able to get that level of accomplishment. However, many young established teams settle on their “best players” and begin playing with winning in mind and not developing players.  This club is designed to allow players to develop and work on their game over the summer, stress free. Coach Chambless is NOT speaking out against league play and playing to win.  In fact, he enjoys winning VERY much.  He just feels that players need a “break” from the stress of competition in order to develop.  The summer gives them that opportunity.
