What is the DCBA Rep Basketball Program?
In addition to operating our House League programs, the Durham City Basketball Association holds tryouts for our rep teams in each age group for those boys & girls interested in playing more competitive basketball. Our boys team is the Bulldogs and girls are the Chameleons. Last season we fielded 16 rep teams. Our Major Atom Bulldogs #2 captured the (D3) provincial silver, while the Bantam Bulldogs captured (D2) silver medal. Our teams that captured gold last year were the Midget Chameleons (D4), Major Midget Chameleons (D6), Midget Bulldogs #2 (D3) and Major Bantam Bulldogs #3 (D5). All teams practice twice per week for approximately 1.5-2hrs per session. The Bulldogs and Chameleons compete against other rep teams in the GTA. Players can also expect to play in local weekend tournaments leading up to the Ontario Provincial Championship Tournament at the conclusion of the season. The rep season operates from Sept - April/May.
Who should play Rep Basketball?
The Rep Program is for those girls and boys who love basketball. The teams tend to attract the better players but because a player's skill level changes significantly over the summer months, we suggest that if the rep program interests your son or daughter, they should tryout. If unsuccessful after your try-out, you are eligible to play in the House League program where you can continue to improve on your skills.
Who are the coaches and what is their philosophy?
The DCBA coaches will focus on your son or daughter's development first. Although our organization is only entering its 4th yr. fielding competitive teams, we have developed a reputation for having dedicated players and coaches. Our coaches will be trained by our Director of Development Ron Parfitt, who has spent 32 years building Pickering High School into one of the top programs in the country. To coach at this level, each of our coaches has completed their national coaching certification program & dcba certification program.
.Can I play Rep and House League?
The Novice, Atom & Major Atom divisions, may play both house league and rep. At this age the rep program has fewer games to allow for participation in both programs. For older players, the rep program has more games, tournaments and practices. We recommend the older players select to either play rep or house league. Your rep coach can explain this in more detail at the rep try-outs.
What does it cost to play on the Rep Team?
The fees for Rep basketball this year is $460. This cost includes home/away uniform, warm-up top, provincial cup tournament, DCBA tournament, team & individual photo, Basketball Ontario affiliation, admin fees, gym costs & banquet.
I am interested, when are tryouts?T
The Rep Season begins with try-outs in mid September. Each division has 2-3 tryouts. The tryout fee is $15 and includes a t-shirt
Interested in Coaching or helping coach a rep team?
There is always a need for coaches for the rep program. All of our coaches are trained through the National Coaching Certification program. If you would like to volunteer with our program please contact the DCBA line at 905-427-4253 or email info@durhamcritybasketball.ca.
